Chapter 144: Dragon Chrysanthemum

Chapter 144: Dragon Chrysanthemum

Bai Mo continued to sit upright on the cushion as he gazed out at the scenery coming to life in the background. The winter had been the coldest in the past three years. Many had died in rural areas, and the government had to give out the minimum aid to the poor.

Life was fickle, people died every day, and things weren’t fair, Bai Mo knew this.

He also knew somewhere deep down that he didn’t kill his parents, and he wasn’t a bad luck charm.

Xu Feng had told him over and over again about how bad Kang Han was for him. He even agreed with his new friend, but everyone else thought Kang Han was the perfect husband for him.

He had the perfect fiancée, the one everyone else wanted, but Bai Mo wasn’t good enough, and he lost everything. His dad, his father, and finally his fiancée.

"You aren’t missing anything Bai Mo." Xu Feng broke the toxic thoughts playing through the other boy’s head. "Not a single thing."

"Kang Han couldn’t stand by you through your hardest moments, and he doesn’t deserve you at your peak." Xu Feng abruptly grinned, his dimples popping out as he smiled evilly, "Also, you are way too smart for him. The man obviously has an inferiority complex."

At this Bai Mo began to giggle. He wasn’t sure about some other things, but this was true. Kang Han never liked how ambitious he was.

When they were still engaged and went to the same school, Kang Han had brought up the fact that he didn’t want Bai Mo to continue studying after they were married.

Bai Mo was the only child of the Bai family of Yilin, yet, Kang Han wanted him to stay in the backyard for life, and let his family end with him.

This had always been a point of contention between them, and during one of their discussions, was when Kang Han blurted out that he didn’t want his wife to have a higher title than him.

"It’s bad enough that your family has a higher rank. A wife shouldn’t ride on their husband’s head."

As the thoughts crossed his mind, all the conversations with red flags seemed to flow past Bai Mo’s mind’s eye. Kang Han might be the ideal husband for a lot of gers and women in Yilin, but he wasn’t the right fit for Bai Mo.

"I’m sorry about Sun Ming Hua, I didn’t think he would be so..."

Before Bai Mo could finish, the newly brunette ger cut him off abruptly, "Don’t even. What other people do, is not your fault. You didn’t force anyone to do anything."

"I think you have become ruder with this brown hair." Bai Mo noted with narrowed eyes, but a smile playing on his lips.

"Yes, they say blondes have more fun, but I think I have way more fun as a brunette." Xu Feng said casually, "Maybe I would have a ball as a blonde."

"Do they say that?" Bai Mo asked. "...a ball?"

He knew Xu Feng would occasionally say strange things when he got comfortable. Xu Feng’s dad must have read many books to him when he was a child. As a lover of knowledge, he would try his hardest to remember all the strange things Xu Feng says. He even started a book full of quotes from Xu Feng.

Xu Feng went back to staring into space, neither denying or accepting or commenting on Bai Mo’s questions.

"Don’t forget to wash the dye out of your hair." Bai Mo reminded his friend, "I don’t think young master Xuan Yang likes your hair like this."

At this Xu Feng couldn’t help but cough as he continued to look determinedly into the void. Bai Mo immediately made arrangements with a maid to boil some water, and prepare to wash Xu Feng’s hair.

"It’s okay. I’ll take a bath, and wash it out myself."

Bai Mo nodded, and relayed the message to the servant who was waiting nearby. "Make sure to set out the clothing Xu Feng brought beside the bathing bucket, and prepare an extra hot bath."

"Yes, my lord."

"Ah!" Bai Mo exclaimed as a thought struck him before he dismissed the servant. "You’re free to go."

As the woman bowed politely to Bai Mo and Xu Feng, he couldn’t help but notice how quickly he had gotten used to people bowing to him. From the old servants to the new servants, Xu Feng had gotten desensitized over the winter months.

He still wasn’t accustomed to bowing to others yet though.

"I almost forgot, do your have any more Dragon Chrysanthemums?" Bai Mo asked full of excitement and anticipation that Xu Feng wanted to offer him as many flowers as he could carry, but he restrained himself.

"A few..." He replied vaguely before knowing how many Bai Mo wanted.

He was a wood ability user after all, and spawning a few flowers was easier than growing crops, vegetables, fruits, and his special seeds from winter.

The Dragon Chrysanthemums, were brought back from deep in the mountains by Xuan Jian only a few weeks back. They were blooming despite the melting snow.

Since then, Xu Feng had been growing the multi colored flowers in his greenhouse. Dragon Chrysanthemums were believed by the inhabitants of Dongzhou to increase the potency of immortal bloodline carrier’s blood.

It was a flower with a long history dating back to the arrival of the immortal beasts on Dongzhou, but they were hard to grow and were nearly extinct on the continent. Even when they were found, they were hard to grow in captivity.

So, whenever a wild Dragon Chrysanthemum flower was found in the wild, it was always kept as a family treasure by large families.

"I’ll be going back to the main Bai family house in Jinghua in two days to celebrate the second elder’s birthday." Bai Mo blushed, "I would like to..."

"I’ll set aside two flowers for you." Xu Feng cut in again, wanting to give the other ger more, but knowing too much of a good thing can be dangerous.

"Really rude," Bai Mo teased with a big smile on his face. He didn’t really seem to mind if the other boy cut him off today.
