The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 169: Enemy or Ally
Chapter 169: Enemy or Ally
Trapped in the wall of flames, the creature halted on fleeing from Cinn. It turned around and revealed its disgusting appearance.
Upon seeing this, a smile blossomed from the demon king’s daughter’s lips. She raised her hand, and with a single snap of her fingers, the blue flame vanished before burning down the pillars of the prison.
"Who sent you here?" Cinn asked, her voice laced with curiosity.
But the only reply she got was an ear-piercing screech. Then, the monster dashed towards her with its claws aiming for her neck.
Cinn raised her weapon to defend, and as soon as the edges of her sword collided with the monster’s claws, they were set ablaze.
"This blade..." she uttered while looking at her sword.
Then she moved her gaze to the creature struggling from the heat of her flames. Even she was surprised about what happened. She only wanted to parry the monster’s attack; after all, she was interested in its origin. Burning it to nothingness was never a part of her plan.
So, upon seeing the flames growing more intense and powerful, she stopped channeling energy into her weapon. The Translucent Inferno returned to its neutral state, and the flames on the monster’s body dissipated.
The next second, without a single hint of hesitation, Cinn lunged towards the monster, the tip of her cane thrust into its head, bursting its skull open. And as soon as she pulled out her weapon, the creature’s carcass fell on the floor.
Cinn looked at its charcoal-colored body for a second and decided to drag it towards the hallway. The blood dripping from its head painted the path with a dark crimson hue.
Then after accomplishing several strides, she managed to reach the cell with a demon hanging in chains.
"Wake up, Zephryx," she ordered.
With just a wave of her hand, the chains that made the demon suffer started to burn, and as soon as it turned into ashes, Zephryx fell flat on the floor.
Cinn dropped the corpse and crouched next to the unconscious demon. The bruises and wounds present on his body made Cinn’s heart sink to sadness. There were even traces of burn marks and scraped flesh on his chest.
"Zephryx," she tried to wake him up, but she got no response.
His energy was still deteriorating, and the interval of his pulse was becoming longer and longer.
Upon realizing how bad Zephryx’s situation was, Cinn carried him out on her shoulder.
"Hang in there," she said.
Then, she ran as fast as she could; every second to her was important; she must reach the entrance and let Aichelle pick them up.
Upon reaching the stairs leading to the second level, she saw the old man waiting above, but she just ignored him. She had no extra time to waste, after all.
However, as soon as she passed him, the old man spoke, which made her halt.
"What’s the hurry? I can fix him," Professor Sid stated.
Then he turned around to look at Cinn.
"Right here, right now. Letting the Demon King’s butler die is such a waste," he added with a smile to show his sincerity.
"I don’t trust humans," Cinn replied and resumed on her steps.
Her mother and her good-for-nothing father were killed due to human interference. Even Zephryx was in that state because of the work of a human.
As soon as Professor Sid heard the reply, he kept his mouth shut and just let the woman run towards the end of the hallway. And after she disappeared from his sight, he glanced in one of the cells and spoke while caressing his beard.
"How long are you going to pretend to be a prisoner?" He asked.
Then, the sound of prison bars getting crumpled reverberated in the area. Several seconds later, a man holding his neck walked out and greeted the old man.
"I still can’t fool you, Professor. You and your reasoning are truly terrifying," the man stated.
"Drop the act. Why did you let your most valuable possession escape from your clutches?" The old man answered.
"I don’t care about him anymore; I’m already done with him, and besides, I have a new one here," the man replied.
Then he moved a step forward, and flies came out from his clothing. The swarm of insects flew around the man; some even landed on Professor Sid’s head.
"It would be one of my greatest honors; to conduct experiments on your body would be a pleasure. Having the most intelligent researcher and the most wanted criminal inside my torturing chamber is making my blood boil with excitement," the man added.
Upon hearing this, Professor Sid just laughed; he wasn’t even bothered by the numerous flies.
"This old man is already old; having him experience torture during this age is not a very good idea," Professor Sid said.
Afterward, the flies flying and circling above the place fell one after the other. And the moment the last fly dropped on the floor. Both of the two men clashed with their fists, making the underground prison tremble in a violent manner.
. . . . .
Up above the ground, with the arrival of the Dragon King and the Siren Queen, the humans saw a thread of hope.
Salamander looked around him, and upon seeing the black dragon fighting with Kreigster, Salamander couldn’t help but feel disheartened.
"Why would a dragon tarnish our pact with the humans?" He stated, disappointed, his eyes filled with confusion.
However, upon staring at it for a second, he realized something was amiss; the dragon that invaded the humanity’s empire was not part of his troupe.
The only black dragon that he knew was the missing Cyanide; aside from him, there was no other dragon with black-colored scales.
As soon as Kizhaia stepped down from Salamander’s palm, the red dragon flapped his wings and flew near the entrance of the city.
Then, upon coming closer, Salamander felt dumbfounded; the other dragon was a few times bigger than him.
During his contemplation, the black dragon glanced at him while holding his ground against Kreigster’s phoenix.
"Well, well, well. What do we have here? The foolish, self-proclaimed king has arrived." The black dragon glared at Salamander; his eyes were looking at him with disgust.
. . . . .
"Where are you, Ren?" Kizhaia uttered, searching for the hero’s whereabouts.
The corpses scattered everywhere made her gulp a mouthful of saliva. She couldn’t fathom the status of the empire’s city.
Then, while looking for Ren, she found someone she knew.
"No, it can’t be! Augustus!" She exclaimed, her voice filled with worry.
She landed next to the old emperor lying on the cold ground. His eyes were still open, but she found no traces of life from him.
"Please forgive me; maybe if I had arrived a little bit earlier, I would have been able to save you," she remorsed, and beads of tears started to form in the corners of her eyes.
The Queen of Siren was disheartened, and after a few more seconds, the teardrops she did her best to conceal dripped down on her face.
Afterward, she closed Augustus’ eyes and sent his corpse inside a bubble, but she didn’t stop with the emperor. She sent all the corpses she saw inside the bubbles of water.
Then, after a while, she saw Ren, lying on the ground as well. Her heart skipped a beat before she immediately went into him.
’He’s alive.’ Kizhaia let out a sigh of relief upon confirming Ren’s safety.
Like the others, she sent the hero into one of her bubbles as well. Then, she continued to proceed on what she was doing until she arrived in an area where a silver-haired demon could be seen standing with his eyes closed.
Kizhaia made several tridents of water, floating next to herself. She even took a step back as a safety measure while confirming the man’s identity.
. . . . .
A while ago, Zeno was looking above at the sky; then the next second he closed his eyes and uttered a name.
"Eliana," he whispered.
Then, a thin white line encircling Zeno appeared with him as the center of it. The diameter kept on increasing as seconds passed by.
’Where are you, Uoiea?’ The demon general pondered while repeating the process of scanning.
Afterward, he noticed a presence moving closer to him; it was none other than the Siren Queen. And a few seconds later, he sensed an attack being aimed at him, so he opened his eyes and turned around to face the woman.
"Are you an enemy or an ally?" Kizhaia asked, preventing herself from stuttering.
However, the silver-haired demon kept his mouth shut and just looked straight at her. This made Kizhaia even more anxious; having a pair of dull and lifeless eyes staring at her sent shivers down her spine.
"Depends on what you’re about to do. Launch those things, and the sirens would need to select a new queen," Zeno finally answered, giving out a warning with the coldest tone he could muster.
