The Dragon Queen and her mates.
Chapter 46: Wicked side

Chapter 46: Wicked side

Just like that everyone paused, even Bree who was trying to struggle past Ahmar’s hold and looked down at him, she could only see the top of his head but she could feel his fear of her leaving him, as he held her tight. He was holding her close to him because he was afraid of never seeing her again and this was when it hit her —— back then she was too eager to save her life that she only cared about breaking the bond, she saw the impatience and stubbornness of her mates but what she couldn’t see was just how anxiousness of their beasts who lived and bled for Saphira, who was their mate.

Ahmar’s beast fear must have originated from there on, which was why he was holding her tight as if he wanted to burn her existence in his.

Bree breathed in and out, she took the mating bond as something simple as marriage vows that can be broken at will but as she felt Ahmar’s beast’s fear, she realised it was more than that.

When Bree didn’t say anything, Xander’s eyes dimmed as he pulled Ahmar away. " Let go of her majesty, master... her time is far more precious than your life."

" Xander you—-" Dion took a step forward but Bree raised one of her hands to stop him, she knew that Xander was suffering as well, just as she was the reason for Ahmar’s existence, being Ahmar’s aide—— Ahmar’s existence was the sole reason that Xander existed. If she was being honest, she was a bit impressed by Xander’s loyalty towards Ahmar, if he wanted he could have broken the vow because it was different from a mating vow and could have changed his master at once but instead he was here, watching Ahmar weaken and suffering through this agony of losing his master.

He was determined to die if Ahmar was to die which was why he didn’t fear offending —— his queen because he knew that if Ahmar died then he will follow suit as well.

"It’s alright, Dion." Bree didn’t take offence at Xander’s words instead she turned to look at Ahmar who was hugging her and softly coaxed him, " Ahmar, you can go to sleep when you wake up I will be here, right next to you."

" You promise?" asked Ahmar as he narrowed his eyes in suspicion.

" I promise," said Bree as she patted Ahmar’s head, maybe he sensed the sincerity in her voice because Ahmar let go of her waist and lay back on the bed but even then he didn’t let go of her hand. By interlocking her fingers with his, he made sure that she wouldn’t be able to leave him, only then did he close his eyes.

After Ahmar’s beast went to sleep, Bree sighed in relief before turning to pick up the jug of water next to her only to realise that it was completely empty. And that wasn’t all, the jug even had spiders weaving spider webs inside it —— a tired sigh escaped her lips as she turned to look at Xander and asked, " When was the last time this jug was filled?"

" When you last visited my lord," answered Xander with a sullen look, apparently still upset about what happened with his master.

Bree of course didn’t remember when was the last time the dragon Queen came to see Ahmar but she was smart enough to not say it out loud, that will only make Xander explode. She could almost imagine his reaction ——

’ What her majesty forgot about when was the last time, she came to see my master? Well of course her majesty will forget with all those gigglos you were seeing where will you remember my master?’

Which was why she decided to stay silent no matter what went through her head. Instead, she turned to Dion and said, " Can you bring some water, Dion? I am thirsty after running around so much."

However, Dion didn’t take the jug from her instead he turned to look at Xander and sneered, " Go and get her majesty some water, leech."

" Her majesty asked you to bring water, you crazy cat." Xander shot back almost immediately but Dion was prepared as he smiled and snorted. " But I am not used to the second consort’s palace, are you sure you will let me roam around in the palace? What if I stumble on another secret passage?"

Bree didn’t know which secret passage Dion was talking about but it certainly worked, because Xander though scowling, snatched the jug from her and then stomped out of the room while muttering about how he was going to make cat roast one of these days.

" What secret passage are you talking about Dion?" asked Bree as she turned to look at her aide who looked different than usual and raised her brow. " Why is it that I haven’t heard about this secret passage that has been built in my second consort palace?"

" Its nothing, your majesty," answered Dion with a patient smile, then he looked around and whispered, " A few days ago there was a rumour circulating in the royal palace that I was the one who found out the secret plan of the consorts, I do not know how this rumour came into existence but I just let it fester and once in a while use it on the aides of the consorts, I only wanted to try it without any hope but surprisingly it worked, all of them started to do my bidding without questioning anything."

Bree’s eyes went wide as she whistled. " That’s smooth but aren’t you worried that the consorts will try to harm you? After all, you are practically announcing that it was you who blew their plan up."

" Of course not your majesty, because I know that no matter how much the consorts want to kill me they can’t... because I am the aide of the heir of the throne. Unless they want to evoke your fury, your majesty they will stay away from me." Then he paused as he thought about something and added, " And what’s more, I can rein in the consorts’ aides without any hitch."

" You are really smart, Dion... I must say that I never thought you had such a wicked side."

" Thank you for the praise, your majesty."
