Chapter 45: She will leave if I let go.
Bree was stunned when a hand reached out and caught her wrist, stunned she turned around and looked at Ahmar who was looking at her with such a raw vulnerability that he nearly knocked all the air out of her lungs. She hasn’t seen that expression on his face like ever —- and she was pretty certain that there was no mention of something like this in the book either, throughout the book, Ahmar was portrayed as someone who was cool, calm and totally in control of his emotions, it was often mentioned that this was due to some childhood trauma that he received when he was young and hardly ever let anyone close to him.
So, for him to show such an expression was something she never expected. There were no fake smiles, no teasing glint in his eyes just pure fear and dependency as he stared at her.
" Don’t go, Don’t go, Saphira," said Ahmar as he got to his elbows, ignoring the way his wounds stretched and started bleeding as he tried to stop. " Don’t leave me, please, it hurts."
That was when Bree noticed that his eyes weren’t just red—- they were glowing like he was on the verge of shifting to his true form but couldn’t because he was too weak.
" What... What’s going on?" asked Bree as she stared at Ahmar who was holding her so tightly like he wanted to intertwine their wrists together. She has never seen something like this before and she didn’t know how to deal with him, she was used to his cold and dominant front but this... this vulnerable expression and soft voice that was free of any hidden intentions, she wasn’t used to this and didn’t know what she was supposed to do, so she turned to look at Dion and Xander who looked just as stunned as her.
" Maybe second consort’s beast broke through the surface since he is calling for Saphira instead of you, your majesty," said Dion knowledgeably as he looked at Ahmar. " It must be because of the lack of the human counterpart’s consciousness that he was able to break through the surface."
Suddenly, being told that she was being held by a beast whose true form was so dangerous that every drop of blood will be sucked from her body without her even making a move, Bree felt like she was being bullied...what was this but Karma! She caused Ahmar to lose so much blood and now she was caught by his beast.
Unlike how vampires were described in movies and romantic books—— the vampires of this world were considerably different. They were charming and beautiful, yes but that was until they shifted to their true form and gave their beast who lived within them —— a beast that looked like a devil, with skin as dark as molten darkness, glowing red eyes and fangs that were big enough to puncture someone’s neck with just one snap. With fangs that big, their victims didn’t even get a chance to fight and lost their lives in one go.
Given that she was being held by a monster that dangerous, she couldn’t help but shiver.
However, as soon as the goosebumps on her skin broke—— Ahmar’s beast let go of her hand and with a pout looked down and nervously clenched his fingers. " You don’t like me, Saphira?"
While saying this he even used his baby doe-like eyes—- of course if one could ignore the glowing red, then surely they would be able to see past the danger and find him adorable.
And maybe Bree simply looked to play the daredevil that she actually found Ahmar’s beast a bit cute. Or maybe it was her guilt working hard to trip her because after seeing that expression on his face she couldn’t bring herself to say that she disliked him. " Of course not, I do like you, it’s just that you are bleeding so much that I was worried——"
Her words were cut off when Ahmar’s beast suddenly pounced on her and wrapped his arms around her waist before exclaiming, "It’s great that Saphira doesn’t hate me, he always says that our mate doesn’t want us, see he was wrong, you want us!"
All her words got stuck in her throat as she looked at Ahmar who was holding her tight as she turned to look at her aide who was looking confused, joyful and a bit offended. Maybe it was because Ahmar was holding her a bit too carelessly——
" Master what are you doing!??" demanded Xander as he tried to pull Ahmar back on the bed. " You are hurt, if you move so much then you will pull your wounds open again, you are poisoned by the poison of basilisk! You have to lay down and rest, not move willy nilly."
Dion who watched Xander scold Ahmar’s beast felt his lips twitch. " You sure are gutsy when your master is unconscious, can you do something like this to him when he is conscious?"
" Shut you damn crazy cat," snapped Xander as he looked at Dion and glared at him hatefully. " Do you think this is fun, huh? I would like to see you try doing the same!"
Dion turned to look at Bree who narrowed her eyes and then turned back to Xander before saying, " You win this one but don’t think that I am giving in to you, you leech."
" Alright, if you two are done, can you get him off me?" said Bree as she pointed at Ahmar who was now rubbing his face on her abdomen while sniffing her like a dog. " I need him off, lest one of you want to take care of that." She motioned to the bulge in Ahmar’s pants and that was enough to make the two men get on their feet and try their best to pull Ahmar off her. But the latter was just as strong maybe it was because he was more dominant than the two combined because he didn’t let go of her waist.
" Master, you have to let go!" said Xander, sounding anxious as he felt the temperature of his master drop to freezing cold degrees. " You will hurt yourself."
" But Saphira will leave if I let go!"
