Chapter 122: Do it quickly

" I...I will answer whatever you will ask, Sir Aileen but please can you put the sword down," said Collin as he placed the tip of his finger on the sharp blade of the sword and pushed it away from his throat but before he could move it away from his neck, the sword was raised even higher pressing against his skin. A little more and he was sure that if he was to say anything wrong, his head would fly like a ball, " If this is about me taking bribes from the others, then I swear I won’t do it again, just give me a chance."

Aileen raised a brow and smiled gently. " This is not about you taking bribes but now that I know we will get to that as well but first we need to solve the thing for which I am here, don’t try to run or take any chances that will get you killed, all right?"

Collin nodded his head, there was no other choice. He had a sword on his neck, he would be a fool to do anything against Aileen at the moment, swallowing he asked, " What ..d.do you want to know?"

" Her majesty, where did she go today?" without wasting another second Aileen asked causing Collin to look away with an awkward expression on his face as he gulped and said, " Do I really have to answer that question?"

His response was the sword digging into his skin.

" I get it, I get it!" Collin raised his head as he hurriedly yelled with his hands up in surrender. He sighed before spitting out the words that were lodged in his throat, " The Queen went to see the fourth consort. I heard from the guards that he was visiting the fair in downtown and that was why the Queen went there to see him but when she returned something about her was wrong and the fourth consort was apologising while following her. That’s the only thing that I know and nothing else, if you want to find anything other than that, then you might as well wrench my heart out but you will still find nothing."

Aileen stared at the carriage driver for a long while and once he was certain that he wasn’t lying, he put his sword back into its sheathe. " You better be saying the truth or else I am going to end your life, once I find out that you lied to me."

" I wouldn’t dare, even if you were to give me another pair of guts," Collin immediately squeaked out, lying to a basilisk. God no, who here doesn’t know that basilisk shifters were as vengeful as they were dangerous?

" Very well," Aileen glanced at the ground and stared at the trembling legs of the man in front of him and understood that he was fully aware of the consequences of lying to a basilisk. So, he nodded his head and turned around to leave, only then did Collin heave a sigh of relief, with his legs giving out under his knees, and he immediately slid down on the floor. " Maybe I should start considering retirement," he touched the grey hair on top of his head and heaved another sigh.

"The fourth consort?" Yakov echoed while staring at the full moon in the sky, his wolf pressing against his skin, releasing another growl. He always knew that the fourth consort was more than just an entertainer, but he turned a blind eye to him, knowing that he was someone special to Bree but —- the premise was that he didn’t create trouble. " Did you find out what happened between the two of them?"

Aileen shook his head. " No one knows about it, the Queen locked herself in the palace and the same could be said for the fourth consort, therefore, I couldn’t find out anything from anyone."

With his hands behind his back, Yakov turned to look at his aide and said, " Ask the fourth consort’s palace to make preparations, I will be visiting them in the next five minutes."

" Yes, my lord."

True to his words, Yakov walked past the door of the gates of Cian’s palace within five minutes and if possible even less causing the entire palace to be thrown into chaos. Jesse rushed past the white door that was twice the size of three humans standing on one another and came to stand in front of Yakov as he hurriedly said, " Please forgive me, first consort. But one consort can never visit another consort’s palace without sending a prior notice."

Yakov calmly glanced at Jesse and said, " I did send word that I will be visiting the fourth consort, didn’t I, Aileen?"

" My master did send the word that he will be coming," said Aileen but he only sent it a few minutes ago, this was something that Aileen very wisely didn’t say out loud.

Jesse frowned as he shook his head. " But I didn’t receive the word that the first consort would be coming."

" That doesn’t concern me," said Yakov swiftly before glancing at the entrance of the palace and tried to walk past Jesse but was immediately intercepted him and said sternly, " Please first consort, you have to follow the code of conduct and you can’t just barge inside the palace without a proper notice."

Yakov didn’t have to say anything as Aileen swiftly stood between the two and calmly smiled. "Let’s not be rude to each other, Sir Jesse. I am afraid that if you were to intercept my master another time then," he spread his hands causing ten thin needles to materialise out of the air. " I am afraid that I will have to take you here and now." His smile turned sinister slowly as he opened his eyes showing the clear whites without the irises. " You do realise how this battle will end right? So, step away please."

" I can’t do that," Jesse raised his head with determination flashing in his eyes as he summoned a straight sword out of thin air. " I was born to be an aide, as long as I am alive, I live for my master. For his sake, I am prepared for any battle."

" I see," said Aileen as he looked over his shoulder. " Master will you step back a little, I will clear the path for you."

Yakov sighed before taking a few steps back. " Do it quickly."

" Yes, master."
