Chapter 83: Chapter 83 Experience the Malice of Human Hearts_1

"I don’t mind."

Shirley Miller pursed her lips, her mood subtly complex.

Carson Flores was attentive, but the trouble he mentioned—was it trouble for himself or for him?

Shirley Miller started the car, heading toward the hotel.

Carson Flores leaned back in the rear seat, asking in a casual tone, "Has anyone agreed to give you a loan?"

Shirley Miller bit her lip, "The vice president of the regional branch of Guangze Bank, Keegan Boyd, I’ve dealt with him before, but I don’t really like the man."

Carson Flores smiled, "He’s taken a liking to you?"

Shirley Miller hadn’t expected Carson Flores to be so perceptive and felt abruptly embarrassed; after all, in the eyes of the law, he was still her husband.

"He has expressed his interest in me, which I rejected. Because of this, I try to avoid Guangze Bank for any banking matters. Today, out of the blue, he called me, said a mutual banking friend told him I’ve been seeking loans everywhere, and asked if I needed help..."

Carson Flores’s lips curled into a wry smile, "A princess in trouble, and a knight rushing to the rescue, fairy tale, do you believe it?"

Shirley Miller’s face flushed slightly, "I have to try, I have no other choice now."

Carson Flores sighed, "Would you like to hear a man’s opinion?"

Shirley Miller said softly, "Are you suggesting he’ll use this situation to pressure me, accepting his advances means he’ll help me, and if I don’t, he’ll just stand by idly?"

Carson Flores laughed, "Not too dumb, at least you can think of that much."

Dumb?

Shirley Miller’s expression grew slightly annoyed: "That much?"

Carson Flores responded, "There are no secrets in these circles. Since Keegan Boyd knows you’re hitting walls everywhere seeking loans, he can easily find out why. Unless this Keegan Boyd has a very strong background that allows him to ignore external influences, his aid to you now would mean he’s an enemy of Supreme Sky Corporation."

"While there is indeed a possibility that he wants to help you regardless of external pressure because he likes you, that possibility is slim to none; after all, the costs are too high. At the end of the day, he’s just a vice president of a regional bank. Therefore, the most likely scenario is he’s part of the trap."

Shirley Miller’s eyes widened, "Keegan Boyd is also in cahoots with the Baker Family?"

Carson Flores smiled, "The Baker Family had Hailan Bank withdraw the company’s working capital. Supreme Sky Corporation sent out the word, cutting off your loan options. Just when you’re at your wit’s end, a vice president who’s fond of you suddenly appears, reaching out to you, claiming he can help. Doesn’t this all seem too coincidental?"

Shirley Miller was silent for a few seconds, "I’m just going to meet with him to see; if he makes any excessive demands, then I’ll refuse."

Carson Flores chuckled, "If I’m not mistaken, when we get to the hotel, I’ll be stopped at the door, and you’ll face him or several people alone. Be careful; if anything seems off, call me immediately."

Shirley Miller felt an inexplicable panic in her heart; Keegan Boyd might really have ill intentions!

But then again, if she was confident in him, why ask Carson Flores to accompany her on this trip?

Wasn’t it because she also felt uneasy?

Carson Flores noticed Shirley Miller’s demeanor but said no more.

Some things don’t feel real until they happen. Since he was already here and could ensure her safety, why not let her experience the dangers of human nature firsthand?

What about next time, or the time after that?

The car arrived at the hotel, and Carson Flores accompanied Shirley Miller upstairs to the reserved room at the hotel.

Four burly bodyguards stood at the door of the room, one of whom opened the door for Shirley Miller.

"Ms. Miller, please, Vice President Boyd has been waiting for a long time."

As Shirley Miller stepped through the door, a man reached out to stop Carson Flores: "Please wait outside."

Shirley Miller’s heart skipped a beat; Carson Flores’s prediction had come true.

The four men didn’t ask for Carson Flores’s identity, they just stopped him without a word.

Carson Flores glanced inside, three men, and a woman seemed to be in lively conversation.

"Ms. Miller, I’ll wait for you by the door."

Inside the room, Keegan Boyd had already stood up from his seat, smiling, "Ms. Miller, I’ve waited a long time for you, come, let me introduce you to a few friends."

With no choice but to leave her concerns behind, Shirley Miller put on a polite smile, "Vice President Boyd, long time no see."

After a brief exchange of greetings, they sat down, and the dinner began.

Although Shirley Miller made the excuse of not feeling well, she couldn’t escape, and reluctantly took the half glass of red wine that Keegan Boyd poured for her.

Asking for a favor, can you really afford not to drink a drop, to not give face?

Shirley Miller chatted with others, not noticing that there was already a bit of clear liquid in the glass Keegan Boyd was using to pour her wine, which immediately blended into the red wine the moment it was poured in.

The dinner atmosphere was pleasant, and Shirley Miller brought up the loan issue when it seemed appropriate.

Keegan Boyd chuckled, "Two hundred fifty million, right? What a coincidence, I just happen to have some loan quota left unfulfilled recently. The Miller Group has a low debt ratio and is rapidly developing, a prime candidate for credit. Loaning to the Miller Group eases our worries and also solves my loan quota problem here. It seems you have actually done me a big favor, Ms. Miller."
