Chapter 139: Death

" Get out of there," shouted a bunch of knights at the maids before they all shifted and leapt at the mountain golem, all of them were particularly fast, however, compared to the eagle shifters who could fly in the air while trying to gauge the eyes of the beast, they weren’t of much help given their sharp claws and teeth were not of much use when compared to the tough exterior of the mountain golem.

One of the lion shifters, with its flaming body, lunged at the golem and let out a loud roar as it spewed fire at the mountain golem but he might have as well tickled it because his flames weren’t even half as strong as the Queen. They couldn’t do any harm to the golem that continued to walk towards the group without even pausing to wave his hands in front of his face, the tall ice bear roared at its subordinates at once before taking two steps back and smashing his fists on the ground —— the other shifters saw what he was doing and immediately retreated just as the ground broke into half, sending clouds of dust flying in every direction.

The attack was well timed, the mountain golem’s feet were stuck in the crack of the ground, the eagle shifters took advantage of the distraction and swooped down heading straight to the mountain golem and just as the knights thought that they were to going to win, they watched the mountain golem raise its hand and smacking one of the eagle shifters.

" No!" Darren shifted back as soon as he saw that something wrong was going to happen, he rushed to the eagle shifter that came crashing down to the ground with a loud bang. He could feel his heart thumping in his chest as he rushed towards the eagle shifter lying on the ground, right now everything happened so suddenly that he couldn’t even think of a chance to order the eager shifters to fall back. " Ron! Ron! Wake up, shift back so that we can heal you. Do it quickly!"

As he dropped to his knees in front of the limp eagle shifter with his eyes closed with no signs of breathing, Darren hurriedly tried to shake him up but as soon as he touched the body of the eagle shifter he felt something gooey sticking on his hands, startled Darren took a look at the vivid red and felt his eyes burn. He looked at the limp eagle with his lips wobbling as he whispered, " Ron ...?"

He wished that the young and energetic young man would shift back at once and reply with a loud, ’ Yes sir!’ But he knew that it wasn’t going to happen anymore. When he was rushing to save Ron, he hoped that Ron was alive but if every hope was answered then there would be no death in this world —— Darren closed his eyes, then opened them after a very long time and looked at the dead eagle. " Rest in peace, you were a good knight."

With his throat burning and eyes glazed with tears, Darren shifted back and then rushed at the mountain golem. He knew that the thing was a lot stronger than before but he wasn’t going to let that thing kill anyone else—— and if possible he was going to take the eyes of that thing as revenge and bury them together with Ron.

Darren wasn’t the only one who was burning with rage upon seeing Ron die like that, everyone who saw the scene in front of them felt as if their hearts were going to be torn. The eagle shifter that died was considerably young and he wasn’t even married yet he was the head of the Eagle squadron, such a talented individual was dead just like that?

The blonde maid stared at the small figure that was lying in the big crater and felt tears sting her eyes as she turned to look at Harley and hissed angrily, " Are you happy now? Because of you, that young knight died. If only you were wise enough to shut your mouth instead of shouting like a banshee nothing like this would have happened! The first consort obviously knew that the knights were preparing to blindside the beast which was why he ran in that direction, how thick are you that you couldn’t even understand anything? Now that someone died, do you finally feel at ease?"

Harley was indeed shocked by what happened, she didn’t expect that someone would die —— in fact, she didn’t expect anything to happen. All she thought was that if she was to help the first consort she will be able to show how deep her affections were but she never thought that someone will die—— it wasn’t her fault though. She never asked them to die like that!

And that guy didn’t even die for her, so how could it be because of her?

He was obviously trying to save the Dragon Queen and was serving her, so he died on duty because of the Queen. What can she do about it?

The more she thought it like that, the more Harley thought like this, and the more she felt that she was in the right. So, she turned around to look at the blonde maid and sneered, " He didn’t die because of me, he died because he was trying to save the Queen. He serves the Queen, not me. If I was here alone, will anyone even look at me? I would have been left to die the second something like this happened, so how is this my fault?"

Listening to Harley’s shameless words, the maids were completely stunned. This ...was this even human speech? That eagle shifter was indeed serving the Queen but he died protecting them! He could have of course turned a blind eye to omegas like them but instead, he chose to fight and keep them safe, the other knights were doing the same because they knew that the mountain golems’ meal consisted of omegas! They were trying their best to keep that thing away from them now that it was attracted in their direction and yet this woman was saying such heartless words with such ease?

Everyone was furious but they didn’t know what to say to her, Harley was rude but she had the power to be rude towards them, she was personally escorted by the first consort to the palace and a few months ago, they were quite cosy with each other, thus even though the maids were upset with her. They didn’t dare to go against Harley at once.

The maids were furious while the blonde maid looked at Harley with sharp blue eyes that were filled with disgust —— Good grace.

" You all what are you looking at," the blonde maid ignored Harley with an ugly expression and turned to look at the rest of the maids as she said, " We need to retreat even further, that thing is coming even closer. The knights wouldn’t be able to stop him for a long time, so move already."

Upon hearing the blonde maid’s words the other omegas looked at the sky-high tall mountain golem and yelped, the thing was indeed closer to them.

They hurriedly took a few steps back as they rushed away from the golem, they didn’t want to stay and become the meal of the beast! Harley too ran with them, after all even if that thing came from her —— she knew that she wouldn’t be able to control it. The omegas started running away from the golem, seeing this the large beast let out an angry roar. His prey was actually getting out of his hands!

Seeing the golem was getting angry, the knights all stepped back. They knew they would not be able to stop it anymore but they couldn’t run from the battlefield...their commander and general didn’t train them for so long only for them to cover their faces and run away in the face of danger. The ice bear stood in front of the other shifters and let out a loud roar, as if to say that they were either going to take that thing down or they will go down trying —— however just as they all lunged at the golem, another roar came from behind.

They all expected to see another Golem rushing in their direction but when they caught hold of the sight of a big grey wolf with amber eyes glinting in the light, all of them secretly heaved a sigh of relief. The chancellor was here —— with him here, they will have a better chance to take this thing down.

Bree felt like she was going to burn down, she didn’t know what happened but the second the golem appeared, her body started to get feverish. In the beginning, it was still bearable but then she watched an innocent knight die right in front of her eyes, and that fire that was burning inside her, started to burn even fiercer...it was as if her body was going to be burnt to crisp. She thought that she already had it worse but then she watched Yakov rush out of his hiding spot and rush towards the golem —— and that was how she nearly lost her mind.
