Chapter 72: More action than me
Chapter 72: More action than me
" Where are you taking me?"
" Hey!"
" At least tell me, what’s going on before dragging me from my work like this!"
Bree raised her head when she heard the feminine voice of the person who was struggling to stop the Knight from bringing her to the office and her eyes narrowed slightly, just as she was thinking about what the possibilities were now, the door of her office was opened a red-haired laundry maid was pushed in by the knight.
" I have brought her, your majesty." The knight bowed as he let go of the redhead maid and bowed to Bree in respect.
" Rise," said Bree as she took a long sniff and sure enough smelled the same gooseberries and lemongrass scent that was lingering in the office earlier on. She took a look at the maid who turned white upon hearing the words ’your majesty,’ the latter looked quite confused as if she couldn’t understand why she was brought to the same place as the Queen but she still bowed while trembling to her boots.
" I...I greet the sun o..of the Empire," said the maid with a formal ninety-degree bow, from the tremors of her voice it was quite clear that she was scared while being in the presence of the Queen.
" You may rise," said Bree as she kicked off the table that she was leaning against before asking, "What’s your name?"
The redhead maid stood straight and stuttered, " Re...Rebecca, Rebecca, is my n..name your majesty, I am a commoner so I...I don’t have a l..last name."
The commoners were not allowed to have a last name even the female lead Harley didn’t have one but then who knows what she did, but Yakov agreed to her request of giving her family a last name, raising their status from mere commoners to someone worthy and respected.
" I see, come sit Rebecca," said Bree as she smiled at Rebecca and tipped her chin at the tea table that was sitting in the corner of the room.
Rebecca must have been stunned by what Bree said because her eyes widened to an inhumanly impossible degree and then she gasped, " P..Pardon, your m..majesty?"
" Have a seat," said Bree as she walked to the tea table and took a seat on the chair opposite the one she was asking Rebecca to sit on. " I need to have a nice little chat with you, Rebecca."
The Queen asking for a chat was much scarier than her ordering to kill somebody right away, Rebecca too felt like she was being teased before her neck got chopped. But she still had to follow the order of the Queen even if all she wanted was to turn around and run but there was nothing that she could do except follow the Queen and sit on the small and dainty chair that seemed to be filled with pins and needles.
" D...Did I mak..make a mistake your majesty?" asked Rebecca after taking her seat on the chair, she couldn’t think of any other reason why the Queen of the Empire and mothers of all dragons, will call her out of nowhere. She was nothing but an unworthy maid, who didn’t even get the chance to wash the dirty laundry of the Queen! So, her status jumping from being a maid who might go unnoticed by the Queen, to sitting in front of the Queen was something that Rebecca could not get used to no matter what.
"It’s nothing," said Bree as she poured two cups of tea and slid one cup to Rebecca. " I have a few questions that I need to ask you, you don’t need to be alarmed" she added when she saw Rebecca blanch. "It’s a simple process in due to what happened everyone will have to go through it one by one."
" Wh...What happened your majesty?" Don’t tell her that stupid Harley complained to the consorts about her—- no that wasn’t right, even if Harley complained to the consorts then she would have been called by the consorts, not the Queen. So, what was going on?
" Its—-" Bree paused and then smiled at Rebecca before she said, " First drink some tea, you look a little pale."
’ I want to leave not drink tea your majesty!’ cried Rebecca inwardly but she still picked the cup up and under the furtive yet expectant glances of others drank a sip.
Bree was careful enough to take a proper look at whether or not Rebecca drank the tea and when she was sure Rebecca indeed took a sip, she carefully sipped her own tea and asked, " Rebecca if you don’t mind me asking, where were you last night?"
" L...Last night?" Rebecca’s voice notched a pitch higher and Kevin, as well as Dion, were certain that they caught the right person but that was until Rebecca continued and said, " I was at the laundry house... the .. the work ran late and I returned with my friends to the maid’s quarters."
Bree sipped her tea and under her pressure, Rebecca sipped her tea as well, there was no way she could have refused to drink the tea, the Queen poured her right?
" Did you go somewhere in between? Like, sneak off to somewhere?" Bree continued asking as she looked at Rebecca who licked her lips and then a red flush crept up to her neck before she answered, " I went to see Sir James, he and I are together and we do meet sneakily sometimes to——" Rebecca clamped her hand on her mouth as she stopped in time. Her eyes staring at the Queen wildly.
" I am sorry, your majesty!" She got to her feet and bowed immediately. " How dare I say such vulgar words in the presence of the Queen!"
" Ahem," Bree cleared her throat and then raised her head as she said, "It’s all right, you may leave now."
Since they already knew that Rebecca was telling the truth and from her confession, it seemed she was anywhere but the office since she was feeling frisky last night. So, there was no point in stopping her and asking her to answer more questions.
Rebecca left the office with a confused expression on her face while Ahmar walked to Bree and whispered while shaking his head, " Even a little maid is having more action than me, what a shame."
Bree: "..."
