The Dragon Queen and her mates. -
Chapter 140: Not anymore.
Chapter 140: Not anymore.
Was it the end of the world? Bree sure thought that it was—— her entire body felt like it was being slowly roasted. There was something hot and ardent burning inside her, wanting to come out but maybe it was her body that was too weak because she couldn’t let it come out, no matter how hard she tried, that thing stayed put in its place and the more it got suppressed the more fiercely it burned.
Bree swallowed hard as she dropped to her knees while scratching the boulder with her nails, her other hand clutched her chest as she panted. Her heart, felt like it was going to be torn into bits—-not because she was watching her mate jump right into a fire pit but because she just saw one of her children being smashed to death, believe it or not, she might have never accepted the role of Dragon Queen and from the day she came here, she has been thinking for a way to go back but it didn’t change the fact that she was the Dragon Queen. The mother of all dragons, as long as they were living in Dragniere, they were her children ...and the knight who just died was also one of her children.
So, how can she not grieve? Not only was she grieving, Saphira was beyond the point where she could understand anything. She was a soul that stumbled into this world for no reason but she was one with Saphira, and her beast’s grieve was her own —— she stared at the mountain golem with her teeth gritted, she wanted to shift and take it down but even when Saphira was lunging at her surface, again and again, she couldn’t do it, all because she was too weak to do so.
" Stop," she groaned as she watched Yakov’s wolf rush towards the mountain golem, she didn’t know what he was thinking ..even if his wolf was big enough to take down an ice bear, he wasn’t big enough to take a monster down. Yet, he was running towards that beast as if he was willing to die along with the knights who were fighting it.
" Ugh ..." Bree felt her heart throb even more and she slumped further down. With her vision that was turning blurry, she stared at the beast and the knights fighting it. They needed to stop, they needed to retreat further back because that thing will eventually kill them all, she knew that they knew it too but they didn’t want to go down without a fight, their pride as knights wouldn’t let them do it —— hah, was pride even worth doing something so suicidal, that was the last thought that came to her mind as she felt her brain getting fried to bits.
Yakov sprinted towards the mountain golem, as an heir of the Sceptre family, he couldn’t leave his subordinates behind, this was something that he have learned as a child. A leader wasn’t the one who just sprouted out orders left and right, leaving his subordinate to fulfil the jobs, nor was he someone who would hide in the face of danger —— he was supposed to lead and protect them not just as the heir of the Sceptre family but also as the first consort of the Dragon Queen.
His wolf let out a loud roar asking the knights to retreat further, his paws thudding against the harsh ground. The knights retreated in time as the wolf let out a roar—- the vibrations loud enough to make them cover their ears, the sceptre family was known for their sound techniques, it was said that with their roars alone they were able to split boulders big enough to crush a bear ... as on cue, the trees next to them split in half and fell on the ground with loud thuds.
With such a power display the knights believed that the beast will be taken down to the ground in just a moment but when they turned their heads to look at the mountain golem, they were surprised to find it only slightly dazed, other than that it was completely fine.
" First consort?" Harley and the other omegas didn’t run that far, in fact, they were hiding really close by because they were worried about being attacked by another beast in case they were to leave the protection of the alphas. From their hiding spot, they could easily see the fighting that was happening in front of them, so when Harley saw Yakov rush towards the golem, her heart instantly jumped to her throat. This was not what she wanted, she wanted to take care of that Dragon Queen who was stubbornly sitting on the throne that should have belonged to her... never did she want Yakov to put his life on the line like that, she looked at Yakov’s wolf running closer to the mountain golem and immediately rushed out of her hiding spot... she needed to stop him if he got hurt then what was she going to do?
" Oh no, you don’t..." The blonde maid had enough of Harley’s antics, the first time she strode out of their hiding spot, she killed one of the shifters. There was no way she was going to let her do the same thing again! She walked out of the thick cluster of trees quick as a flash and followed after Harley before raising her hand and with a swift chop sending the latter go down on the ground, one time was enough. She wouldn’t let this stupid girl make another trouble for them.
After she was done, she crouched down and picked Harley with the back of her legs and dragged her back to the spot where the rest of the omegas were hiding and that too none too gently.
No one other than the omegas knew that something like this happened, they all were paying attention to the golem that was slowly getting back to its feet. His golden eyes flashed with annoyance as it let out a roar that was loud enough to push the knights back three feet through it——
" This is going to be tough," Darren shifted back, he couldn’t stay in his beast form for long because of the high consumption of mana, compared to the Queen, he wasn’t strong enough to maintain his large beast form for more than an hour, in fact, he has already pushed himself past his limits.
The same thought was running in Yakov’s mind as he told his wolf what to do next, since sound vibrations couldn’t take this beast down then surely something else will, right?
He retreated prepared to lunge at the beast, if he can’t bring him down through his powers then he will do it through sheer strength!
Just as Yakov was preparing to run headlong against the mountain golem, Darren signalled the eagle shifters to go stand by—— he will wait for the first consort to attract the attention of the beast and when it was distracted by it, he will signal the eagle shifters to aim at the eyes of the mountain golem.
The eagles flying in the sky understood the signals and retreated, while Yakov arched his back while tensing his muscles as he prepared himself to jump right at the mountain golem, he knew what he was doing could get him hurt very badly but there were no other choices, this was the only chance he was going to have and there was no way he was going to let it go.
So, without waiting for his mind to change the tactics he had in his head, he rushed at the mountain golem—— he needed to take this beast down as quickly as possible given that his mate was in no state to fight it. For her sake, he had to take this risk lest she tries to push herself.
Maybe the plan that Yakov and Darren agreed to would have been successful if not for Harley’s presence.
As soon as the two started to put the plan in motion, a black string erupted through Harley’s fingers and shot right through the golem’s head like an invisible signal that no one could see—— the second that string touched the golem’s head, its attention that was diverted by the eagles was quickly attracted to Yakov who was running towards him.
An enraged roar disgorged through the mouth of the mountain golem as it raised both his hands and brought them down —— the eagles’ shifters weren’t prepared for such an action, they all squawked and tried to get away from the hand that was coming down at them, with their small bodies and quick agility they were able to somehow manage to get past the mountain golem but Yakov...his wolf was neither small nor too swift to change its momentum in just a few seconds. As the hand that was coming down to squash him came crashing, he was a beat too slow to escape from it —-
" First consort!"
" Your highness!"
Screams erupted all over as they watched the mountain golem stretch out his hands, almost grabbing hold of the silvery grey wolf.
