Chapter 36: People change.

Bree felt her head throb even worse as she looked at Yakov who was looking at her like he was trying to look into her soul, her heart skipped a beat as she asked, " But what does that have to do with us spending alone time together?"

" You sure jest your majesty," said Yakov with a twinkle in his eyes. " If we do not spend some alone time together how will you get pregnant?"

This time it was Dion’s turn to cough, as Bree felt her face heat up with embarrassment and anger. " First consort watch what you say! You are standing in my office at the moment."

" I do not have any trouble with the place your majesty," shot back Yakov smoothly. " I am in for it as long as you like it."

His frivolous words were enough to send Dion into a coughing fit as the poor man doubled over if not for his hand pressed on the table he might have fallen to the floor.

" Enough Dion, you can leave ... it’s lunch break anyway." Bree could more or less understand why Yakov was doing this, sure enough, as Dion left the office, the twinkle in his eyes vanished and he turned a lot more serious than before as he stared at her. Seeing the change in him, Bree smiled mockingly, " I did not know that my First consort was actually dual face like this, if you wanted Dion to leave you could have asked him to do so, no need to say such empty flirtatious lines."

" I could have asked him to leave but you and I both know your majesty, Dion wouldn’t have left if I asked him to leave," said Yakov. " He is only loyal to you, not me... even if I ordered him, there was a possibility that he might have refused, but your order he will never disobey."

" Wickedly smart as always," Bree clapped her hands and then placed her hands on the tabletop as she addressed Yakov solemnly. " Now, tell me why are you here, Yakov?"

" I did not lie when I said that I wanted to spend some alone time together," said Yakov as he leaned forward and pressed his hands on the table before looking at Bree with a smile that caused the hair on the back of her neck to stand. But she still pressed the urge to run out of the room and calmly said, " Then you can sit down and wait for me to finish this pile of documents that needs to be signed."

However, he didn’t sit down. He kept standing right in front of her table with his gaze locked on her... Bree tried hard, she really tried hard to ignore his gaze but couldn’t in the end she placed the quill down and looked at Yakov whose expression seemed a bit too triumphant for her liking. " Why don’t you sit down?" She asked as she motioned at the chair in front of her.

" Because that’s the place for your subordinates, your majesty." He skilfully retorted with his amber eyes glinting with a witty glimmer. " I am not here as your subordinate but your husband and mate at the moment, I believe that it’s not right if I were to sit here and watch you work, this is not what I would call alone time either."

Bree pressed a hand on her forehead as she stood up from her chair. She knew that these guys were manipulative as heck but she didn’t expect them to be so good... First Ahmar and now him, though she was a bit sceptical about what Yakov wanted to say to her, she decided to entertain him given, that he wouldn’t leave without getting what he wanted... this was one thing that was common in all the four males who mated with the dragon Queen, they were stubborn and their ambitions knew no bounds.

The two of them walked to the resting parlour of the Dragon Queen and Bree took her seat on the small cushioned chair worried that Yakov would sit next to her if she were to sit next to on the long cushioned lounger and sure enough he sat on the space that was closest to her.

" It hurts my heart to see that you are building walls against me, your majesty," said Yakov as he pointed to the space between the two of them. " There was a time when I used to take on this very lounger, don’t you want to reenact that sweet memory?"

Bree who just reached her hand out to brew tea dropped the teapot if not for Yakov who caught it in time the hot water might have soiled the carpet beneath the table, flushed Bree looked at him. " Can you not mention such a thing in front of me when you have someone in your heart already?"

For two seconds Yakov looked at her and then burst out laughing. " hahaha! Your majesty, you sure know how to make a joke... someone in my heart?" He laughed so much that a tear escaped his eyes and he wiped it with his fingertip before shaking his head. " There is no way, that I will ever have anyone in my heart. I have long learned the lesson that one cannot trust anyone other than themselves, the last time I did trust on someone, she——" he cut off before he could continue and then looked at Bree with a cold gaze despite having a smile playing on his lips. " Anyway, your majesty... since when did you care about whether I had someone in my heart or not? Wasn’t I just a man you need to ease your itch, how come you have gotten so touchy touchy in just a span of few months when I didn’t see you?"

Bree felt herself get flustered, she could feel Yakov’s alpha vibes clogging the air like he was trying to interrogate her. She knew she couldn’t slip up so, despite all the pressure he was putting on her, she clenched her fingers and smothered his alpha vibes with hers as she responded, " People change first consort as you did."
