Chapter 176: Dragons in the Greenhouse
The greenhouse, teeming with life, was a vibrant vision of colors and scents. As the sunlight poured through the open window coverings of the ceiling, it embraced the flora within, creating an ambiance of ethereal beauty. The air was filled with the sweet perfume of blossoms, and the various flowers seemed to dance under the warm embrace of the spring sun.
Within this underground sanctuary, the world outside seemed distant. The window paper ceiling allowed the gentle rays of sunlight to filter in, casting a mosaic of light and shadow on the verdant foliage that thrived in the controlled environment. It was as if nature had conspired with Xu Feng to create a paradise under the earth’s surface.
Despite its original intention as Xu Feng’s private sanctuary, over the last few months, the greenhouse often found itself hosting the company of the two serpentine companions.
Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian, were similar to creatures of the sun, were drawn irresistibly by the warmth and vibrancy of the greenhouse. In the cold grip of winter, the attraction of the heated haven became their sanctuary.
It wouldn’t be shocking if the two men were in fact cold blooded creatures, or at least Xuan Yang was. While Xuan Jian was still actively going up the Nanshan Mountains (occasionally) and training during that time, Xuan Yang was a lot more stationary.
Despite occasional disagreements and moments of stubbornness, Xu Feng held a degree of trust in the two men. In these moments, the warmth of their bond seemed to echo the verdant embrace of the blossoming plants around them.
In the intricate dance of secrecy, both Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian proved themselves skilled at guarding the sanctuary of the greenhouse, a realm shrouded from prying eyes and kept veiled from the outside world.
For the common people of Donghua, the mere conception of such a greenhouse would be revolutionary, maybe even a potential source of wealth. Despite the Xuan family’s wealth, Xuan Yang never displayed the airs of a pampered young master. His demeanor suggested a character more intrigued by possibilities than the comforts of luxury.
The prospect of capitalizing on this innovation lingered in Xu Feng’s thoughts. If Xuan Yang wanted to commercialize the idea, there would be no distinct trace leading back to its inventor...
There was no way to protect the greenhouse, and Xu Feng had no hard feelings about this, but neither Xuan Jian or Xuan Yang had brought this up over the last few months.
The accelerated growth of the plants within this garden haven defied conventional explanation. Even in the depths of winter, the greenhouse thrived, fostering blooms that would otherwise be impossible.
Scientific principles and the nuances of thermodynamics, concepts that were leagues beyond the comprehension of an average Donghua resident, came into play. Yet, these explanations seemed inadequate in the face of the greenhouse’s extraordinary productivity.
In the middle of this botanical marvel, the snakes remained observant, yet restrained. Their lingering gazes over Xu Feng’s bountiful yields spoke volumes, yet they never vocalized their questions. Their unspoken curiosity lingered in the air, a silent proof of their ability to be trusted.
Beyond the idea of the greenhouse itself, the rapid growth of plants within the structure was beyond explainable. The health of any flora Xu Feng laid his hands on was so strong, they easily rivaled anything the two men could have ever seen before.
Xu Feng sighed contentedly as he surveyed the greenhouse, realizing the mysterious nature of his own existence. He probably seemed like a weird existence to the two men. (More than he could ever know!)
A serene smile graced his lips, a reflection of his tranquil and extraordinary environment.
In the heart of the greenhouse, Xu Feng’s most cherished plants radiated an extraordinary influence, one that transcended mere warmth and coziness. They seemed to infuse the air with an essence, something indefinable and mystic.
In the middle of these remarkable blooms, the atmosphere felt denser, purer, and inexplicably ethereal. There was an unmistakable strength to their aura and an intensity to their fragrances that surpassed the ordinary.
While many plants offered purity and cleanliness to the air, especially in this ancient world without pollution, these six plants transcended expectations. Their presence seemed to dispel weariness, alleviate sickness, ease headaches, and it was recently proven that it purified sacred bloodlines when ingested.
At least it worked in their family in Nanshan estate, and for Bai Mo who was a frequent visitor.
Among them stood the few remaining Dragon Chrysanthemum rainbow flowers, dazzling in their rarity. Though not extinct in the wider world of Dongzhou, these blooms held immense value, particularly among those of immortal bloodlines and the larger and wealthier families.
Only two blooms remained after Xu Feng had prepared tea for his family and allocated a portion for Bai Mo to present to his distant relatives in the esteemed Bai and Deng main families of Jinghua.
Additionally, he had readied the wild variety of Dragon Chrysanthemums acquired painstakingly by Xuan Jian.
His intention wasn’t to disregard the thoughtful gift from Xuan Jian. Instead, it was an attempt to veil their actions and involvement from the Deng and Bai families. Given the occasional discovery of Dragon Chrysanthemums in less inhabited regions, having a stock of lower grade flowers would serve as an effective cover.
As for the remaining two Dragon Chrysanthemum flowers dancing proudly in the greenhouse, Xu Feng had already made the decision to treat these plants as well. It wasn’t safe having the two flowers growing in the greenhouse.
What if an uninvited guest found their way into the greenhouse? With Xu Feng mostly at home, and Xuan Yang attending to the aftermath of the "stripping incident" following the Xuicai exams, the likelihood of him leaving his estate anytime soon was slim, but he still had plans to go up the mountain.
He had been "advised" by the Xuan young master to explore nearby towns instead of returning to Yilin town, a suggestion that carried an undercurrent of guilt within Xu Feng. Allowing Xuan Yang to deal with the mess he caused stirred a sense of commitment in him to obey.
Yet, a part of him toyed with the idea of ruining the reputation of the Xuan family, an idea that would be fun, but not very nice(?)
