Chapter 165: You will have to lower your head

" Isn’t he handsome?" asked Melody noticing that Bree was looking at the portrait in the hands of her guard. " He is my most beloved brother, my parents loved him so much that they never allowed him to go out of the palace alone, maybe my brother found it too overwhelming and ended up sneaking out of the palace as soon as our parents died. If I knew that he was this stifled within the palace, I would have asked my parents to let him go out more."

Bree’s gaze skimmed at the yellow parchment before coming to a stop at those sleazy red eyes. Red eyes, didn’t see read about a character with red eyes?

With a slight raise of her chin, she looked at the smiling Melody and asked in a calm tone, " What’s the name of your brother? If we know his name then it will be easy to search for him, don’t you think so princess of Navia?"

Her tone was easy and smooth making it impossible for Melody to sense that anything was wrong, her smile widened as she quickly answered Bree’s question. " Cassius..his name is Cassius Navia. He is a very cute boy, you will recognise him right away if you see him, your majesty but in case he says anything while in his drunken frenzy please do not mind it. He might be a bit rough around the edges but he is a very good boy."

Bree scoffed lightly with a smile as she shook her head and then raised her head to look at Melody completely disregarding the portrait in the hands of the guard standing next to Melody before asking, "Does the princess of Navia thinks that it’s fun to waste the time and resources of my Empire by showing me this fake portrait of the Crown prince?"

Her words brought an instant change in Melody’s smiling expression as the latter face twisted slightly in confusion but that happened only for a second, within the next second Melody hitched her lips in a smile again as she said, " I am afraid that I do not understand what you are trying to say, your majesty——"

" I have seen Crown Prince Cassius," Bree interrupted Melody with a small smile, well she hasn’t exactly seen Cassius but she has read about him in the book, the fifth lead and the only decent character in the entire book. He was described as a man who was gorgeous enough to make even Cian insecure about his looks with shiny red eyes like rubies and shoulder-length blond curly hair like strings of gold.

She couldn’t even count the number of adjectives that the author used to describe Cassius in the book but even if she wasn’t certain about it, Bree was sure that the author might have used every adjective known to humanity in respect of Cassius.

For Melody to say that this ugly man in the portrait was Cassius, it was simply laughable.

" What....?" For the first time, Melody’s smile slipped down her face, eyes popping she stared at Bree who stared right back at her with her arms crossed and a slight tilt of her head. " You heard me, I have seen crown prince Cassius... and I can ascertain you that he doesn’t even look like this, so pray tell me princess Melody why are you showing me this portrait and asking me to waste my time?"

" That...That’s impossible right," Melody hurriedly looked at her guard, disbelief marring her face. " There is no way that your majesty would have seen my brother——"

" Are you implying that I am lying?" Bree raised a brow as soon as her word fell Darren’s hand reached to his sword as he curled his fingers around the hilt of the sword. " Princess Melody please watch what you say, your careless words can cause a lot of problems for your country."

Darren’s words weren’t without any base, the last time someone used such words in context regarding what Bree said and made it sound like they were questioning the validity of Bree’s words. And the next day they woke up to the army of Dragniere marching towards them, leading them was none other than the War God—— the Dragon Queen herself.

Melody too understood that she said something wrong and hurriedly lowered her head, was her mind flooded with water? How can she say such words in front of the crazy Dragon Queen? Just because she has stopped conquering the empire impulsively doesn’t mean that she has changed her ways.

She hurriedly changed her expression and smiled politely before Bree as she bowed her head slightly. " I misspoke, what I meant is that my brother has never set his foot outside the palace, he couldn’t have possibly left the palace without permission, maybe your majesty met with a crook who introduced himself as the crown prince of our Empire."

" Is that so? But did you not say that the Crown prince sneaked out of the palace a few days after the funeral of your parents?" Bree said as she stepped forward, the setting sun cast a golden hue on her face lighting her golden eyes with a shining glow but instead of making her look pretty, it made her appearance even more dangerous. " If he didn’t sneak out before then how come he sneaked outside the palace out so suddenly? Or maybe there is something that the princess is not telling us?"

Bree’s questions were enough to make Melody shiver, she didn’t raise her head nor did she say anything in response with her head lowered and hands clutching on her skirt, she simply stood in front of Bree.

"Hah, it seems that it’s just as I think," Bree took another step forward as she came to stand in front of Melody, with a slight twist of her waist, she lowered her head and whispered into Melody’s ear. " I don’t know what you are trying to achieve by putting on this show in front of me but don’t bother. In case you piss me off than before sitting on the throne for which you are working so hard, you have to lower your head in front of me, first."
