The Dragon Queen and her mates.
Chapter 158: Eternal glory

Chapter 158: Eternal glory

The fox struggled for a long time but she could fight against Aileen’s strength firstly, she was weaker than him and secondly, she was an omega. Her strength was limited and even if her anger was fuelling her urge to fight, she could only go this far with her powers, the fox let out oner angry growl before she fainted and only then did Aileen let go of her. Bree watched as the snake uncoiled itself from the fox’s body and then retreated slightly, it didn’t move away from Bree clearly afraid that the fox might be pretending to faint and would jump at Bree if he was to slither away from her.

" Take that fox to the knights’ tent," ordered Yakov as he glanced at the slumped body of the fox on the floor and then turned to look at the knights who were standing next to him. " Make sure that she stays alive and well, I believe that there are a few questions that her majesty has to ask her."

" Yes, first consort!" The knights all understood the anger and grief that Ron’s mate was going through at the moment but they couldn’t help but blame her for attacking the Queen. It was the Queen who stepped forward and saved them all if not they all would have died one by one and even if the queen was their leader it didn’t mean that she had any responsibility to protect them, if she protects them then it was her grace if she doesn’t protect them then it was their fate. How can they blame her for not being strong enough to take down the mountain golem? If the Queen starts protecting herself then what are they supposed to do?

The two knights walked towards the fox, one of them crouched down and picked up the unconscious fox while the other bowed solemnly in front of the Queen, really Ron’s mate just did something unnecessary. It was the Queen who requested this funeral and yet that woman ruined it by doing something like this, they were afraid that the Queen will get angry and leave the funeral. If so then Ron’s death would be in vain, he will become a knight that lived and died for the Queen yet because of his mate the Queen left his funeral halfway, if that happens then it will really be humiliating for him!

" Your majesty," Darren nervously stepped forward once the knights took the fox away, he was clearly afraid that the Queen would be offended. The last time something like this happened, then it wasn’t just the dead knight who was buried in the grave, his entire family followed him to the grave and was buried along with him, even the young ones who were just ten and twelve years old—— the sight was so gruesome that Darren couldn’t sleep for days. If the Queen was truly angered then ... he gulped in fear, as he stepped forward and without any confidence asked, "Your majesty, it’s your turn to pay respect to the fallen knight."

As soon as his words fell all the knights turned to look at him with eyes popping out of their sockets, was he being serious? Pay respects? What pay respects! At this time just ask the Queen to forgive Ron on behalf of their regiment and apologise for the incident that just happened, what respect?

Even Darren understood that something was wrong, so he hurriedly said, " No that’s not what I meant your majesty, what I meant was——"

" You are right," said Bree without an ounce of anger in her voice, she glance at the snake curled on her side and smiled at it. " Thank you for protecting me," she crouched down and ran her fingers on the shiny black scales. Aileen’s basilisk would have of course adored being respected by the Queen but as it felt a cold gaze locked at the back of his head, it shivered and then bowed to the Queen before slithering towards his master.

Seriously, all the Queen did was run her fingers on its scales it wasn’t as if she marked him with his scent there was no need for the master to be this angry because of something so small as the Queen touching his scales.

However, no matter how annoyed the Basilisk was, it wriggled towards his masters and then innocently blinked his eyes up at his master’s shoes as if trying to say—— ’Look I am so good, I came slithering towards you the second, you called for me master!’

Yakov glanced at the small snake and huffed under his breath, it was him who ordered Aileen to make a move why was it that she was willing to praise his aide but now him?

Bree didn’t know that one of her vinegar jars has tipped and was now smelling so badly that it was turning an innocent snake into a pickled snake. She strode towards the grave that was newly marked by Darren and the other knights and read the name of the knight who sacrificed himself, she really was something else. A knight threw his life away from her and till today when he died, Bree even has any idea what his name was. She lowered her head and read the short epitaph that was written on the tombstone crudely and heaved a breath. " I am sorry," this was what she wanted to say ever since she found out that her delay caused a knight to die, even though she knew that the knight can no longer listen to what she was saying, she still looked at the picture that was resting next to the tombstone.

In the picture, Ron was smiling widely with his arms thrown around a pair of an elderly couple and Bree felt her guilt double as she looked at him and whispered. " I should have tried to come sooner if I did then you would have survived, I apologise for my incompetence." With that she bowed her body in an apologetic bow and then straightened up again, she wished she could say something other than ’ I am sorry’ But Bree thought that it would sound a bit too fake.

She grieved his death because she could have saved him but other than that, she didn’t even know who Ron Fletcher was, what he did and what kind of person he was, she lowered her eyes and then looked at the man in the picture before heaving a sigh. She really wanted to say something more, do a little thing that would mean something to him but what was she supposed to do?

At this moment, she felt her hand suddenly turn hotter and hotter as her fingers tip ignited and then before she knew it the white lily that she was holding soon turned into a flaming lily causing many knights to suck in a sharp breath even Yakov was slightly stunned upon seeing the flaming lily in the hand on Bree. Did she even know what she was doing?

Of course, Bree knew what this flaming lily was—— Eternal glory. Not much was mentioned about this in the book but she did read it in passing, according to the book, it was said that The Dragon Queen was next to the Goddess who created this world, it could be said that the people of this world believed the Goddess to be the ruler of the sky while the Dragonieres were believed to be the ruler of this world. Their status was very much similar to that of the Goddess and among all the powers that they had, Eternal Glory was something that could be considered both strong and weak.

Weak because it did nothing to safeguard the security of the Dragonieres but on the other hand it was considered incredibly strong because whoever got the eternal flame of glory no matter in whichever form was believed would go to a beautiful place after their deaths.

It was something that the people believed in, Bree didn’t know if this was the truth or not but she what she knew was that when the late emperor passed away, the original Dragon Queen didn’t give him eternal glory, instead, she ordered his body to be buried in the darkest corner of the graveyard. Maybe it was her pettiness but she didn’t want her father to go to a good place even after death.

Bree looked down at the flaming flower in her hand and calmly placed it on top of the freshly dug soil that was piled on top of the ice coffin. " Rest in peace, Sir Ron Fletcher."

After she placed the flaming lily on the grave, Bree straightened up and walked to Yakov’s side. The latter looked a bit surprised but she could see the pride in his eyes as if he was genuinely happy about what she just did, so when she walked closer to him, he stepped closer to her before raising an arm as he patted her forehead with a smile, like she was a child who just returned home with an A+. " You did an amazing job, Briana."
