Chapter 168: Humanoid Beast

Cinn reached the end of the hall; however, there were no stairs going down to the third level.

’How can this be?’ She thought while looking around, scanning the area she was in.

’Is there some sort of mechanism to activate for the entrance to the third level to appear?’ She pondered as she looked at the wall before her.

She concentrated a portion of energy on her eyes to see hidden traces that would lead her towards the other level; however, several minutes had already passed, and the wall was still standing out there in front of her.

"This is somewhat frustrating," Cinn murmured, and he started to channel her energy into the cane.

The Translucent Inferno was set ablaze, burning with majestic blue flames. Cinn stepped backward and raised her hand, ready to slash the wall in front, but to her surprise, it opened all of a sudden.

With a clattering sound, accompanied by a short trembling on the floor, the thick piece of cement raised upward, unveiling a series of steps leading downward.

The sword turned back into a cane as soon as Cinn stopped channeling her energy. Then she looked behind her and saw the old man smiling while holding a candlelight.

"Sometimes, you need to move a little bit further away to see and understand things better," the professor stated.

"Not all obstacles could be solved by force," he added.

"But as far as I remember, the one who sits at the top is the strongest," Cinn declared before turning her head in the front and walking down the stairs.

Professor Cid looked at her until she disappeared from his point of view.

"She really takes the reasoning of her father," she said while still smiling.

Then, Djaleryse walked in front of the old man and faced him.

"She’s not wrong, though; in this world where war is an everyday occurrence, only those who are strong enough to survive determine what’s wrong..." She paused for a second and crossed her elbow on her chest before continuing. "And what’s right."

Afterward, behind her shadow, emerged a creature that was twice her height. Its slit-gold eyes stared at the old man, but he ignored it and didn’t even bother to look back.

Instead, his sole focus was on the denim-haired woman who had a playful grin on her face.

"I hope you wouldn’t mind if I stir the pot a little bit. I just want to know if her strength was enough to utter such a phrase," Djaleryse conveyed with excitement.

However, the expression of the professor was not something she had expected. She already thought about it a while ago, and based on her delusions, the old man would be mad about the idea, but instead, his laughter reverberated across the hall.

This made Djaleryse frozen for a second until Professor Sid’s reply sank into her mind.

"It’s plain stupidity, Cinhard Beelze and Anelia de Stygia. A child born from the flesh and blood of those two monsters is quite scary, don’t you think? A mere beast would not stand a chance," he said.

Then he walked past the woman and looked at the creature.

"Although, at some point, your idea is interesting," he added.

Afterward, he pulled something from inside of his dress’ pocket and stabbed it into the monster, causing it to let out a terrifying shriek. The old man ignored its cry and continued to inject the blue serum onto its head.

The creature raised both of its claws and was about to attack the old man, but a single snap from Djaleryse’s fingertips rendered it motionless.

"Now, go on a rampage and be our sacrifice to measure that child’s potential!" Professor Cid exclaimed.

The next second, a set of wings was unleashed from the creature’s back while a sharp, elongated horn emerged in the middle of its head. Then, its size shrank, and it stood with just its hind leg.

The mindless beast turned into a humanoid monster. It looked at the old man and smiled. Its mouth was wide enough to reach its ears and was filled with razor-sharp teeth.

Djaleryse stared at her summoned beast; its appearance was now completely different from before.

"What have you done, Professor? It’s one of my favorites," she complained, but it only lasted for a few seconds as she walked towards the creature and put her finger on its chest.

The next second, she moved her fingertip, and a magic circle materialized from its body. Then cracks started to appear on the surface of the magic circle before it shattered into thin air.

"Go and get lost! I’m not interested in ugly-looking things," Djaleryse ordered in a serious manner; her playful demeanor couldn’t be seen.

After revoking the beast from the contract, Djaleryse turned around and left.

"I lost my interest; I’ll wait above," she said as she walked in the opposite direction.

The man holding an hourglass looked at her back and spoke.

"She really has a temper," he commented before redirecting his focus back onto the continuous pouring of sand.

"Don’t mind her, she’s still a child," Professor Sid answered without averting his eyes from his creation.

He didn’t speak any further and just gave a simple nod, then the beast disappeared from his sight.

. . . . .

Contrary to Cinn’s expectations, the third level of the Sinner’s Confinement was quite different.

"I thought this place would be more sinister. The war prisoners are here after all," Cinn uttered while looking around.

She already knew where Zephryx was the moment she went down the stairs. Despite his energy presence being meager, she still managed to detect his whereabouts. She was just curious how the other prisoners looked after experiencing torture from the cruel hands of humanity.

Almost all the people contained in the cell were already dead. Dwarves and elves, even a few beastmen scattered on both sides of the hall. Their limbs were cut, and eyeballs on a skewer decorated the area. There was even a foul stench coming from feces and rotten corpses.

However, it didn’t impress Cinn in the slightest. She found it gentle compared to how they tortured the war prisoners in the Demon King’s Palace.

’It’s not called torture if you let them die; they must live; barely hanging by a thread is enough. Don’t give them peace.’ Cinhard’s voice echoed inside her mind.

Since then, this became Cinn’s standard for torturing individuals.

’Anyway, it’s not my concern. I must free Zephryx and return back to Aichelle,’ she thought.

Then, she sprinted towards Zephryx’s location; however, a sudden gust of wind made her halt in her tracks. She began to scan the surroundings, searching for another’s presence, but the place was empty. This realization made her furrow her brows.

The gust of wind a while ago was sharp, and it was not a common occurrence in a place enclosed with thick cemented walls.

"You don’t want to reveal yourself, huh? Then I’ll make you appear before me," she stated.

Afterward, she tapped the cane, and the place already filled with silence lost its ability to produce sound. The strong wind came howling once more; this time, there was not a single noise, but the violent shift of airflow was a lot stronger.

The turbulence continued for a while, causing Cinn to receive small cuts on her body, though it healed right away. The next second, droplets of blood started to fall from above, but Cinn stood still; she held the cane in her right hand while her eyes were roaming around, following the traces of the droplets of blood.

This lasted for a few more seconds, and the moment she stepped backward, a deep claw mark appeared on the concrete ground where she was previously standing.

Then, a silhouette of a humanoid beast appeared before the daughter of the Demon King; it was drenched in blood like what Cinn intended.

Opening her domain, where all those who made even the smallest sound possible would receive a wound equal to the volume of the noise they produced.

"What kind of monster is that?" Cinn asked.

Even though she could picture the beast’s appearance, she couldn’t identify its kind.

A humanoid beast with a pair of wings along with a long horn located at the center of its head. A monster born from an experiment was standing before Cinn.

’What in the world is this abomination?’ She thought with a curious gaze.

With the monster already appearing in front of her, Cinn dashed right away. On her right hand was a burning blade, aiming for the creature’s neck. However, the monster flapped its wings and went above the ceiling. Cinn followed as well; layers of energy formed underneath her feet, allowing her to run into the air.

Then, she whistled, and a wave of sonic sounds pierced the monster’s ears, interrupting its movement. The chase lasted for a minute as the monster’s agility overwhelmed the white-haired woman.

So, she unleashed her blue flames, which soon blocked her opponent’s path to freedom.
