Chapter 254: The Determination of a Siren

"I am fine, Mother," Cian rubbed the space between his brows.

"That’s the thing, Cian. I don’t think that you are okay. And I don’t think that you have been okay in a long time. I don’t like it." His mother frowned through the crystal ball, which was infused with mana and could be used as a communication tool.

Maybe it was some kind of compensation that Bree wanted to give to him for not visiting him at his palace but she didn’t confiscate this communication tool when his mother sent it hidden with the rest of the package that she had packed for him.

"You worry too much, mother. Just because her majesty is not visiting me, it doesn’t mean that I am not doing alright," Cian knew very well that he was not fine. Unlike the three consorts, he was not skilled with a lot of things other than assassinating and collecting information. But the thing was Bree had a lot of hidden spies who could do the same thing, which left him with nothing.

Cian knew that he wasn’t stupid. But he was not as smart as the other three consorts, which left him with little to no chance of getting close to Bree. Earlier he wanted to give up his position as well, just like Yakov and Ahmar but soon realised that other than being a consort, he had no other position in his hands that he could put on the line.

And even if he had one, Cian would have to think twice before taking the exams.

All in all, he didn’t get a chance to meet with Bree and he even forgot the last time the two of them spent time together.

His mother eyed him carefully before sighing. She said to him, "Alright, I will back off and stop badgering you. But Cian, keep in mind that there is no need for you to worry about not being able to finish your mating bond with her majesty and there is no need for you to rush this thing either because I don’t think you are ready for that yet."

And as much as Cian wanted to say that his mother was wrong, he knew that she was indeed in the right. He wanted to finish the mating bond but at the same time, Cian knew that he was nothing but unprepared for it.

For the mating bond, he needed to share everything that he had and Cian was sure that he was not ready for that.

He made a noncommittal sound and ended the conversation before turning to look at the garden through the windows of his room. Though he knew that he couldn’t give his all to the mating bond that he shared with Bree, Cian still wanted to show his presence in front of her.

He was worried that if he didn’t, that woman might even forget that a man like him existed in this harem.

"Your highness," Jesse stepped inside the bedchamber with a tray that held a bowl of soup. "I have brought your medicinal soup; please take a sip."

Cian turned around and looked at the bowl of sea salt that he needed to drink to keep his tail tucked and sighed. "What is the point of having legs when I can’t even use them other than walking around in the room?"

Though he said that, he picked up the bowl and drank the medicine in one gulp.

"Ah, disgusting," he grimaced just as Jesse offered him a sweet cake.

His aide looked at him with a glimmer of amusement in his eyes and then said to him, "Your highness, why don’t you use these legs of yours and walk around the garden?"

"I didn’t mean that I needed a change of space—"

"Your majesty is taking a walk in the garden as well."

Cian stood up almost instantly and then hurried out of the room; he was worried that Bree would return to her office, where she would get lost for the rest of the day.

"Why didn’t you tell me this earlier?" He accused Jesse with a glare.

His aide had the audacity to shrug as he replied, "It’s not that I didn’t wish to tell you this, your highness. Her majesty just arrived in the garden and it seems like she was a little annoyed. So I made sure that her anger simmered down lest she take it out on you."

Cian knew that Jesse was only looking out for him but that didn’t make him feel any better.

He hurried down the path that had a bunch of blue spider lilies growing on both sides, like a wall of flowers and arrived in the middle of the garden where Bree was sitting.

He heaved a sigh of relief when he saw her dark, wavy hair fluttering in the air and walked over.

As if sensing his presence, she opened her eyes and looked up. And just like always, those eyes took his breath away. Like him, there were shadows in her eyes that showed the soul-deep loneliness that the two of them shared but at the same time, he could see the steely glimmer in those molten gold that was enough to tell him that she was stronger than others thought.

Unlike other women, she didn’t look at him with feminine appreciation in her eyes as if she was trying to strip him in her mind. She merely glanced at him and questioned, "Fourth consort, are you here on a walk as well?"

Cian smiled as he stepped forward and Bree had to admit that he was a sight to behold when he smiled with that face of his.

"I am, your majesty," he replied with that smooth as honey voice of his which made Bree think of nothing but unholy things. If she didn’t know better, she would have thought that Cian was using his siren skills on her, but with Saphira not going high on alert, she was certain that he was casually speaking to her.

It was just that this man was—the finest example of sheer seductiveness, covered and dusted with hotness and just to add to his charm, he also had this little sprinkle of raw charisma.

And even though he looked like he was innocent and harmless, Bree was ready to bet her throne that Cian was nowhere near as harmless as he made himself to be. The fact that this man was one day going to be the leader of an assassinating guild was enough to prove that.

Her eyes flickered to the entrance of the garden and she heaved a sigh of relief when she saw that there was a guard patrolling at the entrance, which meant that this man was not here to kill her.

So why was he here?
