Chapter 85: The Devil’s Message
The Devil had sent her a clear message.
One moment it seemed as if she was close to reaching redemption or perhaps a peaceful life where she could let go of her burning hate, but after getting an apparent message from him, it seemed out of reach for her, the flicker of hope in her eyes snuffed out in a beat.
She stepped back, away from the shriveled roses as she slumped on the bed. A peaceful life with lord Damien had crossed her mind, although it didn’t sit right with her since her heart didn’t conform to it, she was rather doing it for Malika.
Moreover, the thought of turning into a vampire and bonding with him for an eternity made her shudder, nothing felt right, but she wasn’t doing it for love, she was doing it for Malika, the only light she had in her dark world.
But, at the end none of it was going to transpire. As long as Draco lived, he would never stop haunting her just to make sure everyday of her life would become a nightmare for her like he had promised, unless he had no choice but to let her go, her intrusive thoughts kicked in.
She swallowed hard as a stray thought crossed her mind.
She could ask lord Damien to turn her into a vampire and mark her with the bond bite, but even with all that, she wasn’t sure he would give up, so it would be in vain after all.
Why would he give up because of a bond bite? He handled everything so frivolously without a care in the world.
He’d go through extreme lengths whatsoever just to torture her and she was undoubtedly sure he’d kill lord Damien if he gained news of the bond bite just to make her suffer some more, he didn’t seem to care about anyone but himself.
It was safer to avoid the bond bite for the meantime, while observing her stay with lord Damien, in hopes that Draco would finally forget about her.
She lay down on the bed, staring out into the glass roof, wondering how her life had taken such an ugly twist of turn, how the universe had turned against her and how everyday seemed to be another living nightmare she was stuck in with no escape route.
She sighed heavily, death didn’t seem like an option, she didn’t want to leave Malika behind and she was sure he was watching her even though he wasn’t there, she could feel his hawking crimson gaze on every action of hers.
She groaned as she felt a splitting headache gnaw through her skull. She had been thinking quite alot and going through a lot of mental stress, it took a toll on her physically.
She closed her eyes to sleep even though she had woken up about an hour ago. She didn’t care how many times she slept, as long as it got rid of the headache, moreover it was a relaxing way to escape for a moment.
Time fleeted and dawn broke as the sun stretched its light through a gap in the closed windows. She squirmed as she fluttered her lashes open.
As soon as she woke up, a knock was heard on the door, followed by the familiar voice of Lyla.
"Hello, young lady I’m here to prepare your bath." The woman’s voice echoed from behind the door.
A sense of nostalgia hit her as she spoke, those words she had thought she would never hear again resounded in her ears, the only difference was that they called her your highness, back in her empire which was nothing but crumbled walls and debris now.
"Come in." She tried to make her voice strong, but it failed her as it came out cracked like the grounds of her fallen kingdom.
The door creaked open as the woman came in, followed by two maids who had a bucket of warm water clutched in their hands.
She gave her a warm smile which she returned as she clambered out of the bed.
"Go on and take your bath, I’ll be done cleaning by the time you’re out." Lyla spoke.
"Thank you, Lyla." Rama said as she watched the two maids exit the room after preparing her bath. They seemed older, like in their mid thirties, but still no side eyes or envious glances from them, rather a forced smile played on their lips, but it was good enough for her.
Rama dashed into the bathing chamber and scrubbed herself clean before coming out. She refrained from taking a head bath since she had one earlier, leaving her hair in slightly disheveled waves.
By the time she was out, Lyla had cleaned the room which barely needed cleaning apart from the ruffled sheets.
She helped her pick a simple, long sleeved, loose cream silky gown with beautiful intricate designs on the bodice and silver embroideries on it.
Lyla helped her style her hair, she partitioned it horizontally, with the upper part styled in a bun, while the lower part was let loose to cascade down her back in silky waves, a few locks fell at the side of her face. She pushed a silver pin into the bun, giving her a finishing look.
