Chapter 270: Bandits Pack
Chapter 270: Bandits Pack
Bree didn’t say anything in response. She turned her gaze away after giving Blaise another exasperated look. Seeing her move her gaze away, Blaise rolled his eyes. He said to her, "You can deny it all you want, your majesty. But I know that you desire me just as much as I desire you. It’s a primal instinct and need that you cannot ignore."
"Do you not see me ignoring you?" Bree remarked as she turned her head and looked at the man sitting next to her. As soon as she finished speaking, the man smiled at her and winked. "I will let you live in denial for a bit longer."
The carriage came to a stop and the two of them stepped out of the carriage. Blaise was the first to step out as he reached out his hand and held it up for Bree to take. Probably because they were in public, Bree did not refuse his gesture and then stepped out of the carriage.
"Just wait, your majesty; one of these days I will make you admit that you need me as much as I need you," Blaise remarked while stepping close to Bree. "And when that happens, you will not be able to ignore me as you did just now."
Bree huffed as she took her hand away from him. She snorted, "You are really confident, aren’t you?"
"If I wasn’t, then I wouldn’t have dared to mark you, your majesty," he remarked with a smirk.
And Bree had to admit that he was right.
Once they arrived at the imperial court’s office, Dion flicked through the stack of papers that he had collected. He greeted the two of them before turning his attention back to the papers before saying, "Alright, your majesty. I have collected the information that you wanted. There is a jackal pack that lives on the outskirts of the empire. They call themselves Bandits. The alpha leader of this pack is Nicolas Flames and according to the information that I have collected from the locals of that area, he also owns a pub that is doing really well."
"The local shifters told me that the man moved here just a few years ago and he is not a resident of the empire, which is why he was not allowed to stay in the empire and could only stay outside. But that doesn’t stop him from being well connected. And when I dug deeper, I realised that this man has some connection to the Death Riders Organisation. But he is only involved with handing them all kinds of rare poisons."
"What a fantastic resume," muttered Bree as she took the portrait sitting on the table. She blinked her eyes and then turned to look at Blaise. "Have I ever seen him?"
"No, your majesty." Blaise shook his head. "I am afraid that this man is nothing more than just a small fry. How will he ever meet you?"
"Fine, let’s go and have a chat with this man," remarked Bree as she felt Saphira snarl at the portrait. She was the Empress of this empire and her dear dragon felt more than upset that this man had tried to make trouble in her territory. As someone who cared nothing about more than the safety of her people, Saphira was beyond the realms of being angry.
She was pissed and wanted to watch this man burn for causing disruption.
And with the two of them fusing together, Bree felt the same.
She stood up and looked at Blaise, who was eyeing her closely. "What’s the matter?" she asked when she saw him looking at her as if he was waiting for her to explode.
"You are way too calm, your majesty," Having known Bree for a long time, he knew that even though Bree was calm and collected for most of the time, she was fiercely protective of her people. She would rush straight to battle with a raging flame sword in her hands if she could to defend her people.
Now seeing her act so calm, Blaise was not buying her act as he could feel that the woman was filled with rage.
"Why won’t I be calm?" Bree asked with a smile on her face. "I am about to burn the man down who tried to attack my territory."Though she was once a normal human, now she was a shifter, and she had this fierce and dominant feeling of protecting her territory. That man dared to touch her palace; she would in turn burn down his pack for touching what was hers.
Her words were feral enough to make Blaise fall for her even more. Why did he even think that having a demure woman would be better? Having a woman as chaotically dominant was even better.
Dion on the other hand sighed and held up a hand to calm Bree down. He said, "Your majesty, we are not sure if this is the man who sent jackals to our palace. Please calm down and think things through well. If you hurt someone without evidence or testimony, I am afraid that the elders would have something to say. And the last thing you want is the council to send a messenger."
"Did he not send a letter to me a few months ago?" recalled Bree when she tried to think of where she had heard the name of Nicolas Flames. Finally, she remembered that she had received a letter from this man ages ago. "He asked me to let him and his men enter the empire but I refused. Because you said that jackals are known for their disruptive actions and would cause trouble."
Blaise remarked with a snort, "A good advice too. Even Jackals wouldn’t dare to trust each other given how untrustworthy they are. I bet that even though they call it a pack, no one has anyone’s pack. There was an incident where I once went to look for a jackal pack’s alpha. The result? They ran away without caring for their alpha. I bet this one is nothing different."
Bree grinned as she marched out of the office, "We will see once we arrive there."
