Chapter 247: A Glimpse into Xu Zeng’s World

The building Xu Feng found himself in was far from a typical home. It was an aged dormitory structure, one reserved for staff or teachers in what seemed to be an abandoned compound.

Located on the outskirts of a city—his former city—that appeared to have suffered the brunt of an apocalyptic event, this old building was a blatant contrast to the lush landscapes and orderly compounds he had grown accustomed to in Donghua.

His journey to understanding this unfamiliar world began on the top floor, which happened to be the fourth floor of the building. From this vantage point, he had a commanding view of the surrounding area, including the city beyond. The compound’s desolation struck him as an eerie evidence to the world’s downfall.

With a cautious and thorough search of the building, Xu Feng assessed its safety. His keen eyes didn’t miss the disconcerting sight of bloodstains in a room on the third floor.

Despite this unsettling discovery, he chose to ignore it, focusing instead on his need to comprehend this new reality and the person he had become, Xu Zeng.

The exterior of the compound unfolded like a vast and enigmatic canvas. The entire perimeter seemed dedicated to some form of agricultural or research facility, each building bearing the weight of its age but still maintained with a sense of purpose.

Adjacent to the dormitory building, there stood another structure, identical in design, hinting at its former use as accommodation for staff or academics. This mirrored presence suggested that the compound had once been a thriving hub of activity, a stark contrast to the emptiness that now permeated its surroundings.

However, the centerpiece of this complex was a larger building, aged and imposing, which seemed to be the focal point of the compound’s activities. Its purpose remained shrouded in mystery, prompting Xu Feng’s curiosity to stir even more.

The compound’s perimeter, marked by a tall, sturdy stone wall, suggested abandonment and neglect. It was covered with vines and cracks, but it served it’s purpose.

There were no signs of life, human or otherwise, that would have indicated recent activity. Silence enveloped the area, save for the occasional gust of wind that rustled through the overgrown vegetation in certain patches.

Moving stealthily and taking advantage of the new running shoes he had equipped; Xu Feng chose to put aside exploring the other buildings in favor of a direct path to what had caught his eye—an expansive greenhouse.

Even in this dangerous world, the greenhouse called to him like a beacon. It looked more decrepit than Xu Feng would have liked, but still it was magnificent.

The glass was towering and beautiful, no doubt providing the much needed insulation the greenhouse needed to give birth to life.

Even though it was an old structure, it was still more beautiful and awe inspiring than Xu Feng’s greenhouse in Nanshan estate.

Now, it was obvious Xu Zeng was a bit of a genius, what had this genius done with this precious gift he’d found? Did Xu Zeng also have a green thumb and wood abilities?

As he approached the greenhouse, Xu Feng marveled at the structure of this forsaken world in this old compound. The land, once meticulously cultivated for agricultural research, now lay in disarray, overrun by wild flora that had claimed dominance over the area.

The greenhouse itself was a radiant jewel in the middle of the encroaching wilderness. Its glass walls stood tall and proud, housing a lush garden of greenery within. Vibrant plants, thriving despite the chaos outside, reached for the sunlight streaming through the glass, their leaves shimmering like emeralds in the daylight.

The path leading to the greenhouse was filled with tangled vines and encroaching foliage, evidence of nature’s relentless reclamation.

Was this left to grow uncontrolled on purpose? Was this something Xu Zeng had designed to keep himself safe?

Beside the entrance to the greenhouse, Xu Feng’s keen eyes caught sight of a medium to large sized storage building, covered by the greenhouse, and connected by a slightly cleared pathway.

In an instant, his curiosity led him down this new path, choosing to investigate the storage room before investigating further into the mysteries of Xu Zeng’s greenhouse.

All the structures other than the main building of the compound were covered by the large wall, so most would be in the dark about the greenhouse and whatever other resources Xu Zeng had in this space.

As he entered the building, Xu Feng was met with an astonishing sight.

The room was filled with a treasure trove of technology and modern equipment, far more than he could have ever anticipated. Solar panels leaned against the walls, boxes of computers, tablets, smartphones, smartwatches, and more were stacked neatly on shelves.

Almost all open space was occupied with large and small machinery and technology.

His gaze shifted to a collection of equipment for harnessing wind and water power, alongside generators—both electric and gas powered—and two small electric cars. The sheer volume and variety of items within the storage building left him momentarily stunned.

While some of these items might have originally belonged to this storage building or the compound, it was evident that Xu Zeng had strategically relocated them here. This was his storage, meticulously organized and containing technology far beyond what Xu Feng had known.

The thought dawned on him that Xu Zeng had not only embraced modern technology but had mastered it, amassing a wealth of knowledge and resources in the process.

His silent admiration was mingled with confusion, trying to reconcile the Xu Zeng he had glimpsed with this resourceful and innovative version of the other him.

One of the small electric cars parked inside the storage building was loaded with what Xu Zeng must have considered necessities—a selection of solar equipment and larger food items, perhaps intended for mobility or a hasty retreat if needed.

Xu Feng sighed in contemplation, retracing his steps out of the storage building. He couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride, mixed with a lingering confusion about the enigma that was Xu Zeng.

As he circled around the storage building Xu Feng’s face completely lit up. While Xu Zeng was clearly a genius, they still thought similarly.

His hunch that this building was chosen strategically, was right.

In a blind corner, there was a small gate. So small, it would be a tight fit, but the electric car could get out of the compound in a sticky situation.
