Chapter 255: Teasing with eyes

Bree calmly moved her gaze away, hoping that she was not too obvious about her little actions and then peeked at Cian. And he was still staring at her—no, correction. Bree had seen many men look at her like this when she started working at the small flower shop at night. He was eye-fucking her. Bree felt her heart jump in her throat and she turned her gaze away, feeling slightly awkward.

It would have been better if he had been looking at her with the intention to kill her because then she would have had a way to handle this situation. But what was she supposed to do if he was to look at her like that? Bree was not good when handling situations that involved flirting or something along those lines.

It felt unserious and Bree was anything but fun.

She couldn’t do the same things those maids who were walking past the corridor were doing. Even though they knew that Cian was her mate and was married to her, they were still batting their eyes at him and tucking the strand of their hair behind their ears while giving him cues that he could stop wasting his time and have a fling with them.

Was it allowed? Bree thought it must be, after all, these men were involved with that maid named Harley just a few months ago. Even though they never crossed the lines, this mating bond was not completed, which meant that even if they wanted to have a fling with someone else, there was a chance that Bree might not exactly feel it.

While she was lost in her thoughts, her gaze drifted off to Cian, and she paused when she noticed that he was still looking at her. Bree abruptly looked away; she had no idea what to say to a man who was looking at her as if he was waiting to jump at her bones.

She knew that they were mates, which was equivalent to being husband and wife in her world but hello? What happened to taking it slow or at least saying a few nice words?

And her heart jumped even higher when Cian sidled up to her and sat down right next to her on the small bench that felt a bit too small when his arm brushed against hers. She glanced at him, and this time around, Cian’s lips curled up into that slow, lazy, and seductive smile. And he was still looking at her as if he was waiting to pounce on her bones.

Bree pursed her lips and turned to face him. She didn’t want to make it look like she was too weak to even face something like this, especially when Blaise had subtly made her know that he took her as a damsel in distress.

If she couldn’t even deal with these four men, then Bree might as well let them play around with her like a little doll.

She stared right back at him, making sure that he would know that his gaze was doing nothing to her but that her body had other plans. She felt her blood heat as Cian’s hooded, brooding eyes blatantly raked her from head to toe.

She could feel the sexual energy rising and humming in the air around her, stirring a part of her soul that Bree didn’t even know that it existed.

Not to mention he smelled of sea, the beaches, and that slow burn of amber. It didn’t help because Bree loved the sea. Back then she was too poor to arrange for a long trip, so she could only drive to the sea to calm her mind when she felt it was getting too much.

And with Cian smelling the same, Bree felt her heart at ease when she should be full on guard!

His eyes dropped to her lips and Bree felt herself going parched. Was this man really not doing anything? Was he really not using his siren skills on her?

"Your body is just reacting to his," she heard Saphira say somewhere in the back of her head but it only made Bree blush harder because it was equivalent to confessing that she was attracted to this man as well.

As Cian continued to stare at her hungrily, he flicked his tongue briefly over his lips, and Bree felt her entire body heat up. What kind of magical connection was this? The man was trying to seduce her and she was just letting him seduce her?

She cleared her head and questioned, "What’s the matter, third consort?"

His eyes widened innocently as he fluttered his long eyelashes, which could make even a woman jealous and then said to her, "What’s the matter, your majesty? Can’t I come here and sit next to you for a few minutes? I have been waiting for you these past few days but you never came to see me."

"It seems like my beauty is not enough to attract your attention, hmm?"

As he spoke, he leaned down, and Bree felt her brows jump when she realised that this man was not even wearing proper clothes. With his upper body bare, he only had a long white strip of cloth draped on his shoulders while he was wearing a set of loose white pants with wide golden pants.

"Well, dealing with the documents is one hell of a tough job; I cannot allow myself to get distracted."

"Should I feel honoured that her majesty takes me as a distraction?" Cian chuckled as he leaned back, his muscles bunched up and with the sunlight shimmering down on his pale skin, Bree cursed the author of this book.

Why the hell would anyone need an assassin as handsome as this man?

"You can think whatever you want as long as it keeps you happy."

Cian edged closer, his eyes dropping to Bree’s enticing mouth again. He felt angry and envious of the fact that Ahmar could kiss this mouth when he couldn’t. He wanted to touch her slightly tanned skin and see if it was really as warm and supple as he thought it was but Cian knew that if he were to do that, he would only spook Bree out because she didn’t seem to like a man acting like a creep.

So, he could only change his tactic and pretend that he was eager to know about the situation of the empire.

"So, I heard that there are traces and signs of Semel’s awakening?"

That got her attention and she turned to look at him before asking in that smoky voice, "How do you know about that?"

Though he felt his body shudder when she lowered her head and looked up at him with those golden eyes that seemed like they were about to drip like molten gold, he cleared his throat and answered, "It’s because of the trouble at the sea."
