Chapter 96: Do not take her name in front of me!
Pausing in taking a sip of his third drink of the night or maybe it was the tenth, Cian stared at the figure that seemed to have walked through the door of the pub and his brows furrowed as he looked at the figure in front of him. " What is he doing here?"
Dominic raised his head as he looked towards the guy who just walked in and blinked his eyes slowly before cursing, " Oh damn, what is that guy even thinking coming here after what he has done to you?" Just as Cian placed his drink on the bar and was all set to go and question the man who just walked through the door of the pub when he literally had no right to be in this place or anywhere near him when Dominic pulled him back. " Oh, you are not going to fight with him all right? Don’t forget that you are no longer the ace killer of the guild but the consort of the dragon Queen, do you really want to get in a fight with an aqrabuamelu?"
Cian turned his head to look at Dominic with a slow turn as if asking are you out of your mind when the latter raised his hands in submission and said, " You need to think carefully whether getting in a fight with that man is really worth it or not? I mean you can get in a brawl if that’s what you want but then the Queen will know what kind of man you really are, aren’t you hiding that you are a member of the guild?"
He hated to agree that Dominic was right, it wasn’t worth getting into a fight with the scorpion guy and raising the suspicions level of his mate to another degree or letting her know the fact that his original intention for getting close to her was assassinating her. So, he slipped back up on the stool but just because he wasn’t in any mood to get in trouble that didn’t mean that the latter shared the same intention as him.
Oozing menace and not in an oh-so-sexy way, the scorpion guy made way towards Cian who cocked his brow up when the guy fixed a dark, poisonous look at him that made Cian and Dominic realise that the guy was here asking for trouble even if they wanted to avoid it.
The guy came to a halt in front of Cian making sure that he wasn’t stepping into his personal space with a real dead posture and an amicable smile. Smart but Cian wasn’t the one to forget old grudges and he sure as hell wasn’t going to forget what this man had made him feel and then the guy opened his mouth to say something but Cian made no attempt to listen to him after the few sentences that came out of his mouth because he was worried that if he listened to another load of nonsense the guy had to say he might really rip his heart out.
" You are not listening to me are you, Cian?" The guy asked as he looked at Cian with his steel grey eyes that glimmer with mild annoyance.
Cian frowned as he looked at the man in front of him with an exasperated look. Did this guy knock his head and got amnesia, forgetting what he did to him? Apparently so. Well, that wasn’t his problem.
" I don’t know what gave you the idea that I would listen to anything that you have to say to me after what you did," he replied. " But then again, I do not have to answer your questions either because I have no idea about what you are talking about and I have no interest in the questions that you are asking me either." Plus it was hard to keep his claws to himself, did the guy not know that he was doing a major favour on him already by not shredding him to bits?
The guy sighed again. " I know that you are upset because of what Cynthia—-"
Cian moved faster than the wind as he knocked the man to the ground with a kick to the guts, his move must have taken the guy by surprise because no way, Cian would have ever been able to knock a guy that was twice his size with all muscles so easily. But he didn’t care about it just as he didn’t care about the silence that has spread all over the pub, he peered down at the man who was clutching his guts and glaring daggers at him before snarling, " Do. Not. Take her name in front of me got it? And just for the record, I have no idea where she is or with whom, so do me a favour and get out of my hair."
Done speaking, Cian blew out an upward breath making his bangs lift before he swept out of the pub ignoring Dominic’s calls to stop. This has to be the shittiest night of his life, seriously, he came here to switch his bad mood to good not to make it bad but that idiot Benny just had to make things worse for him, what the hell did he mean by asking him about Cynthia of all people? Why did it matter to him that she has been missing for weeks? Does he look like he cares even as little as the fraction of the nail of his pinky? He should be asking all those guys she has been with after doing the worst possible thing to him.
He shook his head to clear his thoughts of Cynthia and Benny when the siren in him huffed with annoyance causing his feathers to puff up. His siren always got in a super foul mood whenever Cynthia’s name was mentioned and Cian didn’t blame him, the way that woman had f*cked them over was no joke.
Nearing the horse carriage that he has drove here from the palace, he unlocked the door with a magic key but didn’t hop in —— because he was still in a super shitty mood and was battling the urge to go back to the guild and beat Benny up until he resembled nothing but a pile of shit when he felt a sharp prick on his neck. He went to slap the mosquito but then he felt three more sharp stings in quick succession on his calf, waist and arm —— he touched the spot on his neck and muttered a curse when he felt the cold, tiny metal needle. Darts.
Can this night get any more awesome than this?
