The Demon King's First General -
Chapter 170: Orb of Destruction
Chapter 170: Orb of Destruction
Kizhaia stood right there; she stared at the silver-haired demon, and her body began to shake in fear.
"Don’t come any closer," she pleaded as she took another step backward.
Zeno unleashed a portion of his energy, enough to threaten the Queen of Sirens. Thus, making her breathing hard and rough.
"W-Who are you?" Kizhaia asked while trying to resist the suffocating presence.
Then, she noticed the red dice dangling from the man’s earrings, and her eyes widened in surprise.
"Quintessence Cage?" She murmured; her voice escaped like a choked whisper.
Zeno’s brows furrowed, and he moved closer to the siren. He looked her straight into the eyes.
Meanwhile, the tridents aiming at the demon collapsed and fell onto the ground, making it wet.
"You’re a soul devourer," Kizhaia said, her breath becoming more intense as the time continued to pass.
"You’re quite knowledgeable about demons," Zeno replied.
Then the corners of his lips curled upward.
"Are you not afraid that I might take your soul?" He added, still wearing the playful grin.
Kizhaia gulped; she remained frozen for a moment while thinking for an answer to save her life, and after another second, she spoke.
"You won’t, because you don’t find my Legacy interesting enough to be part of your collections," she said, still afraid to anger the demon.
But contrary to her expectations, Zeno let out a short chuckle, and the suffocating pressure disappeared, giving Kizhaia some space to stabilize her breathing.
"Wise enough," Zeno uttered before turning around and walking away.
Beads of sweat appeared on Kizhaia’s forehead; she felt a little hotter as he looked at the demon’s back. Her knowledge about demons saved her from demise.
Though, at the same time, she was astonished despite being afraid. After all, seeing one of the cardinal demon races brought her extreme excitement.
However, questions began to form inside her thoughts. As far as she knew, soul devourers were already extinct, and the last one of them was being held captive in the underworld.
’If that’s the case... How can this be? If that’s really the Quintessence Cage, then it only meant one thing,’ she contemplated while holding the temple of her head.
The next second, she ran towards the demon and called him out after reaching a certain distance.
"Please wait!" She yelled.
Zeno halted on his steps and looked behind him. He didn’t speak nor show any contempt. He just stood there and waited for what the woman wanted to say.
Kizhaia inhaled a deep one before opening her soft lips.
"Would you mind if I ask you to assist us?" Kizhaia sought help.
"Are you not scared of me?" Zeno replied with a question.
This caught the Siren Queen off guard, making her mind blank for a second.
"N-No—I-I mean, yes, I’m afraid of you," she answered, stuttering.
"But I believe that not all demons are rotten... Even Cinhard... the late Demon King was not that bad," she added, blushing.
Upon hearing her sentiment, Zeno couldn’t help but shake his head; then he smiled and looked straight into the woman’s eyes.
"It’s not my fight," he said, which caused Kizhaia to be a bit disappointed.
"But I’m a little frustrated, and I need to divert my attention elsewhere," Zeno added, smiling.
A smile blossomed from Kizhaia’s lips as well; her beauty was enhanced on a whole new level, worthy of a queen’s title, but still not enough to move the soul devourer’s heart.
. . . . .
Bombarded with fireballs and burning lava, Blackwell conjured a thick layer of energy to defend himself. Smoke rose from Salamander’s mouth as he let out a thunderous roar; Kreigster even enhanced the attack with his purple flames.
But despite receiving the full blast, the black dragon emerged unscathed.
"Damn it!" Kreigster cursed.
After battling for almost an hour without any rest, he felt exhausted, his energy almost depleted, and yet, his opponent was still standing before him. Even with Salamander around, he couldn’t see them winning against that creature.
"Hey, big lizard. Do you have some sort of plan to take down your cousin?" Kreigster asked.
"I’m afraid I don’t have any," Salamander replied as soon as he heard the prince’s question.
Afterward, Kreigster cancelled out his Legacy and leaped into Salamander’s back.
"Let me recover some of my energy first; entertain him for a while," he said.
"Hold on tight," Salamander replied.
The next second, his claws started to burn; even his wings and tails were set ablaze. Then, he jolted towards the black dragon and upon closing the distance, he swang its claw, aiming for Blackwell’s neck.
