Chapter 172: Something weird.
Bree turned to the side and didn’t bother Yakov anymore but at the same time, she couldn’t help but think over what he said just now... if he stayed alive then does it mean that she was alive somewhere. How can that be? If the Bree in the book was alive she would have surely escaped right? With her powers as a Dragon shifter, there was no way she would have let go of her throne to Harley just like that..so was Yakov lying?
Opposite her Yakov too had his eyes opened as he stared at the wall of the tent, he rubbed his fingers and pondered over what Bree said carefully, it seems that she only knew that they were preparing to rebel but she had no idea about them planning to cage her, which was fortunate if not then —— his eyes flashed as he closed them.
There was no need to think about the ifs and buts, now he just need to take care of that maid and try his best to get close to Bree. Since she was reluctant to get close to him then he would make it so that she wouldn’t be able to stay without him.
" Your majesty, are you okay?" Cassius looked at the number of tea cups that were scattered all over Bree’s desk and couldn’t help but ask in worry. Though the tea that he made was something that he learned from his mother and knew that nothing would go wrong if someone was to drink it excessively but seeing Bree slurp one cup after another, even if it wouldn’t affect her health, it was still not good to drink a cup of tea every five minutes!
Bree rubbed her temples and nodded her head as she finished the last of the documents that she needed to read and stood up from her chair, last night she couldn’t sleep. No matter how much she tried, she couldn’t think of any reasonable explanation about what Yakov meant by that she would have been alive somewhere... if the Dragon Queen was alive as per his wishes then why didn’t she return to claim her throne from her consorts and the woman who sat down on the throne unjustly?
Was it because she didn’t care or was it because she couldn’t come back? There were numerous possibilities but Bree couldn’t think of one that would explain the death scene that she read in the book. In the book, the sentence that —— ’ And thus, the tyrant queen breathed her last,’ was mentioned clearly in bold, italics words but Yakov said that surviving after losing one’s true mate was impossible.
So, what exactly was the truth?
If the Queen died then how was it possible for her to be alive?
There were a lot of questions but no one could answer her... and as for the one who could, he was gone before the dawn broke.
She turned to look at Cassius and asked, " Where is the first consort?"
" What did you say?" Yakov stared at Aileen in disbelief, he was sure that he heard something wrong because there was no way an omega was able to escape Aileen’s grasp!
" I couldn’t kill her," Aileen bowed apologetically as he tried to remember what happened last night but he couldn’t, all he remembered was that something happened and then he fainted what happened ... whenever he tried to remember it, his head would start hurting like something was stopping him. He rubbed his forehead and then continued, " I can’t remember what happened, my lord. All I know is that when I woke up, I was lying in the groove alone and Miss Harley couldn’t be found."
Yakov banged his fists on the tree next to him and gritted his teeth, Cian’s words came floating in his head as he remembered what the latter has said about Harley. ’ There is something about her that’s really weird... she is different from other omegas, I don’t know how but something stopped me from killing her. In fact, she even drew me closer to her.’
If something about Harley was different then it would explain why he was drawn to her the first time when he saw her, at first he only wanted to look for a better heir for the throne. One who would be able to reign on the Empire without him worrying about the Empire, but in the end he chose Harley. A woman who didn’t even have the slightest bit of idea about how an Empire was ruled ...why ..did he not think of this before?
" Are you sure that she didn’t do anything to you?" Yakov looked at Aileen, he knew his aide. Being the heir of his family, Aileen’s toxicity as a basilisk was much more strong than his half brothers and sisters, for him to not be able to kill a mere omega... this was something that Yakov couldn’t believe.
Aileen stood up straight and rubbed the back of his head before answering, " I do feel a bit painful at the back of my head but that’s only because I fell on my back, other than I feel all right except for not remembering what happened between me and that maid."
" Go and ask a healer to take a look," Yakov said noticing the pale complexion of his aide. " Make sure that you get yourself thoroughly checked, all right?"
" Yes, master."
Yakov watched Aileen leave and then strode towards the carriages that were parked at the end of the camp. He couldn’t care less about Harley before, always thought that she was something that he could take care of at any moment but turns out that it was easier to invite her than to make her leave.
" He looks mad," Leon cupped his face as he looked at Yakov, his eyes glittering with amusement as he jumped off the tree. A sharp pain shot through his ankle and he hissed, " Such a frail body! If only I had the time——"he paused when he noticed Bree walking out of her tent and curled his lips. " Never mind, this is good enough."
