Chapter 71: Truth potion to woo his beloved

For a minute Bree was literally knocked off her wagon, it was the first time someone told her that it was okay to make a mistake and that they would be willing to correct those mistakes of hers, when she lived in her world, she did not only had to listen to her boss but also had to listen to her mother nagging where she would often complain that she wasn’t doing enough, it was annoying as hell.

And the pressure that Bree had to live with there was something that she never wanted to explain, it was no in fact no surprise that she started to have anxiety attacks but even then her parents never understood anything, if anything they thought that she was just creating random stories to make them look bad and then cue in another lecture that would trigger her anxiety.

Never did anyone tell her that they were there to catch her if she fell.

Perfection was what they all wanted and that was what she has been chasing all along. Never did she expect that she will be told these words that she most wanted to hear by a sadistic psychopath, someone has to be kidding her, all right?

But she has to admit it felt nice having someone say that they had her back even if they were just saying it out of selfishness.

" First get the person whose scent is lingering in the office but don’t be hard on them," said Bree after sucking in a calming breath and squeezing Ahmar’s hand, she didn’t know how he realised she wasn’t feeling confident about dealing with this situation but she was willing to lean on him at the moment. " There is a possibility that the person might not be involved in this case."

Her words took everyone by surprise, even Ahmar’s eyes widened slightly before he started to recalculate what he has been thinking about till now.

" What do you mean by that, your majesty?"Kevin asked sounding a bit confused, the scent of the person was their biggest clue if they were to take out this one clue as well then what do they have left then?

" As you said, you sensed the traces of Dark magic right?" said Bree as she traced circles on the back of Ahmar’s hand unconsciously in her nervousness. God, it was so hard to fake a confident front when all she wanted was to hide! " If the person can use dark magic, then does it make sense for them to leave their scent behind? Couldn’t they just have taken care of it? I am pretty sure that if they wanted they could have easily taken care of it, so why was it still lingering in the room? What if they deliberately faked their scent and wanted us to throw off their trail?"

" But it’s impossible to fake a person’s scent, your majesty," said Dion at once every shifter had their own scents and no matter how much they tried they cannot just fake it, even if they wanted. It was like a brand mark, never to be faked or changed.

" And it is impossible for anyone to raise an army of undead either, Dion," said Bree as she thought about the problem carefully. " You are forgetting that we are dealing with a dark magic user here, if we make the slightest bit of mistake while dealing with it, who knows how many innocent people will be punished for no reason."

Kevin and Dion exchanged a look with each other, though they understood what the Queen was trying to say, they still felt like she was thinking too much. How can a shifter’s scent be faked even the late prince couldn’t do something like that!

Bree could sense that they didn’t seem to be believing her, so she sighed and said, " I am not saying that you guys trust me but there is no need for us to not be careful right?"

Then she turned to look at Ahmar and asked, " Is there any truth potion left in the army’s barracks?"

Truth potion, made from the tears of a Siren and brewed by the master of potions, it was a rare thing that even the army used after thinking twice.

" There is," said Ahmar peering down at Bree. " I have left a little truth potion from the last time and at the moment it can suffice, I think."

Bree nodded before turning to Kevin and said, " Go and bring that vial of truth potion, we will use it now and see whether my hunch is right or not."

" But your majesty, the truth potion is really hard to make, if we use this batch we will be using up the last bit of what is left," said Kevin, he wasn’t lying. The last time when they captured the assassins of the country, the Dragon Queen has captured —— they had to use the truth potion to get them to confess from which organisation they belonged and who sent them, if they use the truth potion now, then wouldn’t it be considered a waste?

" Just do as she is telling you, Kevin." Ahmar looked at Kevin and ordered him using his authority as the General of the army. " If the truth potion is out of stock then go and ask the Testa family to send another batch of siren’s tears." Then he turned his head to look at Bree and dotingly said, " Don’t worry about it, if there is a shortage of the potion, we can always make some more."

Kevin looked at his senior who was using an extremely rare item to woo his beloved and felt his right eye twitch. ’ Make some more? Do you even know the price of a small vial of siren’s tears? It’s twelve hundred ernels! At least think about the budget allocated to the Royal Army before you start dishing order!’

[ Ernels = gold coins]

But even though Kevin had a myriad of things to complain about, he still bowed and pleasantly said, " As you wish, General."
