Chapter 68: Don’t want to quarrel with a mummy
Bree then turned to look at the other minister who has been chirping by Duke Murphy’s side ever since the beginning before she smiled and said, " And you Count Bailey, I do not have to remind your actions now, do I have to? Even if I don’t then you should at least know what you have been doing all along? Just a few months ago, you asked the Royal court to section you a big amount saying that you wanted to rebuild the monastery and that you wanted to help those who are sleeping on the streets by making a sanctuary for them, so that they won’t have to stay on the streets, so what happened to that?"
Just like Duke Murphy, Count Bailey was immediately shut off. Though he was not like the Duke pocketing all the money, he did pocket most of it, in fact, the money was enough to build two sanctuaries but because he took a huge chunk out of it, even the one sanctuary that was supposed to be built by now was left halfway since he didn’t want to fork out anymore sum of money for it. His original intention to drive this ruckus against the Queen was to get a load of money for himself as well.
When the two trouble makers didn’t say anything, she turned to look at the rest of the ministers who lowered their heads one by one.
Seeing them act like this, Bree sneered, "It’s not that you all are worried about the people of your territory, in fact, you all cannot care any less about your people than this, the only reason you are so upset is that you cannot have a piece of the pie like Duke Cilantro and that’s what’s making you upset, isn’t it? You wanted a huge sum of money to be allocated for you as well and now that you cannot have it you are making trouble for me in court, isn’t it? This is not about your people or your territory, it’s about either if you are going to eat then we will eat too and if we don’t get to eat then you don’t get to eat as well."
" Your majesty, you are insulting us, this is not our intention."
" That’s right your majesty, you cannot say such a thing to us——"
" I do not care about how you all are going to interpret my words," said Bree loudly overriding all the opposition that was happening in front of her. " If you want to go on a strike then you are more than welcome to, but do remember if I don’t see you all working then I will not sit back and let you all enjoy the benefits of the titles that you are wearing, either you work worth the position you are sitting on, or you relinquish the seat because I can assure you that if I were to throw you out now, then there are many who will be eager to replace you."
She stood up from her throne and coldly swept a gaze at the ministers. " Time and world never wait for anyone, you want to cause trouble, go ahead but don’t think that I will play along with you all. One week that’s all it’s going to take me to get rid of the trouble that’s sitting on top of my head but if you don’t work for a week then you don’t need to come back to the Royal court anymore, just pack your bags and be prepared to be thrown out of your territory, because I don’t have any need for useless people who only knows how to gobble the money of the Royal family and do nothing!"
With that she strode out of the throne room, ignoring the loud clatter of the ministers behind her.
" That was amazing, your majesty," said Dion as they strolled down the corridor that led to her office. " I have never seen you deal with those ministers so aptly before, in fact, every time they tried to contradict you, you will take out your sword and make one of their heads roll on the floor."
" Believe me, I wanted to." Bree wasn’t lying, she was someone who liked her peace and quiet even though she looked like she was a party girl. If someone asked her what she wanted to do on weekends then her answer would have been to stay at home and watch a cartoon movie but now that she was suddenly thrown into this mess, she felt like her head was going to explode from all the noise that she just stepped out of. " They act as if I do not understand a thing that’s going on in their heads, do they think I am that stupid?"
Dion chuckled as he followed after Bree. " They just believe that you are too young, your majesty. Compared to them who are in their hundreds and fifty you haven’t even crossed twenty-five years of your life, so of course, they will take it as if they are dealing with a newborn baby."
" Bunch of old geezers bullying a young girl, awesome," muttered Bree as she rolled her eyes. " I think we need to start a retirement program or something, if not I am going to make them headless chickens sooner or later."
" Retirement program? What’s that your majesty?" asked Dion sounding genuinely curious.
"It’s a program where a certain person is allowed to work in a department for a limited period and then they have to leave their posts after reaching a certain age," explained Bree, though she didn’t want to make any major changes in the laws of this world that wasn’t hers, to begin with, but if she was going to stay here then she might as well make her stay comfortable. " Like once they reached the age of sixty they need to step out of their position and hand over their rights, in return they will get a reasonable amount as their salary till they die. I think we should introduce something like that or else I will have to quarrel with a two hundred year ole mummy in a few years. I do not want to look like that much of a bully."
"Pfft...cough, coff, cough,—— I think you are right, your majesty," Dion who almost laughed out immediately suppressed his laugh. " I also think that we should do something like that because the last time there was a minister who lived up to three hundred years and used to attend the court by letting his four sons carry his bed to the royal court."
