The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 146: Cunning Fox

Chapter 146: Cunning Fox

Bai Mo’s backstory was almost unimaginable to Xu Feng. Every time he learned more about his new friend’s childhood, he felt more in awe of the boy and the need to pamper Momo only grew.

His swift handling of usurpers and spies within his mansion happened in the blink of an eye, prioritizing the safety of his loyal people over the sad matters of his heart and the haunting loss of his parents.

Bai Mo hadn’t let either side of his family, the distant Bais and Dengs, take over his father and dad’s properties and wealth. From the age of 15 years old, he was already outsmarting old foxes.

Literal foxes.

The Bais and the Dengs, were both descendants of the fox bloodline.

In Xu Feng’s eyes, Bai Mo embodied the spirit of a real fox, and under Xu Feng’s attentive care, the boy appeared to mirror more and more of that cunning and flexibility.

"Master, Feng."

"Master Feng, the master is waiting inside."

After arriving at the Master’s private chambers, Xu Feng encountered the familiar faces of devoted elderly servants who had faithfully attended Bai Mo since his infancy. Their genuine enthusiasm and heartfelt greetings reflected the obvious shift in Bai Mo’s demeanor within a brief period.

Acknowledging the elders with a nod and a warm smile, Xu Feng proceeded into the secluded confines, noting the serious undertone implicit in the private meeting, a contrast to their earlier casual meeting.

"Feng Feng!" A slightly scared voice tinged with uncertainty. "Do you think it’s a mistake to take the Dragon Chrysanthemum tea to the family elders?"

Seated in a space resembling Xu Feng’s modern living room, there sat a figure with striking glossy brown hair and piercing yellow eyes, arousing an almost strange familiarity.

The boy before Xu Feng bore a striking resemblance but seemed somehow more intense. His distinguishing feature, a pair of pointed, furry ears, topped off his appearance.

These ears, soft and velvety, held an almost ethereal quality, resembling plush cushions with a sleek, gleaming texture. Bai Mo, the master of the house, constantly stroked them in a soothing gesture.

Seating himself beside Bai Mo, Xu Feng suppressed his hunger, ignoring the food spread before them. They had managed to maintain appearances long enough to secure a moment of privacy before Xu Feng’s departure back to Nanshan Mountain.

His ride back to the Nanshan estate would arrive soon.

"You’re set on revealing your awakened bloodline, right?" the silver haired ger inquired.

"Yes, it’s necessary!" replied the golden brown haired fox, with no doubt in his voice.

Their reason behind sending the Dragon Chrysanthemum was to provide rationale for Bai Mo’s newly awakened bloodline. Once he visited the Bai family, he intended to unveil his ears openly to the world. His ability to retract them showed his extraordinary talent.

Bai Mo however didn’t believe he was that lucky. He saw Xu Feng as his guiding star, transforming his life in just one winter. In only one winter his life had turned around. He wasn’t yet a scholar like he promised his parents, but their bloodline hadn’t run dry with him!

All of this was owed to Xu Feng’s influence. Bai Mo was immensely grateful, not daring to pry into how Xu Feng had achieved this transformation. The fact that Xu Feng generously shared his immortal plants and offered some for the main family was an act of supreme trust.

However, Bai Mo had no intention of accepting Xu Feng’s generosity without reciprocating. He aimed to repay Xu Feng’s kindness in every imaginable way, his dad and father could now rest in peace.

"Okay," Xu Feng sighed, appearing somewhat hesitant about their plan but willing to support his friend. "I’ll process one plant into teas and divide it in two."

"One portion for the Deng family and the other for the Bai family. For the Bai family elder’s ancestor, I’ll specially package a dull Dragon Chrysanthemum from the mountains as a birthday gift."

Even as Xu Feng agreed, Bai Mo noticed the visible worry on his friend’s face. Their bond had grown significantly over the winter. Xu Feng’s expression, often neutral or aloof, now revealed more to Bai Mo, making his emotions easier to recognize.

"Don’t worry. I’ll tell them you found a stalk in the mountains, and the tea was a secret stash from my parents’ treasure."

The stuff found in the mountains wasn’t as valuable as what Xu Feng offered. Both family elders were always trying to grab Bai Mo’s parents’ things since their passing, so it wouldn’t be hard for them to believe that his clever and wise businessman father had a treasure like top quality Chrysanthemum tea.

Xu Feng seemed unsure.

"We’re both fox clan. Whether you’re from the Deng or Bai bloodline, we need to secure both family’s inheritances for you. Thanks to Feng Feng, now I have a better chance to claim the immortal beast ancestor’s inheritance..."

"We’re kind of rivals, though. What if you help me get stronger, and I end up inheriting the fox ancestor’s inheritance?"

Bai Mo rolled his eyes, "You know I don’t buy into that prophecy completely. How can only one person be chosen?"

Bai Mo and Xu Feng had been studying the small Deng and Bai inheritances left to Momo’s parents. There really was some reason all the four remaining bloodlines were vying to give birth to strong children. It wasn’t just the Xuan family.

Bai Mo continued, "I just want to become stronger." He had seen both the Deng and Bai families treating his parents like they were pariahs after failing to birth any bloodline carrying children.

It was more than enough for him to gain an advantage over them in this way. He only wanted to be stronger than them, and Xu Feng could be stronger than him.

"Even if there’s some magical inheritance, I don’t want either family to have it," Bai Mo declared with determination. "I’ll stand by you through it all."

Xu Feng chuckled, dimples and all, before picking up a delicacy from the table and popping it into his mouth in one go.

But Bai Mo wasn’t done yet. "I’ll do my best to make today’s incident at the exam disappear."

The determination on Bai Mo’s face was inspiring. Since the boy had awakened his bloodline, he became even more charismatic, but maybe a little less just.
