Chapter 177: The Blooms of the Strange Seed

Decidedly, Xu Feng was determined to dry the two Dragon Chrysanthemums in the greenhouse. By properly storing the seeds from his harvests, he believed everything would remain secure. After all, he had managed to cultivate the dried and withered seeds from the Yilin seed shop; surely, his healthy seeds held promise under his attentive care and ability.

In the middle of winter’s silence, Xu Feng diligently began a journal, cataloging meticulous details about the peculiar seeds bought from the Yilin seed shop. Every trait, from the required wood energy needed to sprout each seed, factoring in their age and how dry they were, found its place in his entries.

Rummaging through volumes of plant books in his personal study, Xu Feng devotedly sought any references that aligned with the developing characteristics of the plants.

Even before Xuan Jian stumbled on the wild Dragon Chrysanthemums, Xu Feng had inked down the legendary properties of these flowers, hopeful that some of these legendary effects might be true for his blooms as well.

Among the six distinct varieties of seeds acquired from the shopkeeper in the Yilin Seed shop, only a lone seed remained elusive, defying Xu Feng’s exhaustive research efforts between his study times.

In the group of seeds from the Yilin shop, the "ice seed" stood out distinctively, its exterior continuously coated in a veneer of permafrost. It appeared so lifeless that Xu Feng diligently infused it with wood abilities for weeks before the stirrings of life were felt.

To understand their preferences, Xu Feng conducted an experiment, separating the seeds into two batches. One set was embraced by the chill outdoors, while the other received the tender care of indoor germination norms. Interestingly, those left to the cold seemed to respond more swiftly to Xu Feng’s abilities.

Yet, after three months, both groups of ice seeds had remained slow to sprout, showcasing no signs of burgeoning buds. Their appearance, however, was a breathtaking marvel in the greenhouse, resembling ethereal stalks of translucent ice nestled in the middle the lush area of greenery.

Now aware of the sensitivity surrounding the growth of Dragon Chrysanthemums, Xu Feng strategically planted these mysterious ice seeds in a secluded corner of the greenhouse, obscured by produce foliage to shield them from prying eyes. Their delicate existence required secrecy, lest unwanted attention should be drawn.

As for the remaining 4 strange seeds, they were strange and elusive plants that weren’t planted by normal cultivators, but they could be purchased after being harvested from areas of wilderness, like Dragon Chrysanthemums, but they were lower in value for the people of Donghua.

Among the four successfully sown seeds, there were Black Chrysanthemums or Hei Ju Hua, a strange variety of Astragalus or Huang Qi, a fiery red version of Honeysuckle or Jin Yin Hua, and Schisandra or Wu Wei Zi.

Of all four plants, none of them were in line with what Xu Feng knew from his original world, they were all strange. Even the locals couldn’t identify their seeds, so these plants weren’t handled much despite being recorded in obscure books.

The Black Chrysanthemums had found their way into Xu Feng’s diet in the last four days. Since his house call with Doctor Ping, Xu Feng had decided to have a baby. This would be a priority for him.

Instead of shrinking back if the men didn’t want him after a baby was born, he would go through with it, and deal with whatever happened when it happened.

He was already healthy; his physique was naturally good at childbirth according to the mole on his head. To make things easier, in addition to eating the leftover Dharma goat consistently, he was drinking Black Chrysanthemum tea.

Black Chrysanthemum was known to increase fertility in Donghua. While it wasn’t as rare or valuable as it’s Dragon brethren, child birth was difficult in Donghua. It was hard for gers to get pregnant, but it was also ideal for them to get pregnant.

Gers had a higher chance of birthing immortal bloodline children. So, when Black Chrysanthemum was found, it sold out in record time for a good price. Wealthy families weren’t short of this gold, and future generations was usually a top priority.

The Astralagus’ purpose was similar to the modern variety, except more potent. It was great for boosting immunity and increasing vitality exponentially. It was even considered to be a divine plant capable of saving those on the cusp of death.

This was also a big money maker for Xu Feng. Anything with divine in it, should be a big money maker!

Honeysuckle and Schisandra, one with amazing antibacterial properties and the other a great de stressor with the ability to enhance clarity were good medicinal plants. But they weren’t the most popular of the lot. They were potent plants that when encountered in the wilderness, they would be treasured.

If Xu Feng really wanted to make a huge profit though, these two plants would have been popular a few decades ago, during the unrest in the kingdoms of the continent. These plants were even more popular than Dragon Chrysanthemum, when the five kingdoms of Dongzhou were at war when the Dragon bloodline descendants were no more.

While their asking price was lower, many families of each faction/bloodline would still stockpile such miracle plants for the next great disaster—natural or manmade.

One thing all six plants had in common, was that they were hard to cultivate naturally. They were all treasures when found in the wild, and often had good selling prices if you found an interested party who could afford their worth.

Like with the Dragon Chrysanthemum, all Xu Feng’s special stock of plants, were usually traded in large pharmacies in big cities, or they were auctioned off for a high price.

Xu Feng wasn’t sure exactly how he wanted to sell his stock, but it was a money making venture he couldn’t pass up.

He wandered among the rows of blooms, the soft rays of sunlight streaming through the transparent ceiling creating a mosaic of light and shadow on the multicolored petals. Each flower, a masterpiece in itself.

Taking a pause, Xu Feng leaned against a trellis adorned with an intricate weave of climbing vines, his mind ablaze with ideas. He envisioned the potential beyond these lush rows of vibrant life. This greenhouse would be more than just his sanctuary, he needed to care for it well.
