The Ger's Contract Marriage [BL]
Chapter 118: A Delicate Ger

Chapter 118: A Delicate Ger

As they left the Central bookstore, Xu Feng, hand in hand with Xuan Yang, glanced back and couldn’t help but notice the ongoing dynamic between Erlang, lagging behind with a bundle of books and other purchases Xu Feng had made, and the still seething Xuan Jian, who followed behind him.

The daylight was waning in Yilin town, casting elongated shadows on the cobblestone streets as they moved forward.

The scene at the bookstore had without a doubt been a spectacle, with drama unfolding in the middle of the store, likely causing confusion and gossip among the onlookers. Yet, none of that seemed to faze Xu Feng at this point.

The entire day had seen him made a spectacle of, and he was more concerned about resolving the tension that now hung in the air. The gossip spreading in Yilin town was already beyond his control.

His biggest concern, however, was not the curious onlookers but the well being of poor Erlang. Erlang had been nothing but supportive throughout the day, but somehow, he was now bearing the consequences of Xu Feng’s actions, and that didn’t sit well with the true culprit, Xu Feng.

Erlang, still holding the basket of books and other purchases made by Xu Feng, walked at a slower pace as he maintained a distance from the seething Xuan Jian, who remained visibly upset.

Xuan Jian had not taken lightly to Xu Feng’s dramatic display, and he was consumed by worry, believing that something terrible had happened to Xu Feng while he had been away from the ger. His mind was plagued by the uncertainty of the situation and what he wasn’t being told.

Xu Feng was a magnet for trouble and it was obvious to Xuan Jian.

As they walked through the town’s narrowing streets and the sounds of the busy town gradually filled their ears, Xu Feng recognized that it was time to address the situation openly and come clean.

Little cute gers could make drama, but he couldn’t!

"Master, it has been a long day, and Master Feng should be hungry," Erlang stubbornly spoke up, his concern for Xu Feng clearly evident as he remembered his master’s unsteady walk from earlier.

Xuan Yang, who had proven to be the more understanding and empathetic one today, paused and looked back at Xuan Jian, who was still wrestling with anger and anxiety from the recent events.

However, neither Xuan Yang or Xuan Jian could ignore the fact that the younger ger needed nourishment after such a physically and (maybe?) emotionally draining day.

In a silent but understood exchange, they agreed that they needed to set aside the recent drama and focus on taking care of Xu Feng’s immediate needs.

With nods from both Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian, they decided to prioritize Xu Feng’s well being and postpone any discussion until they could find a more private and intimate setting.

As they walked through the narrow streets of Yilin town, Xu Feng remained outwardly quiet, his hand held openly by Xuan Yang without any complaints.

It was a change from his usual mindset, as for once, his thoughts weren’t preoccupied with concerns about his reputation after the divorce. Instead, a different set of puzzling thoughts consumed him.

Xuan Yang’s overly empathetic display of kindness had left Xu Feng a bit confused, the snake was treating him too gently. There were no Xuan elders here to confuse, and it wasn’t like they were just going along with the mood.

The hand holding, in particular, puzzled him. It was something they had been doing frequently, was it just an unconscious reaction now?

And the fact that Xuan Jian was so visibly upset was equally mystifying to him. After all, even if something had happened at the bookstore, he had Erlang with him, and he didn’t think it justified such a strong and out of character reaction.

Xuan Yang and Xuan Jian were well aware of Xu Feng’s playful nature, and he’d engaged in verbal showdowns with the two snakes before. Public displays or dramatic acts weren’t something that typically provoked such intense emotions.

Both men seemed to take his previous plays in stride when the Xuan elders were present. Why were they taking it so seriously this time?

Xu Feng’s confusion lingered as they continued walking. When Xuan Yang inquired about what he wanted to eat, Xu Feng was barely responsive, prompting the two husbands to decide on a quick and simple meal for him.

They thought it best to get him home for some much needed rest and save a proper restaurant outing for another time.

They wanted to treat Xu Feng to a meal that wasn’t had on a roadside. This might be the first experience for the village ger who had a clear love of food.

In contrast, Xu Feng and mechanically ate the buns they had chosen for him, still lost in thought.

’What could have triggered such dramatic reactions? Did they find out where I’d been today? That I wanted to get rid of them? That I enjoyed my shopping without them? That I thought Erlang was a better shopping partner? Or maybe they knew I bought too many books?’

It seemed that there were plenty of possibilities, and Xu Feng couldn’t figure out which one had struck a nerve with the two snakes. He didn’t want to engage in a fight or have either of them upset or anxious.

Nonetheless, he didn’t forget to buy extra buns and rice cakes for Si and San on their way back to the carriage. Although the girls had most likely already had dinner, these treats would serve as delightful snacks for them later.

Xu Feng was reassured that their kitchen would now be fully stocked, and their cellar was well maintained, reducing his worries about their household needs.

As they neared the carriage, Erlang acted quickly and took the bundle from Xuan Jian’s arms. He darted towards the back of the carriage to begin arranging the goods they had bought.

One side of the carriage was already filled with Xu Feng’s purchases from the day, and fitting in the last few items required a bit of strategic rearranging. Xu Feng couldn’t help but admire Erlang’s efficiency.

In that moment, a mischievous idea struck Xu Feng.

He had used a playful trick in the carriage earlier, and it had yielded excellent results in lightening the mood.

While he didn’t expect the same trick to work as well the second time, he decided it was worth a shot, and he was prepared to up the ante for a bit of fun.
