Chapter 84: Dinner In The Vampire Lord’s Chambers II

She cringed at his words as she picked up the silver fork, her gaze settled on the food in front of her, while avoiding his.

This wasn’t going to work, there was no spark or butterfly in her stomach which made it harder to reciprocrate her feelings for him and she was aware of the outcome, he was only hosting her in hopes that he could win her heart, if not, things could go awry.

She would have believed all feelings whatsoever in her were dead, but the fact that she reacted so shamelessly to Draco’s touch made her head spin in a chaotic haze.

She comforted herself with the thought that it could only be as a result of his different nature, making it easy for him to seduce women, nothing more.

The meal in front of her made her stop thinking as she started cutting the steak, making his presence null.

She added some vegetables and cheese, along with nicely prepared sea food, while lord Damien watched her as she ate with keen interest.

She savoured the food as she threw them into her mouth, the exotic taste of the varieties of food made a myriad of colours burst on her tongue, she couldn’t stifle the moan that erupted from her lips in that instant.

Meanwhile, Lord Damien watched her until she caught him staring, as her eyes darted aimlessly to stop on him.

"Can I ask you a question, Lord Damien?" Rama queried, as the thought suddenly popped in her head.

"Of course and please call me Damien." He said with a charming smile tearing through his lips.

His remark made her brows furrow slightly. It was only normal for a lord to be addressed by his title, either by another high ranking individual or a lowly maid, but there he was telling her to get rid of the title and address him casually.

"Uhm, about the seers. Do you know who murdered them?" She queried, as she waited in bated breath for his response.

For a moment, the air went still with a foreboding silence, as if time had frozen itself. She gulped at the unnerving air he elicited with just his silence.

"It’s best if you ask no such question." He said in a clipped tone.

Immediately he spoke, the snuffed out candles in the room were suddenly lit up with burning red flames, elicting light on everything it touched.

The room was finally perceptible to sight and it had not much difference from hers as the gothic setting was almost the same, except for the larger space and even more exquisite items adorning the room, but it educed a contrasting aura, which was darker and heavier, but somewhat warm, probably from the fireplace that crackled as it burned brightly in the middle.

The windows were shut and the crimson velvet curtains were drawn together.

She mostly wondered how the candles were suddenly lit up. It was probably him, but did he harness magic now or was it a trick that came with being a night creature? She pondered.

"I apologise for asking, I was just curious." She said, flashing him a sweet smile.

"It’s alright, enjoy your dinner." Damien said with shrugged shoulders as he watched her.

"How did the candles light up?" She asked with slight uncertainty, hoping she wouldn’t offend him with her words.

"It’s a perk of being a pure bred, I’ll show you more tricks tomorrow or tonight if you wish." He drawled in a mischievous tone.

"Tomorrow is much preferable, it’ll be brighter and the night is cold." Rama said with a nervous chuckle, trying to evade whatever approach he was initiating.

She’d try to be on his good side and conform to his wishes, as long as she was able to give Malika a comfortable life and protect her.

"It doesn’t work that way, using me to protect her, I’ll know you’re faking it anyway, so why bother?" Damien said in a low voice, his words rolling off his lips in a gentle manner.

Even as gently as the words rolled off, Rama’s heart caught to her throat, making her choke. He offered her a glass of water which she cautiously took before gulping down the contents.

"I’m sorry lor- Damien. It’s not right of me to take advantage of you, but I like your company anyway." She said frantically with a nervous smile.

"It’s alright, I’d do the same in your position. I’m not forcing you and I won’t force you to reciprocate your feelings." Damien said with a smile tugging the corner of his lips.

She observed his face keenly, he didn’t seem angered or irritated by the fact she was trying to use him, he seemed rather nonchalant. He must still have some hopes of winning her heart with his gestures.

Deep down, she hoped he would manage to sway her with his charms, but still why did it seem like his charms weren’t working on her in anyway. Any normal lady would have been swooning over his feet, be enchanted by his magnificence, but she was rather unfeeling toward him.

Maybe, she was still in love with Roshan, but her intrusive thought knew better than her that it was only a lie to comfort herself from the truth.

She would have felt repulsed from the thought of being with a vampire, but at least Damien was considerate of her feelings, he was far better in contrast to the other vampires, maybe even humans.

She would think things through properly, until then, she wouldn’t make a decision yet. At least, he was ready to wait, he was patient but he didn’t like wasting his time.

"Thank you, Damien. If it helps, I’ll be more open minded about your confession and put your feelings into consideration too." She stated with sincerity, earning a wide grin on his face as his crimson eyes sparkled with delight.

It must have been the sincerest smile she ever saw on his face.

"It’s good to know you’re willing to think it through, despite your hate for our kind." Damien stated.

"Your sincerity is all that matters and yes, I do hate your kind. After everything, its impossible not to feel that way, but I’ve taken a liking to you." She remarked.

He nodded slowly as if weighing her words in his head.

"What about me do you find likeable?" He queried unexpectedly.

"Your sincerity, gentleness and polite behaviour, overall you have a likeable personality." She said as sincerely as she had seen him.

"But not loveable, I see." He said with a short, dull chuckle.

"That’s unfair, its impossible for me to fall in love within such a short period of time." She remarked with pouted lips.

"I understand, vampires have keen senses they could rely on and with just an encounter, they could make a decision of a lifetime, unlike humans whom waste years making a decision, they call it patience, I call it a waste of time." He said as he took a silver cup, half filled with crimson wine as he sipped on it.

"That’s impressive, hopefully they don’t make the mistake of a lifetime instead." She chipped in, earning a throaty chuckle from him.

"Lyla told me it was hard for you to finally settle down with a woman of your liking, just so you know, there’s nothing special about me. They’re probably tons of fierce, confident and strong headed women out there, plus I’m very stubborn." She stated out.

"They’re tons of vampiresses like that, but you’re a diamond in the rough." He said.

She gave him a small smile as she continued eating. It shouldn’t be too hard to fall in love with someone as charming and courteous as Damien, he had the looks and the personality, what more could she possibly ask for?

Dinner was finally over and lord Damien dismissed her to her chamber after exchanging pleasantries.

A smile danced on her lips as she strode down the hallway to her chamber. Dinner wasn’t so bad, for all it was worth, it was pretty nice being with lord Damien, he gave her a sense of security and comfort, although it didn’t dissuade the lingering air of darkness around him.

She changed into comfortable clothing for the night, it was a silky night dress that hugged her loosely. She couldn’t remember the last time she had felt silk rubbing against her skin, or the last time she smelled like scented oils mixed with rose.

Whether she was a queen or not, she didn’t care, only Malika’s safety and wellbeing mattered to her. It could be a chance to redemption, for her to finally let go of her hate devouring her soul and blackening her heart.

But could it be a chance to true happiness? She pondered to the question ringing in her head she had no answer to.

She moved to the window where she had seen a vase of fresh red roses, but when she looked closer despite the darkness, it was withered and drained of life.

A cold shiver ran down her spine. She could feel Draco’s dark presence even though there was no sign of him, it made her skin crawl.

She was never evading the devil, he had sent a clear message himself, one that was imprinted in her mind.