Overall, she looked no less than a dainty lady of noble class, she saw the past reflection of herself as a princess staring back at her in the dressing mirror.
Lyla offered to apply makeup on her face and wear her some jewelleries but she refused, she really did not need it and moreover, it was a hassle for her.
"Would you like your breakfast in the dining hall or your room? Lord Damien won’t be joining you this morning for breakfast." Lyla informed her.
"It’s alright, I’ll have breakfast with Malika in the dining hall." Rama said.
"Alright then." Lyla nodded in affirmation before leaving her sight.
It wasn’t such a hassle to find her way to the dining hall as it was situated downstairs.
She caught sight of Malika who was already seated at the long mahogany table with various delicacies seated atop it, cramming the air with the aroma emanating from it. It held chairs that could seat at least thirty people on each side, it made her wonder what he needed it for.
Malika’s face glowed brightly as she flashed her a smile. She was looking no less than the daughter of a nobleman in her outfit, comprising of a blue dress with yellow intricate embroideries and her hair styled in golden ringlets cascading down her back, with golden hairpins pushed into it.
Her face had a bit of makeup applied on it, making her even more ravishing than she already was, courtesy to Madam Lyla.
"You leave me speechless, Malika. You look absolutely stunning!" Rama gasped in delight as she sat next to her.
"You look gorgeous too." Malika said with a small voice as she blushed timidly, her glossy pink lips splitting open.
"Isn’t lord Damien just generous? He treats us like nobles rather than maids, its confusing. We get our own chambers, we even get a dress, and we get princess treatment." Malika sighed dreamily, her amber eyes gleaming in delight.
Her face immediately switched abruptly as it was etched with confusion. She shot Rama a skeptical gaze as she tilted her head.
"What..is going on?" Malika queried, slightly uncertain about her question or the reply she was expecting, but she was well aware there was something brewing and she was left out in the dark.
Rama pressed her lips in a thin line before opening them to speak. At least, she could tell her the truth about lord Damien, after all their fates seemed inconceivable together with Draco in the picture.
"As crazy as it may sound, Lord Damien confessed his feelings to me." Rama spouted out, leaving Malika with enlarged eyes and mouth hanging open in bewilderment, as her hands flew to her mouth.
"How is that possible? He wants to marry you? But how? Why? When?" Malika queried in curiosity and stupefaction, shock washing over her countenance.
"We haven’t gotten to marriage however, he’s rather patient as I haven’t given him an answer yet, so he’s given me time to think about it. He’s courting me in a bid to win my heart, for now." Rama explained, making the girl’s eyes widen even more.
"You accepted his courtship? A night creature? I don’t understand, I thought you loathed them!" Malika’s voice intensified in pure bewilderment.
"I had to. I did it for us, for you. It’s my fault you’re trapped in my nightmare, I’d do anything to make you live comfortably." Rama stated firmly as she breathed out.
Malika kept quiet for a second, the whole place fell into intense silence for a moment, as she studied Rama with a keen gaze.
"You didn’t have to sacrifice your happiness for me." Malika said with a low voice, her face turning sullen.
"What happiness? It died with my kingdom." Rama said blatantly, her jade eyes turned cold.
"Don’t say that, be happy for me. You’re the only thing keeping me happy too, so do the same for me." Malika pleaded as she squeezed her palm lightly in hers.
"That’s why I did this. Would you have been happier living in the castle then?" Rama queried rhetorically, but only silence followed.
"No, you’re happier here and so am I, besides it doesn’t matter if lord Damien is a night creature, he treats me right and I took a liking to him, I could be genuinely happy with him in the future." Rama remarked thoughtfully.
Malika, for a moment was in disbelief that Rama had willingly agreed to be courted by a night creature, she could understand she was doing it for her which left her a bit burdened, but since it was lord Damien, it didn’t seem like a worse fate after all.
"If you’re happy, then I’m happy. Lord Damien is a gracious gentleman after all." Malika said with a small smile.
"What matters is our freedom and peace." Rama said, but a hint of uncertainty lingered in her tone.
