Chapter 269: Wickedly Sinful

He was never a firm believer of seers or the future they could see, but this one seer at his magic tower—she told things—things that came mostly true later on to him; it made Blaise trust her and he trusted her even now. He believed with Bree changing, the future the two shared would get better—but the seer told him that it wasn’t possible.

Bree was just as much of a disaster as she was in the beginning to him.

She even told him that he would regret claiming her. Thus Blaise hesitated again and again, wondering if it was the right thing to claim her. What if Bree did some great injustice to him, which led to the bond breaking?

He had seen how terrible the effects of a bond breaking could be—when his elder brother’s mate walked away from him without even giving him a chance to make things better, his elder brother had drowned in pain, emotions, and nausea, with exhaustion weighing down on him.

No matter what kind of person his brother was, he didn’t deserve it nor did he deserve the death that was bestowed upon him when he went rogue. However, no one cared about the cause; they only saw what was in front of them.

Now that woman who majorly ruined the life of his brother was living a good life with the man she thought she could see a future with and his brother? His body had long been reduced to bones under six feet in the ground.

Blaise didn’t want that. No, he loved himself too much to die for a woman. He was indeed obsessed with the idea of having Bree to himself, but he was not sure if he wanted to deepen their mating bond to the point where he could never pull back.

As for why he never tried to leave her, because he couldn’t. The idea of her leaving and mating with another man who was more than welcoming to marking her was not something that he wanted to see.

He knew that he was just being petty and selfish but it was—what it was.

He returned to the problem at hand and then turned to look at Bree, who was now staring out of the window. "I never meant that; you know how my mother and sisters are. They are known for their elegance and gentle personality; I grew up with them; thus, I believed that I could handle a woman of the same personality; I never meant anything else by those words."

"You mean, you would have a better chance at controlling them."

Blaise blinked his eyes, unsure of what he was hearing but he knew that Bree had seen right through him and nodded with a stunned look of disbelief on his face. How did she find out about this?

Was their mating bond that deep that she could even read his mind or something?

He did not think so.

"I mean—"

"You did not have to tell me any excuses." Bree held up her hand and looked at him calmly. "I know that it is due to you being a strong and competent alpha. It’s only right that you went after a woman whom you found worthy of your protection. Don’t worry, I have no desire to question you or the words that you have said back then. After all, a strong man would want someone who would rely on him rather than compete for dominance."

She was right again. He would rather want to imprint on someone who was easier to control, such that he would hold the control in their relationship, one where he wouldn’t have to worry about them messing him over.

Where they would worry about walking away from him rather than him worrying about them leaving him.

Bree was nothing like that. She was too powerful; even if she were to leave, she would never fear anything. She once stood on the top of the throne room and claimed that she could take on the effects of the breaking of four mating bonds together.

It showed how much strength she held in her hands.

Thus, it was him who feared her walking out of their bond and Blaise didn’t like the thought of a woman holding that kind of power over him. Not because he had anything against women; he didn’t treat them as if they were frail, damsels in distress whom he needed to protect all day long but because he couldn’t bring himself to trust one.

However, he ignored those words and turned to look at Bree before smiling at her. He said to her, "Do you think I am strong?"

She simply glared at him before crossing her legs and turning silent.

"Come on," Blaise said as he stood up and sat next to her. "It’s really not fair that you know so much about me and I don’t know anything about you. Why don’t you share a little with me?"

"What do you want to know?"

"Why are you so against getting close to us? I mean, if you don’t want to go deep, then you don’t have to." He won’t ask her to do what he couldn’t.

"And that’s where the problem lies," Bree sighed and turned to look at him. "I want that deep, even though I am asking for too much. Even though I know I find it difficult to be close with someone, I would rather be with someone who thinks of me as his better half rather than just a way to solve his desires. I would rather add more meaning to a relationship."

"Unfortunately, as a dominant shifter, it makes you refrain from getting close to me. And even if you do, you want to control me, isn’t that right?"

"It’s an instinct we can’t control." Blaise rolled his eyes as if he found her words amusing. "However, I am quite glad that you want something more from me, Your Majesty. I mean, you are so cute that my cat wants to take a bite of you."

"You don’t like me, third consort," she persisted.

He did not deny it because there was no point in doing so. Instead, he leaned closer and whispered, "I know but if you were to let me, then I won’t mind stripping you naked and having my way with you."
