Chapter 35: Even if I ask for a Child?
" I like how smart you are, your majesty," Yakov smilingly said as he stood upright causing Bree’s brows to twitch in annoyance. It wasn’t that she was smart but she knew that Yakov was the type of guy who wouldn’t move a single finger unless there was some sort of benefit that he could get from it, he was a character like that—— every single one of his actions had a motive behind it, a selfish guy like that would never come to her office and just hand over his most trusted aide just like that, in fact, the second he stepped inside in the office, she knew that there was some sort of reason behind his visit or else he wouldn’t have bothered coming all the way here for no reason.
" What is it that you want?" Bree asked as she picked up the quill and took out a parchment from the drawer of her table. " Apart from reinstating you as the in charge of the Harem and palace responsibilities, I am willing to give you anything that you want."
Yakov tilted his head and pursed his lips as he raked his gaze over her figure. " Anything?"
Bree nodded as she picked up the glass of water on the table and took a sip just as Yakov parted his lips and said in a bemused tone, " Even if I want a child?"
Startled she coughed and sputtered, Dion who was surprised by how casually flirty the first consort was acting felt his eyebrows jump before he rushed to help the Dragon Queen by patting her on the back. "It’s all right, your majesty, take a deep breath and try to calm your racing heart."
It took a long time for Bree to calm down as she banged her fist on the table and looked at Yakov who was silently standing in the corner with an amused smile on his face. " I did not ask you to give your first born my name, your majesty."
"First consort really knows how to joke, you really expect me to give birth to a child for you after everything that you have done?" she asked looking at Yakov in stunned disbelief. She really wanted to know just where did these guys get their thick skin from, she didn’t have it!
Yakov didn’t seem offended in the least with a silky smooth smile he replied, " I am a very optimistic person, your majesty."
Optimistic, your fart! She was pretty sure that he was cooking something in that sick head of his, most probably how to get her pregnant or something. Now that he has said such a thing, she could not relax her guard against him—- " If you don’t want anything then you can leave, First consort."
" Who says that I do not want anything, your majesty?" said Yakov as he raised his brow and then strode a bit closer to her table. " I came here because I want to spend some alone time with my wife, I believe that I can have that much at the very least, right your majesty?"
" Alone time? For what?" asked Bree as she narrowed her eyes and looked at Yakov with suspicion but the latter’s expression didn’t even seem to change even in the slightest as he answered her questions. " Your majesty you are probably too busy to care about the matter of the harem but ..." his eyes turned a degree colder as he continued, " ever since you have ordered us consorts to be away from you, the ministers have caused havoc in the chancellor office, you have no idea how fascinatingly frustrating it is to receive marriage proposals for my wife. The ministers believe that you do not wish to be with us anymore that is why they are pushing their sons as the next candidate for the fifth consort, apparently, they believe that if their sons succeed in grabbing your attention and could take advantage of the rift that you, I and the rest of the consorts have... their sons might become the Emperor if you were to get pregnant. After all, it doesn’t matter who married you first but who gives an heir to the Empire first."
Bree frowned as she looked at Dion who nodded. " The palace is at unrest because the people are worried about your majesty never getting pregnant, that’s why the ministers are using this chance to pressurise the first consort."
" Why does it matter if I get pregnant or not?" asked Bree looking a bit upset, why does it matter if she were to get pregnant or not? It’s not like a man couldn’t be an Emperor just because he did not have a child? So why was it that she needed to have a child? How sexist was that?
Dion and Yakov looked at her weirdly before Yakov carefully assessed her and said, " Your majesty have you forgotten that the people of our empire can only have kids when you are pregnant with a child? This is the law of the Goddess."
" That’s right, your majesty." Dion chimed from the side looking a bit worried as well. " Only after the heir of the Royal bloodline conceives a child, will the newly imprinted couples and mates will be able to have children as well. If not the Empire will remain barren without any future generations."
This was the law of the Empire Goddess.
Once the ruler of the throne was changed—— no one in the Empire would be able to conceive a child, no wonder the ministers were pushing their son into the harem. It wasn’t that they were just being greedy, they were also worried about the future of the Empire.
Stunned, Bree looked at him... there was something like that? But it wasn’t mentioned in the book and if the existence of the Queen was so important, then how come she was killed in the book? She was confused but at the same time, she felt a sense of frustration rising in her heart, so basically, she can’t get away from these men no matter how much she struggled, can she?
