Chapter 284: Chapter 284: Annoyingly Fussy Moves
Not long after, Nan Xin had Ou Bai sent back under strict surveillance.
Then, she returned to the bedside with a worried frown, placing her hands on her hips as she glared at Li Cheng, "Boss, I’m going to tell you the truth, if you don’t wake up soon, I might just switch my allegiance to someone else."
The tent was engulfed in silence.
Nan Xin bit her lip and persisted, "Li, aren’t you afraid I’ll run off with someone else? I’m very much in demand."
These words, under normal circumstances, Nan Xin wouldn’t dare to utter a single one.
Five minutes later, she sat down on the chair in defeat, looking at Li Cheng’s unconscious face and slowly lowering her eyelashes.
She must have become delusional, actually trying to use reverse psychology to wake him up.
And everything she said was about her; perhaps Li Cheng didn’t care at all.
Nan Xin cleared her throat, her gaze shifting to his rough fingers.
After hesitating for a while, she wrapped her trembling fingertip around his index finger, whispering softly, "If you really die, who will apply medicine on my wounds, and your precious one is also waiting for your call. Please wake up soon, okay...?"
The response to her plea was still the overwhelming silence of the room.
Nan Xin felt particularly bitter, and thoughts of killing Ou Bai churned ceaselessly in her mind.
Suddenly, inspiration struck her, and she took out her phone from her pocket, quickly flipping through her photo album in search of something.
In a moment, in a hidden folder in the album, she found a video.
It was from a few months ago when the Border Factory had secured a weapon order from a foreign organization; everyone was happy, so they lit a bonfire near the factory to celebrate that night.
This video, which she had kept hidden for a long time, captured Li Cheng’s lively figure as he was teased and forced to drink by his men.
Nan Xin’s eyes grew brighter.
Shortly after, she stepped out of the tent again, whispered a few words to her subordinates, and urged, "You must find it within two hours."
"Yes, Sister Xin."
...
Meanwhile, Li Qiao waited in the hallway for a while, seeing no activity on her phone, she returned to the private room.
Upon hearing the door open, Qiu Huan, who had been puffing away at his cigarette, immediately sat up straight and asked, "Miss, did you phone your brother?"
Li Qiao clutched her phone, sitting down calmly and shaking her head, "I just went to the restroom."
Qiu Huan: "..."
He bit the cigarette holder, looking vexed as he exhaled a puff of white smoke.
Meanwhile, Shang Yu glanced at Li Qiao from the corner of his eye, subtly arching an eyebrow without saying a word.
Li Qiao looked at him innocently and, when Qiu Huan wasn’t paying attention, winked at him.
Qiu Huan didn’t notice these small exchanges between the two.
He rubbed his forehead, sighing and muttering, "That cargo is for our partners, if it gets delayed any further, my business deal might be destroyed, and so will my reputation.
Miss, what can your brother do to make this go smoothly for me? Name the price, and I’m willing to pay."
Uttering these words, Qiu Huan felt as though his heart was bleeding.
No matter how much he had calculated, he had not anticipated problems with his goods at the border.
Unfortunately, that godforsaken place was Li San’s territory.
The influence of the South Sea’s power wasn’t something that could be infiltrated overnight.
Fucking headache.
At that moment, Li Qiao lowered her gaze and took a sip of tea, "Li San isn’t short of money."
Qiu Huan pursed his lips and nodded earnestly while inwardly scoffing: Sure, your brother isn’t short of money, he’s short of sense.
The ensuing crab feast tasted bland in Qiu Huan’s mouth, like chewing wax.
In such a frustrating and tragic moment, he still had to endure the mushy gestures of the two opposite him.
For instance, right now, Shang Yu picked up a fresh crab leg from the plate, but instead of handing it directly to Li Qiao, he went the extra mile to dip it in the sauce for her before placing it on her dinner plate.
As if Li Qiao didn’t have hands of her own.
Looking at the young lady, she ate leisurely and, when she saw the crab leg coming her way, she puffed her cheeks and frowned, "I can’t eat anymore."
Qiu Huan then glanced at Shang Yu, only to see the man put down his chopsticks and patiently turned his head to coax her, "Have one more piece."
Go to hell with the whole crab feast!
With a "snap", Qiu Huan threw down his chopsticks and stood up, heading straight for the door.
He had held it in for too long.
He walked all the way to the entrance and did not hear anyone asking him to stay.
So, the moment he stepped out of the private room, Qiu Huan found an excuse, "I’m going to the restroom."
The two people inside the room said in unison, "Mhm."
Qiu Huan turned and left.
Li Qiao looked at the partially closed door, waited a moment, and when she heard the footsteps fading away, she put down her chopsticks and looked at Shang Yu with a somewhat resigned tone, "My brother didn’t take his phone with him; I’ll ask him about it later."
At that, Shang Yu nodded slightly, his gaze on Li Qiao intense and ink-like, "Mhm, don’t force it."
She certainly wouldn’t. Li Qiao pressed down the obscure emotions in her heart, feeling that something was a bit off.
But she had no choice but to wait for Li San to call her back to ask for details.
After a few seconds of silence, Shang Yu spoke in a deep voice, "Have you scheduled your trip to Parma?"
Li Qiao leaned lazily against the back of her chair, "I plan to ask for leave after the graduation ceremony on Friday, from Academician Jiang."
She didn’t want to miss the graduation ceremony, which would happen only once.
Shang Yu acknowledged her response, then turned his eyes to Li Qiao’s fair cheek and brushed it with the back of his hand, "Let me know in advance when you work out the timing."
"Mhm, I know."
Li Qiao’s mouth curved up slightly, and then she turned her body, leaning her shoulder against the back of the chair as she looked at Shang Yu with eyes full of interest, "Do you think I’ll run into Shang Qiongying when I go to Parma?"
The man’s hand caressing her cheek paused, and he raised his eyebrows with interest, "Why are you suddenly asking about her?"
Li Qiao pondered for a moment, her eyes sparkling, "I’m just curious about what the deputy chairwoman of the Medical Research Council is really like."
At her words, a chilling gleam flickered in Shang Yu’s eyes. He took a cigarette from the pack, twirled it between his fingers, and after a pause, he curved his lips playfully, "You will meet her. The family called her and Shang Fu back to Parma two days ago."
Li Qiao glanced at him, the laughter in her eyes growing deeper, and she began to look forward to it.
Before long, Qiu Huan returned.
It seemed as though he had washed his face, and his mood had settled quite a bit.
After he entered, he picked up a napkin from the table and wiped the droplets from his chin, about to speak, when Li Qiao’s phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID, she didn’t even say hello but stood up and walked straight out of the room.
Qiu Huan was stunned and feeling somewhat confused, "Is it Li San?"
Shang Yu ignored him, lighting his cigarette and gazing thoughtfully into the distance.
Once outside, Li Qiao answered the call.
"Qiaoqiao, what’s going on?"
Li Qiao furrowed her brows as she held up the phone, the wind howling through the handset, making the surrounding noise so loud she could barely make out Li San’s voice.
She frowned and briefly explained the situation, then she heard the roar of an engine through the phone, and afterward the other party said, "I know, don’t worry about it, just do as I say."
Then the call ended.
Everything seemed to make sense, yet it was inexplicably odd.
Whether it was the other party’s attitude or tone, it sounded no different from Li San.
