Chapter 117: Play Gone Wrong

Xu Feng found himself in a situation that reminded him of his school days when a new student joined the class and everyone was eager to make friends. But in this case, he was the newcomer, and there was only one person who wanted to spend time with him or rather, study with him.

It wasn’t as if he were the most sought after friend; he had simply met someone who shared his enthusiasm for studying. The Xu Feng from his previous life would probably have become fast friends with Bai Mo. After all, he had spent most of his time studying in his past life, so he wasn’t known for his vibrant social life.

Xu Feng glanced over at Erlang, who remained steadfast and supportive by his side. He decided it was time to settle the books he had set aside earlier and paid for them at the counter. He wasn’t in the mood to search for more books right now.

As he walked toward the counter, a wave of dizziness overcame Xu Feng, causing him to sway and his vision to briefly grey out before returning to normal.

"Young mistress!" Erlang called out to the unsteady Xu Feng.

"That’s Master Feng to you," Xu Feng said with a smile, though internally, he was grateful he hadn’t collapsed in front of the onlookers in the Central bookstore. Especially considering he had given most of them the evil eye.

Erlang remained unconvinced by Xu Feng’s act. He had always heard that gers should be treated with gentleness, as they weren’t as physically strong as men and couldn’t bear the same burdens.

Xu Feng hadn’t been carrying much today, but he had spent most of the day on his feet. Perhaps it was time to return to the carriage or get something for Xu Feng to eat; it had been a long day.

As Xu Feng waited for the store assistant to slowly calculate his total, a wave of shock rippled through the remaining crowd in the bookstore. A few people had left, and new patrons had come in since the earlier drama.

Even the store assistant, who had been deliberately dragging out the checkout process, was left open mouthed and astonished as he stared behind Xu Feng. The stupid look on his face made Xu Feng want to laugh, but he had an idea that would be much more fun, especially after everything that happened in this bookstore.

While part of him was glad Bai Mo had already left, since such an over reaction was rather embarrassing, Xu Feng still found a degree of satisfaction that his husbands had finally arrived.

Though he had always acted with (at least a little) modesty and restraint around Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian, his behavior changed at this moment.

He decided to put on a performance, he had been inspired by a certain skilled actor. Xu Feng softened his expression, trying to imitate the look the pretentious ger Ming Hua had given the scholars earlier, a look of deep world shattering hurt.

Xu Feng didn’t hold back, taking down his updo and fixing his hair as best he could without a mirror to reference. He made sure to emphasize his features, from his full lips and straight nose to his large and well shaped phoenix eyes and sharp jawline.

He turned his body dramatically toward Xuan Yang at an angle to accentuate each feature.

"Husband, I have been bullied," Xu Feng pouted his lips with an agenda. "Where have you been?"

The scene in the Central bookstore had frozen, time itself seemed to stall as Xuan Yang and Xu Feng locked eyes. The ambient light, filtered through the bookstore’s dusty windows, cast a soft, ethereal glow upon the two figures.

Xuan Yang, tall and commanding, stood like a statue of an ancient immortal in his perfectly tailored robes, his midnight black hair gleaming under the gentle illumination. His eyes, pools of endless darkness, bore into Xu Feng’s with an intensity that sent shivers down the spines of those watching.

Beside him, Xu Feng stood with an air of vulnerability that seemed at odds with his usual self assured behavior. His silver hair cascaded like a radiant waterfall, framing his face.

The delicate arch of his eyebrows and the warm, rosy flush of his lips contrasted starkly with the icy anxiety that danced in his shimmering phoenix eyes.

In this moment full of tension, time ceased to exist. The world around them faded away, and in that moment, Xu Feng knew he had done a little too much. A silence enveloped them, heavy with unspoken emotions as the ger regretted this play.

The spectators, whose gazes had been magnetically drawn to the unfolding drama, felt as though they were intruding on a private moment, witnessing an intimate exchange of raw emotion.

The young master’s initial pause was fleeting as his face transformed with anger seeing the distress on Xu Feng’s face, but it wasn’t his voice that was heard first.

"Who bullied you?" It was a level of anger Xu Feng had never heard in Xuan Jian’s typically either icy or warm voice. This was a kind of fiery intensity that was entirely new to him.

Not a type of fire that was nice and would lead to spicy time, it was full of pure rage, and made Xu Feng’s spine shiver in an unpleasant way.

Almost instantly, Xu Feng began to regret his actions on a completely different level.

Xu Feng, who had put on quite a show in the bookstore earlier, was now relieved to escape from the prying eyes of onlookers. Walking out with his husbands by his side, he clung to Xuan Yang’s hand for emotional support.

Or more like Xuan Yang clung to his hand as a kind of reassurance. Xu Feng hadn’t reached out for the taller man’s hand, yet it was intertwined with his own.

The scene had been a spectacle, a drama that unfolded in the middle of the bookstore, and he knew it had likely caused confusion and gossip among the bystanders.

That didn’t even phase Xu Feng at this point. The entire day he had been made a spectacle of.
