Chapter 44: Bleeding for her consort.

This was her fault, even if Bree didn’t want something like this to happen, the truth was that it has happened and she couldn’t just shirk responsibility by saying that it wasn’t her fault or how it wasn’t what she meant to do—— since she was the one who made the mistake then she would have to take responsibility as well.

" Can nothing be done to save him?" she asked as she turned to look at Kevin. Her mind told her to shut up and let that cruel and sadistic vampire to die but Bree couldn’t do it. In fact, she should have done it but she couldn’t, she couldn’t leave Ahmar to die... call her stupid for doing that but she wasn’t that cruel, she couldn’t just let a guy who was tortured because of her mistake die can she? So, this wrong she has to make it right, or else who knows how many nights she might spend feeling guilty if Ahmar was to disintegrate in front of her.

" I can," said Kevin with a complicated expression as he turned to look at Bree. " The Second consort has the blood of an omega and that is why his body is considerably weaker when compared to a full-blooded shifter that is why his organs are failing but if he were to get a vial of dragon blood——"

" Vice-general are you even listening to what you are saying?" said Dion as he looked at Kevin with eyes that were as wide as saucers. " You are asking for dragon blood? In the entire Empire, only her majesty is the one and only dragon left, are you asking for your Queen to bleed? Aren’t you, her loyal subject how can you even suggest such a method to save the life of the second consort?"

Kevin was stuck in a rock and hard spot as he sighed and answered Dion calmly, "It’s not that I am asking for this method because I want to avenge the second consort either, Sir Dion. The reapers used barbed whips dipped in the undiluted poison of a basilisk, and currently, only two anti-dotes are known for it —— one, phoenix’s tears and the second one is dragon blood, you tell me where will I get phoenix tears? In the entire Empire, there is no phoenix, even if there was a phoenix shifter, nothing is known about him or her, in that case, if we were to look for them, then we will simply be wasting time. That’s the only reason I suggested Dragon blood or else I wouldn’t have done it either and you know that."

" But still—-" Bree raised her hand when Dion tried to counterattack Kevin again, she knew that he was worried about her getting hurt and didn’t want to shed any blood but this was her mistake. Ahmar suffered so many injuries because she sent him to the black tower without learning what kind of place it was, since she was the one who caused him to get injured like this, it was only right that she treated him as well.

" So if I give you my blood, you will be able to create an antidote for him?" asked Bree

" I can as Caladrius this is something that I can do in a jiffy," Kevin answered at once.

Bree nodded as she walked towards Ahmar’s bedside cabinet and picked up the fruit knife that was sticking out of the apple and made a deep cut on the palm of her hand. A sharp sting shot through her body causing her to scrunch up her nose but Bree didn’t dare to shout or scream in pain, the Dragon Queen was supposed to be the strongest warrior in the Empire after Ahmar if she were to start crying because of a simple cut then she will definitely raise suspicions.

Though she still cursed like a sailor inwardly as she let the blood from her hand drip in the empty glass of water sitting next to the fruity bowl and grimaced ever so slightly.

Once the glass had enough blood to make an antidote, Bree dropped her hand that was snatched away by Dion who hurriedly wiped her palm with his handkerchief and nagged, " How could you be so excessive your majesty, you should have at least let me sanitised that dagger what if you get infected because of using a knife that wasn’t even washed properly?"

Bree let him nag as he wiped his hand and took the ointment that Kevin has offered before wiping the cut on her hand and applying the ointment. " You worry too much Dion, it’s going to heal in a jiffy... I can’t even feel the sting anymore."

As a pure-blooded dragon shifter, her healing was a lot faster when compared to other shifters who took a while to recover their strength.

Dion snorted as he continued to apply the ointment and only let Bree go when he was sure that every inch of her wound including some extra inches too was properly covered before turning to Kevin as he asked, " So, this will be enough to wake the second consort up right?"

Though he seemed to be asking, his expression was screaming ’ don’t you dare to ask any more blood for my Queen’.

Kevin stifled his smile and nodded as he picked up the glass and said, " This much will be certainly enough, I can assure you, Sir Dion." Then he stood up from his chair and bowed to Bree. " I will be heading to my quarters, once I am done making the antidote I will return and treat the second consort, until then please take care of him, if he feels any more pain do let me know because I have to adjust the concentration of the dragon blood according to his level of pain."

With that, he walked out of the room and left Bree, Dion and Xander alone—— Bree sensed the awkwardness that was settling inside the room and coughed before saying, " I think I will be leaving as well, when the second consort is awake, you can relay me about it, I will come to check up on him."

However, just as she turned around to leave someone caught her wrist and stopped her from leaving.
