Chapter 43: Xander’s rebellion.

"Is he all right?" Bree asked worriedly as she looked at Ahmar who was lying unconscious on the bed. When she saw him coming out of the black tower all bloody and bruised, she knew that his injuries were serious but she never thought that they were this serious—— for such a strong vampire like him to faint in front of her, Bree couldn’t help but worry. Just how bad Ahmar’s injuries really were that he actually fainted, she could have of course doubted that he was feigning weakness in front of her to gain sympathy from her but after listening to his words before he fell, she knew that his pride was too big for him to do something like this.

If he really wanted to gain sympathy from her, then he would have let his shields down and let her feel his pain but he didn’t instead he suffered all that pain alone and didn’t share an ounce with her. A man of such strong pride and ego, he would rather break his knees than feign sickness in front of her.

Kevin the caladrius pursed his lips as he examined Ahmar properly, earlier because of all the movements of the second consort, he couldn’t examine him properly but now that the latter was lying silently on the bed with a pained expression. Kevin was able to check up on all the vitals and was able to notice just how much damage the basilisk’s poison actually did to the body of the second consort. He looked at the Dragon Queen and with an expression that was a mixture of confusion and hesitancy, " My Queen, the second consort’s condition doesn’t look really good."

Bree frowned as she looked at Kevin. " What do you mean that his condition doesn’t look good? Aren’t you a Caladrius why don’t you heal him?"

Before Kevin could say anything Xander who was silently staring at Ahmar all along interrupted by somewhat rudely speaking, " Why is your majesty pretending to care about the second consort all of a sudden?"

" Sir Xander, watch your mouth!" Dion raised his voice as he looked at Xander who was defiantly looking at Bree. " You are too upset and don’t know what you are saying! Watch your tongue lest you want to lose it."

Xander snorted as he looked away and then continued to look at Ahmar but he didn’t take Dion’s suggestion instead he murmured, " Why? What did I say wrong?" He turned his head ever so slightly as he looked at Dion with eyes that were blazing red. " You are her majesty’s aide and you will naturally take her side no matter whether she is right or wrong but I am the second consort’s aide and just like how you are loyal to her majesty, I am loyal to the second consort no matter what happens, even if I was to lose my tongue today, I will still ask her majesty—— why is she is suddenly caring about my master when she is the reason that he is in this condition! If not for her, he wouldn’t be in this situation!"

He harshly wiped the tears that were flowing down his eyes and sniffed before turning to look at Bree. " I will admit that my master was wrong and he shouldn’t have made a mistake like that but you wronged my master first, your majesty! If you didn’t hurt him would he have taken such a step? He is a man of great pride, the strongest knight of the Empire being abandoned and cheated by his mate, do you think that a man of such strong pride can take a disrespect like that?" Xander swallowed hard and then he clenched his fists in his lap as he gritted out. " The punishment of betraying your mate is much more worse than death but my master didn’t do anything like that, I mean everyone knows about what happened to the Concubine who betrayed the previous King and yet you still——"

" Xander! How dare you mention that incident!" Dion shouted this time truly enraged as he stepped in front of Bree and glared at Xander. " You are getting past your limit! How can you mention the dragon Queen in the same breath as that lowly concubine? Have you lost your mind?"

" Yes, I have lost my mind!" Xander stood up from his chair while breathing heavily. " You would have lost your mind as well if you were in my shoes! My very existence exists for only one sake and that’s to protect my master! I swore my life to him, if a sword was to head his way then it would have to tear me apart before heading to my master but because of today’s matter, I had no choice but to watch my master getting hurt right in front of me and I couldn’t do anything! Do you know how helpless I felt? Even now I am suffering! It’s not just my master whose life is on the line here, Dion... if something happened to him then what am I supposed to do? My life would be meaningless! Because that’s the life of an aide, once we swear our loyalty to our masters then only death can break the bond between us and our masters, you know this too right, Dion? Then tell me if this was your master and you were in my shoes what would you have done?"

Bree’s eyes widened as she turned her head to Dion who has gone silent... Dion, he didn’t retort Xander doesn’t that mean that Xander was speaking the truth. She didn’t know about this matter, the book never mentioned that the relationship between an aide and their masters was so tightly bound... so, doesn’t it means that by putting Ahmar’s life in danger she has actually pushed Xander to an edge as well?

She clenched her fingers as she realised just what kind of tragedy she has committed because of her anger and pride. Bree licked her lips and then breathed heavily as she turned to look at Ahmar who was lying on the bed looking even paler than usual and felt a pang in her heart, this was not what she wanted so why in the world did this happen?
