Chapter 70: I will be there to catch you if you fall
Leon Dragniere, the book didn’t shed much light on this character but it was the typical dog blood drama as Bree tried to remember it. The Queen and Leon shared the same father but they didn’t have to share the same mother, Queen Brianna’s mother was the overthrown Empress who was secretly cursed in the middle of the night, no one ever found out who did it but the suspicion was directed towards the third consort who was a witch and the mother of the only son and a could be heir of the throne, Leon Dragniere.
Because she wasn’t the Empress, her son wasn’t a part of the competition for the throne thus when the Dragon Queen’s mother became incapable to act as an Empress, it was believed that the third consort did some sort of witchcraft to curse the Dragon Queen’s mother but then she became the Empress and even the Dragon Queen had to call her ’mother’ and give her the respect that she would have given her mother, so what can others say about the third consort?
The rumours died down at once and Leon who was the only son of the previous Emperor quickly rose to the candidacy of the throne because unlike the Dragon Queen he was a man and was more suited to be the ruler than the Dragon Queen who was a woman.
Men hate women ruling them and even more so if she were to become their Queen and the ruler without them having a chance to retaliate back. So, most of the court stood on the side of Leon and the Dragon Queen was almost shot out of the candidacy race but then again she was the heir who was taught how to be the ruler from the very start, so the Dragon Queen knew how to tackle the problem that was thrown at her.
Not only did she throw Leon out of the candidacy, but she also overthrew her father and locked the third consort up in prison. Of course, she was cursed by all the mates of her father, and even her mother who was lying in bed ——poisoned with a curse blamed her daughter for committing such a treacherous act.
The Dragon Queen never regretted her actions, in her eyes what she did was the right thing to do. Her father being a debaucher left a myriad of heirs after him and she had to take care of each one of them one by one but none proved as sticky and annoying as Leon, this half-brother of hers.
After being chased out of the Royal family, it was said that he invoked an army of undead with his dark magic and almost ruined the Empire with his actions. The Queen had to spend several months at war, making sure that no one died, because every dead soldier of hers would become Leon’s soldier if he died ——- months became years and the war went on for a very long time.
It was with sheer willpower and strength that the Queen was able to catch her brother and then executed him. Only then did the war stop and all the traces of the dark magic were gone.
" If the traces of dark magic are found now then it can only mean one thing and that’s—- the followers of the late prince Leon are still at large and their actions of marking the throne," Dion trailed off as he shook his head. " Whatever this is, it’s horrible. If the late prince’s followers are still active then we are going to be in trouble, the Empire still hasn’t forgotten what happened years ago, your majesty. Marks of disaster and carnage haven’t even wiped clear yet and now this...what are we supposed to do?"
Bree also felt like things were becoming serious, she might be possessing the body of the Dragon Queen but she wasn’t the Queen, she didn’t have a natural charm or the charisma of the leader, even now Bree was having a hard time controlling the powers of Saphira, if things went out of control then what was she supposed to do then? How will she lead her army and the Empire when she wasn’t a leader?
A sense of panic rose in her heart but just as she was close to hyperventilating, a hand reached out to hers and caught her wrist. Surprised, she looked up only to see Ahmar looking down at her.
" Don’t worry," he said soothingly. " We did find the traces of dark magic but they were really weak, only strong enough to open the lock of your office’s door. If the followers of the late prince are still at large then they are not strong enough yet to start a war again, if anything this is a good thing. In their hurry, they made their presence known and now we can hunt them down one by one, isn’t that great?"
He paused and then smiled at her, or at least that’s what she thought he was doing because his lips were stiff as ever since he wasn’t used to smiling in front of others. " Even if there is a war, I will protect you with my life, so you don’t have to worry."
Bree didn’t know why but with Ahmar’s promise, the anxiety in her heart dropped a few inches and she was able to breathe with ease again. She swallowed down the lump that was blocking her throat and nodded, " I believe you," and with her heart finally a bit calm, she looked at Dion and Kevin who were looking at her like they were waiting for her to say something or to give them any instructions that might be useful to them.
She wasn’t a leader but Bree knew that she needed to learn how to cope, even if it was unfair to her, she had no choice. She couldn’t return to her world even if she tried, if a leader was what they want then she had to lead them even if she was worried that she was going to make mistakes.
Clenching her fists she tried to unhinge her jaw when Ahmar raised his hand and placed it on her lower back and whispered in her ear, " Go ahead, I will catch you if you make a mistake, Bree."
P.s: is it wrong if I want a Ahmar in my life ? Lol
