Chapter 37: She wasn’t the scum woman!

" Like me huh?" Yakov chuckled lightheartedly as he picked the teapot and poured the steaming tea into two cups and pushed one of them in front of Bree. " I have never heard that before, to think that you would say that to me... but Your majesty, if you don’t mind... I would like to ask when did you ever know me properly?"

Bree didn’t say anything, because she knew that he was right. The Dragon Queen never cared about her mates which were one of the reasons they were attracted to Harley in the first place, unlike the Queen who treated them coldly and never spent any extra time except for sharing a bed with the four of them, Harley would treat them with all her heart, she would welcome them in her arms with a wide smile which was something that the Dragon Queen has never done before.

It was no wonder, they were so inclined toward Harley than their own mate. Who would like a cold face, emotionless woman when they could have someone like Harley was a lot more cute and full of warmth than the Dragon Queen.

She picked up the teacup that was sitting in front of her and took a sip from it before speaking. " You are right, I don’t know you well but at least I know that the Yakov I knew wouldn’t have planned to kill me." When a sharp glint flashed in his eyes, she raised a brow and set the teacup down. " Did you really think that I wouldn’t find out about your plans? I am the Queen and the ruler of this Empire this much is something I can do even without being in all my senses."

Yakov smiled as he picked a strand of fabric from the robe that was dangling over his knees and spoke, " I have to say that I underestimated my Queen, she really is as omnipresent as ever, to think you were able to find out about our plans with such an ease, sometimes I can’t help but think that the Queen is hiding something from me."

Her grip on the cup tightened as Bree looked at Yakov and raised a brow. " And what do you mean by this?" Though her heart was thudding against her chest, Bree still maintained a calm composure as she looked at Yakov. " Just because your plans didn’t work, I am hiding something from you? In the end, are you trying to victimise yourself? Oh, I couldn’t kill you because you were hiding something from me, is that the kind of scenario you are coming up with? In the end, I am the one in wrong?"

She paused as she looked at him and firmly added, " With four back-biting snakes in my backyard I have no choice but to keep a few cards to myself."

" A few cards huh?" mused Yakov and then before Bree could say anything else, he stood up suddenly and pressed against her chair—— caging her under his arms. " That’s the thing I am most worried about, you know killing you wasn’t a betrayal, your majesty. It was the last bit of feelings that I could summon for you. If not, I wouldn’t have thought of just killing you.... I would have done something worse for what you have done to me."

Bree’s skin flared as her dragon scales started to show, and then she was glowering at Yakov with a rage that she didn’t know she had in her. " First consort, do you have any idea what you are doing? You need to show some respect to your Queen. I might be your mate but I am the Queen first you cannot just say such outrageous words while doing something like this, you know that right?"

" Do you feel disrespected your majesty?" Yakov asked with his eyes full of mockery, as he pinched her chin despite feeling the sting in his fingers. Her skin was too hot for him to hold but his beast was urging him to touch her, have a bit of her warmth even if it meant getting his fingers burnt. " Have you ever thought how I felt when you were frolicking with those gigglos you found for yourself? You don’t right? You weren’t there, so you haven’t seen how people were pointing at my back, calling me a useless husband and mate who couldn’t even tame his wife... Mr pride as a dominant male was questioned every day for the last few months and yet you never showed me any pity... but now that I said something out of the line, you are angry enough to burn me?"

Yakov’s words were laced with anger and hurt as Bree looked at his eyes, the scent of blood and burnt flesh filled the room and only then did she look down and saw that Yakov’s skin was badly burnt.

Immediately, she calmed down and pulled away.

There was nothing she could have said against that, it wasn’t that Yakov was lying though there wasn’t much mention of the Dragon Queen and her audacious acts, there was indeed a small section where the author mentioned Yakov being badmouthed for not being able to rein his wife in even after being a dominant wolf. It was during this time that Yakov and Harley got closer to each other because Bree was the only one who stood up for Yakov after seeing his helplessness.

Though Bree was certain that Harley did that because the system asked her to do so, not because she wanted.

Looking awkward she turned her head away from his gaze, why was it that she was the one who has to pay for all the f*ck ups that the Dragon Queen made? Huh? She wasn’t the one who did all that did she? So why was it that she was being interrogated like this? Gahh! She was a bachelor her entire life and yet now that here she was being treated as the scum of scum kind of woman, what a mess!
