The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL] -
Chapter 167: House Call
Chapter 167: House Call
The glass doll tried his best to maintain a calm appearance. He wasn’t the only one. Both Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian had calm expressions, his young mistress façade wasn’t strange in the least. They were the perfect triple pack of icebergs.
"The young mistress is doing much better," the astonishment in Doctor Ping’s voice was apparent. He stroked his mustache slowly, straightening out the slight curl at the end as he contemplated something.
"Better?" it was Xuan Yang who prompted the elder for more information.
"Yes," Doctor Ping seemed to be brought back to the current day and time. "I wasn’t expecting him to make such a recovery in only three moon cycles."
Again, he paused, and moved his fingers as if making calculations. "Yes, it has only been three months since the young mistress..."
"Master Feng," Si cut into the conversation without thinking as her eyes rounded starring at all the adults present. San looked down as if she was regretting there being too many people present for her to get away with slapping the idiot beside her.
All the other servants had been dismissed including Xuan Yang’s close servants, all apart from the two girls. They would likely be the ones caring for Xu Feng if he was...if he was pregnant.
Doctor Ping however didn’t seem disturbed by the girl’s interruption, only nodding with a small smile on his face. This reaction helped Xu Feng to put down his heart slightly.
He wasn’t a true native of Donghua, but he had enough inherited memories, and experiences in the past few months to know women weren’t valued highly in this society. The nobles were a different story though.
And while gers could adopt the position of a man in society with enough money and family support, they were never looked at with the same respect as men were. Households with two gers as head of household and main wife, even if they gave birth to sons, their children were looked down on by other families.
While all of this was sad and unfortunate for society, Xu Feng knew he was lucky. A ger in this world had some standing, could become educated, and were valued for their ability to birth immortal bloodline children.
While they were less respected because of their gender, their higher ability to birth purer immortal bloodline children granted them some respect in society. Because of the fact he could lay eggs, he had a way out in life.
No matter how long he lived in Donghua, Xu Feng could never get rid of his modern perspectives, those who treated all genders fairly, and liked children were given extra points in his book.
Si was still a child to him, while 11 years old was close to marriageable age in this world, Xu Feng still treated her and San, who was 14 years old this year and of marriageable age, like capable children.
The two girls were much healthier in only 4 months total, they actually looked their ages, growing taller and less yellow and withered in coloring. Now they were healthy shades of wheat and white.
"Master Feng," Doctor Ping continued with the change in title given by Si graciously. "It’s only been 3 months since I last saw Master Feng. Even with the medication I prescribed him, it should have taken several more months for the poison to leave his body, but it’s completely gone."
Xu Feng looked down at the wrist that was examined by Doctor Ping. He still didn’t understand how so much information could be learnt from a single press of the wrist. There were traditional doctors in modern Dongmen too, but still.
"He has become rounder," Xuan Jian added, as if the glare Xu Feng gave him the night before wasn’t sharp enough to give him a long memory.
Doctor Ping only nodded, not foolish enough to bring up a young mistress’ weight unless it was vital to a case. A wise man indeed.
"Have you felt more energetic lately?"
Xu Feng nodded almost immediately. He had been stressed out leading up to the Xuicai exam, but honestly, in the last two months his energy levels had been peak.
His abilities had also grown by leaps and bounds as he practiced daily when the snow wasn’t too high. At the beginning of winter, he could cover the area of the greenhouse once with his abilities. And even then, he would need to do it in two sessions.
One half of the greenhouse in the morning, then the second half in the evening before bed, and he would be drained both times.
Recently, he could apply a thicker layer of ability through the entire greenhouse during his morning visit without feeling tired. And the plants in the greenhouse were mostly the special seeds that took more energy to nurture than regular produce.
Feeling the urge to speak up, he added, "I have had much more energy recently."
Doctor Ping nodded knowingly before looking at the two girls. Xu Feng already felt comfortable with Doctor Ping, his presence wasn’t obtrusive, and he didn’t seem to be here to rub elbows with the Xuan family.
Whatever reason he had for wanting the girls to leave shouldn’t be something sexist, or chauvinistic.
Xu Feng looked toward Si and San (who was secretly pinching the other girl’s arm, most likely for the outburst a moment ago). For the first time that day, a real smile dawned his face with the cheer reaching his eyes.
Xu Feng’s smile was a beacon of warmth, an unexpected burst of sunshine that illuminated the room. It wasn’t just a simple curve of lips; it was a show of genuine happiness. His eyes lit up like radiant stars, painting the air with an infectious joy that melted the chill in the room.
Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian, masters of icy looks, visibly thawed. Surprise flickered across their faces, their icy composure faltering for a fleeting moment. Doctor Ping couldn’t help but emit a subtle gasp, surprised by the sudden shift in the atmosphere.
The smile that blossomed on Xu Feng’s face was a fleeting glimpse into the soul of a usually guarded man. It infused the room with a soft glow that lingered even after the smile faded a few heartbeats later.
With eye contact to the girls, he dismissed them from the reception hall. As soon as the door was closed Doctor Ping didn’t hold back his curiosity.
