Chapter 246: Who is Xu Zeng?

Chapter 246: Who is Xu Zeng?

Xu Feng couldn’t deny that this body, with its silver hair and changed features, had a certain allure, an air of resilience that hinted at the strength required to survive in such dire circumstances.

It was different from that bright eyed boy he’d once seen in a vision, who smiled at him without any reservations.

But deep down, Xu Feng longed to return to the world he now called home—Donghua, with its lush landscapes, immortal bloodlines, and the love of his two husbands. This was the place where he truly belonged, and the thought of leaving it behind was unthinkable.

Did the apocalypse make one more handsome in addition to granting those who were lucky abilities?

Xu Feng stared at the face in front of him, that was slightly more masculine, but just as charming as the one he now considered his own—the body in Donghua.

With a final, lingering look at the reflection in the mirror, Xu Feng withdrew his hand and turned away.

He was wasting sunlight, and it was unknown if this place had lighting or if it was safe at all.

The room that surrounded Xu Feng was minimalistic and practical, bearing no extravagances or unnecessary decorations. It was a space designed for functionality rather than aesthetics.

At its center stood a simple double bed, its frame made of sturdy metal and covered with a clean, neatly arranged set of grey bed linens.

Opposite the bed, a plain dresser with a small mirror served as storage for personal belongings. It was devoid of any personal items or trinkets, a reflection of the spartan lifestyle of its occupant.

A closet, nestled to the side, held a modest assortment of clothing, all neatly hung and arranged. Mostly sweat suits and track suits in dark and neutral colors. There were also various hats all in dark colors.

Nothing too eye catching.

The adjoining bathroom, though small, contained the essentials for daily hygiene. There was no running water, a fact that didn’t surprise Xu Feng in the least, given the circumstances of the apocalyptic world.

Instead, a large container filled with water sat in the corner, its contents providing for basic needs.

A closer look revealed a bucket of chilled water sitting inside the shower enclosure, which seemed to have been drawn for a bath but had been left unused.

Xu Feng pondered its purpose; perhaps it was meant for a quick bath whenever needed. Water was likely a precious resource in this harsh world, and Xu Zeng appeared to be resourceful in managing it.

As Xu Feng examined his surroundings, he couldn’t help but appreciate the cleanliness and orderliness of the room. It was evident that Xu Zeng had adapted well to the modern world, even in the midst of a zombie infested apocalypse.

The black track suit he wore was clean and freshly laundered, his grey socks and house slippers completing the simple yet functional ensemble.

The scent of cleanliness hung in the air, a stark contrast to the outside world’s decay and danger. It was a show of Xu Zeng’s ability to maintain a sense of normalcy amidst chaos, and it left Xu Feng with a newfound respect for the other version of himself who had navigated this harsh reality with resilience and rationality.

The discovery of three cell phones, including his own, on the bedside table left Xu Feng utterly confused. It was a striking abnormality in a world that typically depicted power shortages in apocalyptic novels.

As he examined the devices, he found that all three of them were powered up and fully charged. His disbelief deepened; how was it possible that these phones retained power in a world where electricity was a luxury?

Curiosity piqued, Xu Feng decided to look further into the mystery by opening the bedside table. To his astonishment, he found several modern high end tablets, all of the latest and most expensive brands, powered up and ready for use.

His mind raced with questions: did Xu Zeng have an affinity for technology, or was there something more to this extraordinary situation?

The realization prompted Xu Feng to retrace his steps to the closet, where he had noticed a few bags earlier. Among them were two duffle bags, one filled with daily necessities such as clothes, toothbrushes, and underwear, and the other packed with food staples, foods with long shelf lives, and an abundance of seeds.

So many seeds!

Most intriguing of all, a portable solar charger was tucked among the supplies.

Xu Feng’s awe grew as he grasped the significance of these items. Xu Zeng had not only embraced advanced technology but also understood the principles of harnessing solar power. It was clear that the other version of himself possessed a remarkable intellect that far exceeded Xu Feng’s own capabilities.

Within the closet, Xu Feng discovered a small stack of books, each one going deep into complex subjects like solar energy, wind powered systems, water filtration, and house rewiring.

The knowledge contained within these pages was beyond anything he had encountered before. Xu Zeng appeared to be a genius in the field of sustainable technology or just technology in general?

As Xu Feng continued his search, he finally located a black backpack, presumably Xu Zeng’s emergency escape kit. Within it, he found a laptop and a fourth fully charged cell phone, along with a mini portable solar charger and other essential items.

The disparity between Xu Feng and Xu Zeng’s preparedness for survival in this world was glaring.

Driven by the desire to assist Xu Zeng, Xu Feng found himself overwhelmed by the young man’s resourcefulness and intelligence.

Initially, he was determined to spend time in this "dream" or whatever it was, helping Xu Zeng, but instead he was just flabbergasted. Instead of helping, it would be best if he left the boy as unscathed as he found him...

The room at first seemed simple and unassuming but was actual full of hidden cards and the boy who should have been a simple ancient man from another world, was a genius. Possibly a genius.

A genius who was living well enough in an unexpected reality.
