Chapter 173: A date

The procession started moving once everyone got inside the carriages, the nearest transmission gate was at Kellington town, a few hours away from the forest of midnight blues. Bree glanced around the forest for one last time before getting inside the carriage, though the comfort in the tent wasn’t half as nice as the palace for her this small moment of peace was something that she wanted to enjoy to the fullest.

Now Bree sat inside the carriage with her elbow resting on the window sill as she stared out of the carriage watching the gnarled trees and birds crying ominously through their hideouts Bree tilted her head allowing the early morning breeze to ruffle her hair a little, looking a bit melancholic as she stared out of the window.

" Are you all right you majesty?" asked Yakov as he looked at Bree whose eyelids were shutting down despite her trying to keep herself awake. The latter raised her head and shot him a languid gaze that was full of blame as she said, "It’s your fault, because of you I am like this ... if you didn’t say those nonsensical words I would have slept through the night without worrying about what exactly did you mean by those words.

" Ah, are you still thinking about what I said last night?"

" Of course, if I know that you wouldn’t tell me anything," said Bree as she tilted her head up and then looked at him from the corner of her eyes." That’s why I have no other choice but to think it through myself but of course, if you feel sorry for me then you can tell me what exactly you meant by those words?"

" I think you are tired your majesty, you should go to sleep now."

" You are really not going to help me out here a little?"

" Your majesty, it is simple. When I said that I cannot exist without you then it means that my existence has no meaning without you, is that so hard to understand?" Then he helped Bree lie down on his lap after putting a fluffy pillow beneath her head. " You don’t have to think so hard about it your majesty, without my true mate my wolf will slowly die. There is no need for you to think so much about it, all right?"

" I am not seven years old, you know?" Bree grumbled as she twisted around to find a comfortable spot to sleep. " I know that you are hiding something from me."

" If you drop those thoughts and go to sleep then I will get you a tornado twister, I heard the Kellington town is having their annual Mavis festival. I am sure you will be able to get your favourite frozen delight."

Bree gave an exaggerated pout before closing her eyes. " I will let you off today since I like how you are trying to buy me off."

When Bree woke up, the first thing that she heard was the screeching of the gulls followed by the humming of the boats. She sat up straight from Yakov’s lap and her lungs did a sort of rejoicing dance as they took in the chilly sea breeze. Their carriages passed by a bunch of fishermen dressed in beige pants and white shirts with matching fisherman jackets, most of the fishermen turned around to look at their carriage before pausing at the sidewalk and bowing to Bree and Yakov as they took off their caps and tipped them at the two.

Bree smiled as she waved her hand to them while Yakov politely acknowledged them with a soft smile. Because Bree wasn’t carrying an extra load of documents that she needed to finish as an assignment for earning some extra bucks, she didn’t miss the witch performing a myriad of tricks for the kids, three seagulls screeching as they fought over the dropped piece of chicken on the ground, children running after their parents with partially shifted body, tiny little ears popping out of their head.

Maybe coming here wasn’t all that bad at least she no longer received any calls from her parents asking her to send a bit more money every week. And there were no longer any extra assignments or deadlines that she needed to finish or else she wouldn’t have enough to eat at the end of the month.

The carriage came to a halt as Yakov pushed open the door of the carriage and strode out before offering his outstretched hand to Bree as he helped her out of the carriage. Bree climbed out of the carriage and then turned her head around as she looked at the rocky pavement with stalls lining up at each side of the road, her lips curled up in what Yakov thought was a smile but she was trying hard to tone it down.

Maybe because she didn’t want to agree to her feelings of enjoying his company, he didn’t blame her after all he hasn’t been a gentleman in front of her. It would be better to say that every time he has tried to get closer to her, he has been a total jerk to her ... but that was the kind of personality he had. As a shifter being coarse and vulgar was something that he learned from his father but after staying close to this woman, he was sure that being rough wasn’t the correct way to her heart.

At least that’s what he realised after thinking it through last night. " The town is small but it’s known for its history. I heard from my father that, this town has been here even before the late grand Emperor was born, it’s said that this town was blessed by Goddess Mavis as she came to rest at this place and was impressed by the kindness and generosity of the villagers. Even after so many years, the village has never faced any sort of trouble."

Bree glanced up at him, her eyelashes fanning her cheeks as she looked at him. It wasn’t her usual suspicious gaze but instead, it was more inquisitive like she was wondering what he was trying to do exactly, and he sort of felt bad for not trying to dodge the suspicions till now.

She stared at him for two seconds before dropping her gaze and turning to look at the hustle and bustle of the crowd as she said, "It is a pretty town."

A smile teased her lips as she looked around and Yakov couldn’t help but wonder how fortunate he would be if she was turned around and looked at him with that pretty smile of hers. " I have never been to a harbour before, now it feels like I have missed a lot of things. Is this town also under the territory of Duke Cilantro?"

Yakov closed the distance between the two of them, feeling like something was tickling him. Though he didn’t need to worry about taking a mile for an inch because compared to Ahmar and the others he wasn’t someone who tried to cope with the feel of his wife in public. "It’s not but because we share this harbour with the Bellion Empire that’s why we don’t have much freedom here."

Bree nodded as she looked around the stalls while walking around the town, Yakov’s eyes locked on the stall she was looking at and immediately cursed himself inwardly. Because of the lack of resources they didn’t get to eat breakfast this morning, how could he forget something like that?

" Are you hungry, your majesty?"

She nodded paying more attention to the roasted lamb chops than to him. " I guess, the universe might want us to eat a good breakfast. That looks appealing don’t you think so?"

Yakov was surprised as his lips twisted in a smile as he hurriedly suppressed them and glared at the knights who were looking at him as if he was a freaking miracle and then turned to look at Bree before tipping his chin at the restaurant —- ’ Ahoy’ at the end of the street. " I have never been to that place but my father did say that compared to the other restaurants, this one was better."

When she turned to look at him, he tried to make himself look a bit tamer such that she didn’t think of him as someone scheming again. " If you would like, if not we can go somewhere else."

" I would like to eat at the stalls," said Bree as she turned her attention back to the lamb chop stall and smiled. " Compared to a restaurant I think a stall will be better."

"If that’s what you will like."

Bree hummed as she slipped past him and then walked to the stall, her scent wafting over to his nostrils apparently shooting right to a part that had no reason to show its presence at the moment. He shook his head and followed after her as she came to a stop in front of the stall and raised her hand to show slender fingers as she said, " Two servings of lamb chops, Sir."
