The Dragon Queen and her mates.
Chapter 155: Funeral

Chapter 155: Funeral

The clothes were too rough? Only ghosts will believe his nonsense! She was a dragon shifter! Her skin was hard enough to block a sword, how can a piece of rough, cotton shirt bother her?

Bree sucked in a breath as she glared at Yakov, she pushed herself off the bed before turning to look at Yakov with squinted eyes, full of suspicion. " If you are going to excuse then at least make such an excuse that can be believed in at the least, if not then speak the truth."

Yakov walked to his cabinet, pulled out a set of clean clothes that were soaked with his scent and held the pair of trousers and shirt in front of Bree, of course, the latter didn’t take the clothes he was giving her so Yakov sighed and placed the clothes on the bed before mirroring Bree’s posture and then leaned closer to her before he whispered hotly, " If your majesty wants me to say the truth then I will say the truth to you, your majesty. The reason I shredded the clothes is that I cannot bear the thought of you wearing clothes of another man, just the very thought is enough to make me want to rip that bastard limb by limb before snapping his ribs, ripping them out and stabbing his heart with his own rib, if your majesty doesn’t want to see unnecessary bloodshed then I will suggest that you wear the clothes that I have given you for the sake of Sir Darren’s safety."

Seeing that Bree was slightly uncomfortable with him being so close, Yakov understandingly took a few steps back. " I can’t bear the thought of another man’s scent covering you, your majesty. So, please heed my words because if you don’t then I will have no other choice but to take that man down with me and I don’t think that the second consort would be happy upon losing such a talented colleague."

" Are ...Are you crazy?" This was something that Bree wanted to ask for a very long time but she couldn’t bring herself to say anything of the sort to him now that he expressed his desire of killing a man just because she was going to dress his clothes, Bree couldn’t stop herself from asking the one question that has been bothering her for so long.

Yakov chuckled and clutched the naughty strand of her hair that once fluttered over to the front of her face and kissed it lightly before he smiled with a dangerous glint in his eyes and looked at Bree. " For you? Of course your majesty."

Bree shuddered under his flirtatious actions and slapped his hand away but not only Yakov did not get upset, his smile widened even more as he looked at Bree and said, " I will wait for you, your majesty. Please come outside after you are done changing, we have a funeral to attend to."

After that he turned around and left the tent, leaving Bree to stay stuck in a spot for two whole minutes as she stared after him with a stunned look on her face. " I ... I really need to get away from here!" She really has to go back or these men will drive her crazy, in the book these lines were indeed said by Yakov but the receiver wasn’t her but Harley! What was he doing throwing such an important scene and cheesy lines in front of her instead of using them to get his leading lady?

However, she didn’t dwell on what Yakov said for long ——just as he said, there was a funeral that needed to be held before dawn, this was no time for Bree to think about what went inside the head of these male protagonists. She hurriedly changed her clothes and went outside the tent, once she stepped out everyone threw away what they were doing and Darren who seemed the most upset with what happened to one of his brothers in arms strode forward and came to a stop next to Bree and Yakov.

" The arrangements of the funeral have been done, your majesty." Darren’s voice was so sombre that even Bree could feel his grief, she didn’t blame him for the lack of attention and simply nodded. " Let’s go, one must be laid to rest when the sun is still up."

Darren nodded and then stepped aside allowing Bree to walk in front of him alongside Yakov, Darren as a subordinate walked half a step behind them. The place that the knights chose for Ron’s grave was a beautiful flower valley that faced the sun, their reasoning was simple they wanted to send their friend and brother with all the warmth that was in this world.

When Bree reached the grave that has already been dug, she witnessed a heart-wrenching sight in front of her. A maid dressed in a simple black dress was hugging Ron’s body while crying and shouting, " Don’t bury him, Don’t take him away... he is scared of the dark... he couldn’t even stay two seconds in the dark without holding my hands..leave him... I will wake him up, he will definitely wake up for me!" She hugged the cold body and lightly patted Ron’s pale face as she whispered, " Ron...Ron let’s go back home, I know you can hear me.. please wake up... or else they will bury you in that dark pit... I know you are scared."

But no matter how many times the maid called Ron, his eyes remained shut, seeing this scene even the cold face knights’ couldn’t help but shed a tear or two. In the end, the maid was pulled away by her friends and the knights finally stepped aside as soon as they retreated Darren stepped forward, shot a glance at looked at the cold body of his friend and with a voice that was hoarse with grief said, " Ron Fletcher was a very good friend, a loyal lover, a respectful son but above all, he was a brave knight till the end. I wish that instead of standing here and saying these final words on behalf of our regiment, I could have hugged you and praised you for your bravery with a smile but I cannot and now that I stand here with my heart feeling heavier than ever before you I can only say —— what was the hurry you little brat, at least ... you should have given me a chance to go before you."
