Chapter 140: Tour III

Chapter 140: Tour III

His face turned grim when the children ran towards him as though he was a magnetic giant candy. They took their respectful positions, tugging his hair, clamping his leg and clutching onto his arm while they beged to be thrown up as they stared up at him with twinkling doe eyes.

He was about to toss them off his body again, but then he heard her mellifluous laughter ring in his ears as she laughed heartily at his predicament.

Time as it was, seemed to freeze at that moment as he stared at her face, it was as radiant as the morning sun warming the coldest of hearts, her laughter filled smile was infectious and it seemed as though the area suddenly lit up with her enthralling glow.

He was left dazed as he stared at her, the children’s voice had faded into nothing but distant blabberings and the world had dissipated into dust.

"Draco?" She called with a sheepish grin, snapping him back to reality.

He cleared his throat awkwardly and averted his gaze to the children who were still latched onto him, his face turning grim to conceal the intensity of his feelings.

He cast a withering glare at them, a storm of anger brewing within his red eyes, but what the children could see was a blonde, blue eyed man grinning at them, rather than the devil’s son glaring at them hotly.

"Play with them a bit, they seem to like you." Rama nudged with a sweet smile.

His eyes darted between her radiating face and the annoying yet adorable children all chanting the same thing, for him to throw them up. He wondered why on earth they would want to be thrown up.

’Children and their silly requests.’ he muttered under his breath.

"Play with them instead, I’m not interested." He said dryly as he proceeded to pull them away from his body, but still they came running back with giggles, obviously enjoying the game with the blonde haired man.

"Look, it’s you the children wants to play with, besides didn’t you say you want babies? You should learn how to play with them or you’ll risk being a terrible father." She said with a tease, but then she saw his eyes go dark, although it lasted for only a millisecond.

She pondered on what she had said wrong as the dark look flashing across his eyes did not go unnoticed by her.

He flashed her a crooked charming grin that sent shivers down her spine before staring down at the children.

"Okay, you want to be thrown up, huh?" He queried with a mischievous grin and the children chanted ’YES’, grinning from ear to ear as their big eyes sparkled with excitement.

He rolled his eyes unnoticeably with a grumble, before picking them up one by one and throwing them up in the air within a distance beyond safety, but he always caught them effortlessly with one hand.

One by one, they got thrown up in the air, while they giggled loudly. The passers by smiled at the serene blonde man playing heartily with the children while being unaware of the demon that lurked beneath that mask.

His patience was wearing thin everytime he heard their annoying bubbly giggles, the urge to throw them and refrain from catching them itched his skin, but he managed to control his darks sides, knowing how furious Rama would be if he deliberately let the children fall to their deaths while in midair.

Plus, her sweet, shy smile as she watched him pretensiously play with the children made him harness a little bit more patience, her sweet smile was simply captivating, as if ensnaring his soul into her radiant light.

Some villagers had queried if the children were theirs, and then she would give them a shy demure smile with a negative head shake, it always left him in a dazed trance, she seemed to dote on babies, but it wasn’t something he had pressed significant thoughts on.

Soon after a few rounds of throwing them up, they became too dizzy to stand up on their little feet, lest they would lose their unsteady balance.

"Let’s go." He said as he interlocked his fingers in hers, aware the children could no longer disturb their tour, yet he could hear their bubbly giggles behind them, the aftermath of the throws.

He wondered why they laughed so much. It was utterly irritating, yet while the children giggled as he threw them up, a smile threatened to break through his lips but he stifled it.

Inwardly he swore that if he saw another horde of children, they would be taking their last breaths, after all it wouldn’t be the first time he had killed children.

Fortunately they did not come across any horde of children as they approached a gothic stall selling enchanted amulets, trinkets and so on.

"It wasn’t so bad now, was it?" Rama queried with a sweet voice as they walked hand in hand down the cobblestone path.

"I couldn’t stop thinking of not catching them and rather letting them fall." He replied with an impish smirk.

"You’re utterly unbelievable, they were so adorable and weren’t you the one who wanted to consummate the marriage quickly because you wanted kids?" She snapped at him with squinted observing eyes, but her voice was low.

"I was only teasing you. I don’t want kids." He said dryly, in a-matter-of-fact state.

His statement made her speechless for a moment, her inner goddess hid under the rug in fear of what she was about to spout out, prompted by her intrusive thoughts.

Her mouth opened to let the words freely roll out until the vendor’s hoarse voice interrupted her. He was wearing a tattered cloak, his light red eyes hinting at an otherworldly presence.

"Good day young couples, how may I be of service?" The vendor said heartily and she closed her mouth, now wasn’t the right time to have the conversation with him, so she’d wait until they got back to the castle.

With a smile, she scrutinized the items in the shop and then her gaze dropped on a ruby stoned embedded bracelet and necklace possessing the same designs.

It glinted with a mystique charm as if the very rays of sunlight burned within the ruby stones. Subconsciously she picked the necklace and bracelet up, running her fingers over the glinting stone in awe, with every movement, it made a twinkling noise as if the sound of magic was infused in it.

The ruby stones were connected with gold chain stringents, it emitted an otherwordly force of ethereality but mostly, gave her a sense of serenity.

"You got it from the white witch’s market, didn’t you?" She queried the vendor and he nodded.

"Yes miss, this enchanting piece of work is imbued with white magic forged with the eternal flames of hell. Once worn, demons and evil entities are warded away from you because the white witch queen used the flames of hell against demons, mixing it with her white magic." The vendor narrated.

"Ahh, is that so?" Draco said amused by the origin of the ruby trinkets.

"Can I see that? It’s very entertaining indeed." He drawled as he extended his hand toward the necklace, but Rama quickly pulled her hand back as she flinged the trinkets aside, panic etched on her face as she yelled "No, don’t touch it!" aware it was meant to ward off demons and he was one.

The attention of a few passers by and the vendor dropped on her.

"It’s alright love, he’s wrong about the origin anyway." He whispered into her ears with assurance.

Her racing heart calmed down as she smiled apologetically at the vendor.

"We’ll take both the necklace and the bracelet." Draco stated and the vendor nodded.

"It’s 30 gold coins." The vendor informed and Draco took out a pouch of gold coins which he nonchalantly threw at the vendor before snatching the necklace and bracelet. The vendor merely stared at him with mouth agape like a fish while they walked away.

"The necklace will look better on you." He said and without waiting for her reply, he wound the necklace round her neck and clamped the pin shut.

Immediately it was placed around her neck, she felt a slight burn on her flesh where the ruby had touched, but then it disappeared as quickly as it came.

He wound the bracelet round his wrist and displayed it to her view, making her smile in satisfaction.

"Anything looks good on you, the universe is unfair." She said with pouted lips.

"I know love, want to eat something?" He queried as his eyes stopped on a food stall.

"Yes, of course. I’ve never eaten roadside meals before, I wonder what it tastes like." She said excitedly with a smile as she hopped toward the food stall.

For once, she felt like she could truly breath without having to suffocate in her problems, for the first time in her life, she took the fresh breath of normalcy. She felt like a typical village girl enjoying the normalcy of an ordinary life, but most of all, she realized how doing simple things with this peculiar demon made her the happiest she had ever been.