The clouds were split in half, but the main target of the attack managed to dodge. However, Salamander’s attacks were not done yet; he spun around and slammed his burning tail into the black dragon.
Blackwell raised his hand and caught Salamander’s tail; he wasn’t bothered by the intensity of the flames. Afterward, he threw the Dragon King into the ground, causing the buildings to collapse and a crater to form.
Salamander was astounded and startled at the same time; he blinked for a few seconds while looking at Blackwell above. Then, he stood up and opened up his mouth. He let out another roar aimed at the black dragon, but this time, the blast was compacted and stronger than before.
However, Blackwell didn’t levitate right there doing nothing; he inhaled a deep breath, and as soon as he opened his mouth, a thick layer of black energy was unleashed towards Dragon King.
Salamander’s roar paled in comparison with Blackwell’s; the black energy ate the dragon king’s flame blast. If not for Kreigster deploying a flame barrier at the very last second, they would be done by now.
’Impossible, I am the strongest dragon... How? Where did this guy come from?’ He asked himself, curious about the existence of the black dragon before him.
"Too weak, relying on a human’s help," Blackwell commented all of a sudden; his voice echoed into the sky.
His mockery caused Salamander to lose his focus, and he charged towards the Black Dragon.
"Salamander! Stop! Hey! Wait a second!" Kreigster shouted, but the Dragon King ignored his call and continued to move upward.
Upon seeing this, Blackwell raised his hand and pointed one of his fingers at the incoming red dragon. Traces of black energy started to gather on it, forming a small orb.
"Farewell, self-proclaimed king," Blackwell stated and flicked the black orb towards Salamander.
Upon seeing the orb, the Dragon King opened up his mouth and spewed a giant fireball.
"You never learned," the black dragon said while watching how the black orb consumed the fireball upon contact.
As soon as Kreigster saw this scene, he turned into a ball of fire and distanced himself away from the orb’s trajectory.
"Hey! Wake up, damn lizard! Move out of its way!" He shouted at the top of his lungs before leaving.
However, as if he didn’t hear Kreigster scream, Salamander just stared into the attack while continuing to advance.
Seconds before the collision, he began to cover himself in flames while questioning his strength.
’I won’t lose to any other dragon,’ he thought.
But the next moment, a black lightning zipped, and a black-haired man appeared before him and struck him with a kick on his side, sending him away from his imminent demise.
Therefore, the newly arrived individual was caught in the explosion of black energy instead of the Dragon King. The diameter of the blast disintegrated everything in a hundred-meter radius.
However, to everyone’s surprise, the moment the dust and smoke dissipated, a jet-black shield with a white dot located on each of its four corners stood up there. Afterward, the giant piece of metal disappeared as soon as the dice located at its center spun and the surface with five white dots glowed.
The next second, Zeno appeared unscathed; on his hand was a jet-black scythe with its shaft resting on his shoulder.
With a smile, he looked at the black dragon and asked.
"How’s Eimereen? Is she doing fine?" He said.
Upon hearing the woman’s name, Blackwell flapped his wings and let out another roar directed at the man. However, Zeno deflected with ease the same attack that almost killed the Dragon King and Kreigster several moments ago.
"Who are you to mention her name!" Blackwell sneered.
"Then let me remind you of who I was," Zeno replied.
In a blink of an eye, the scythe in his hand vanished, and as soon as jet-black twin daggers materialized on his hands, he disappeared as well from his position and then reappeared in front of the black dragon’s head.
Blackwell was surprised by his sudden appearance; he raised his hand and tried to catch the man. But the moment he did, he received a heavy punch on his abdomen. Right after that, while being occupied because of the pain, a flash of black lightning jolted downwards, striking his whole body.
Then Zeno positioned above him and struck his head with a vertical kick, sending him downward. Blackwell found himself several feet below ground, in the middle of a crater. Then, the man descended next to him, still wearing an outrageous smile while fidgeting with a black dice between his fingers.
"Still not remembering a thing?" Zeno said, and the next set of events made the onlookers drop their jaws in astonishment.
Blackwell stood up; he placed both of his hands on the ground and even bowed his head to the point that it touched the dirt as well.
"I, Blackwell, greet the Demon King’s General, the Manipulator of Souls," he uttered, his voice filled with respect while his body trembled in fear.
