Chapter 250: Cultivator in the Apocalypse
As he stared at the phone on the bedside table, Xu Feng’s eyes brimmed with unspoken apologies. "I’m sorry," he whispered, his voice a faint echo in the room. The words were difficult to articulate on paper, but the sentiment weighed heavily on his heart. He was sorry for leaving, for not taking Xu Zeng’s place in this world, and for abandoning him in this life.
Tears welled in his eyes as he struggled with his conflicting emotions. In this strange world that should be familiar, he was a stranger to himself, torn between two lives and two versions of himself.
As the tears streamed down his cheeks, Xu Feng’s body seemed to react instinctively, moving energy through his meridians. It was almost as if his emotions had triggered an automatic response within him. Exhausted and drained from the day’s labor, he couldn’t help but take stock of his condition.
His hands, which had been roughened by hours of work in the greenhouse, felt different. His fingertips, previously smooth and unremarkable, now seemed to carry a subtle, almost invisible glow. It was a small yet distinct change, one that hinted at something extraordinary happening within his body.
With a newfound curiosity, Xu Feng turned his focus inward. He closed his eyes and concentrated, feeling the ebb and flow of energy within him. To his surprise, he discovered that everything inside him remained the same, from his internal organs to his bones.
Everything in his body in Donghua, was brought with him back to Dongmen. However, his cultivation had undergone a noticeable transformation. In just a single day...maybe half a day, it had grown significantly.
This revelation jolted him out of his self pity party. What was happening to him? What had caused this sudden boost in power and vitality? Questions raced through his mind as he contemplated the implications.
Also, how was his body different in both realms, but the inner workings of both bodies mirrored each other?
Sitting in a standard cross legged position, Xu Feng prepared to cultivate in earnest. First, he glanced at the nearby phone to check the time. Then, he closed his eyes, allowing his consciousness to delve deep into his core, where his energy resided.
The process of cultivation was a familiar one, something he had learned from the Xuan ancestor on the back mountains of Nanshan. It involved circulating energy through his meridians, refining it, and strengthening his body and abilities.
The green, vibrant energy coursed through his veins, following precise pathways and crossing his dantian with care. Looping in this predetermined path with confidence.
What was remarkable was that the labor he had undertaken in the greenhouse seemed to have consolidated the cultivation he had developed in the mountains. Not only that, but he had also advanced.
The rise in his power was unmistakable, though he lacked a clear understanding of the specific levels of cultivation in Dongzhou—he had no idea at all.
As he circulated his energy, Xu Feng marveled at the flourishing green energy that filled his mind’s eye. It was during this process that his attention was drawn to a cluster of lights emanating from a hidden corner of the room.
Curiosity piqued, he continued to cultivate while casting occasional glances toward the source of the lights. It wasn’t his place to investigate, and he should have left well enough alone. However, his curiosity got the better of him, and after a few minutes of contemplation, he allowed a portion of the small lights to enter his dantian.
In an instant, his power surged, and his vitality reached its peak. Xu Feng’s eyes fluttered open as he sat in stunned silence. "Crystal nuclei?" he muttered to himself, making a bold guess about the nature of these radiant lights.
Rising to his feet, he carefully examined the source of the lights. Tucked away in a hidden pocket of a sweatshirt, he found several multi colored crystals, each emitting a cold, ethereal glow.
"This is strange," Xu Feng mumbled, his brows furrowing in deep thought. He had read countless cultivation and apocalypse novels, but experiencing such events in real life still left him in a state of shock and disbelief.
Moreover, he couldn’t shake the uneasy feeling that he had used some of Xu Zeng’s hidden resources, resources that didn’t belong to him.
The room held a surreal ambiance, with the dim, cold light of the crystals contrasting sharply with the darkness that had settled outside. The mysteries of this strange world continued to unfold, and Xu Feng was at the heart of it all, trying to navigate the inexplicable changes happening to him.
The weight of guilt hung heavy on Xu Feng’s shoulders as he stared at the radiant crystal nuclei in his hands. He knew he should have focused on cultivating or even taken a much needed nap, but he couldn’t ignore the unease that gnawed at him for having used Xu Zeng’s resources.
With a resigned sigh, he carefully returned the crystal nuclei to their hidden place, where they belonged. Regretful but determined to make amends, Xu Feng decided to put the situation right.
He slipped on the running shoes, adding an extra layer of clothing to his body to fend off the night chill. With a phone serving as a flashlight, he quietly descended the stairs of the old dormitory building, making his way back to the greenhouse.
Sleep could wait; there was work to be done, and Xu Zeng deserved every bit of effort he could provide.
As he entered the greenhouse, he resolved to expend as much energy as he could to benefit Xu Zeng. The dimly lit space seemed to come alive under his efforts, and Xu Feng pushed himself to his limits.
Time passed quickly, and it was well past midnight when exhaustion finally overcame him. Drained and weary, Xu Feng staggered back to Xu Zeng’s room. He collapsed onto the bed, utterly spent, and quickly succumbed to a dreamless slumber.
The world outside remained shrouded in darkness, while within the confines of the dormitory building, and especially in Xu Zeng’s room, there was an eerie silence that accompanied the deep, restorative sleep of a weary traveler.
