The Demon King's First General
Chapter 110: Far More Dangerous

Chapter 110: Far More Dangerous

"Did he say Nahrin?" Sentry asked while staring at the demon.

"Your hearing sense is incredible. I didn’t hear a thing, but he did utter a word," Jez answered.

"You’re not mistaken, he said, Nahrin. What does it mean?" Heaire confirmed and asked the next moment.

Sentry sighed before answering the psycopomp’s question.

"It was a name... a demon who mastered the art of deception, a being who lived her life deceiving others," he explained.

"Is that some kind of chant? What’s the connection between him uttering that name?" Royle asked.

"No, he’s calling that demon’s soul for him to use her Legacy," Heaire said.

And the two mercenaries’ nodded in affirmation, but still, amazement was present on their faces.

"So what can this Nahrin’s Legacy do?" The Ruby-class mercenary asked while the rest of the group looked at the dragon-centipede monster, waiting for his answer.

"Nothing; her Legacy had nothing special when it came to battle," Sentry stated, which caused the humans to knit their brows.

"Even I was trying to understand how he would use that ability when the best it could do was to gather someone’s entire focus," Sentry added.

All of the beings present in the area contemplated the matter upon hearing the answer from the monster, except for Jez, whose thoughts differed from the rest.

’Did I hear it wrong, or did he just call himself the Demon King’s General?’ He asked inside his mind.

. . . . .

Arguise laughter echoed in his response to Zeno’s declaration. It was soon followed by a gust of wind as he dashed towards the silver-haired demon.

A few steps away before their collision, he leaped.

"Show me all you’ve got! Eighth Sovereign!" He yelled, striking down his hammer from above.

However, the scythe’s blade blocked the crystallized hammer, and with a little push, Zeno parried the huge weapon.

"An ounce would be enough," the demon said.

The next second, the minotaur’s left arm was cut without his knowledge.

’What? I didn’t even see him swing,’ Arguise thought as he glanced at the blood flowing from his cut limb, which darkened the beige sand.

Zeno looked at the minotaur’s confused face and spoke with a teasing tone.

"I’ve already told you, let’s do this fast, haven’t I?" He repeated.

Afterward, he walked a little closer to the monster and smiled.

"Just because your power can rival deities, you think that you can take on a sovereign. Do not compare us to those self-proclaiming gods," he stated.

Extreme anger enveloped Arguise’s mind, and he immediately smashed his hammer into the demon without thinking.

"Who are you to lecture this Lord?" He retorted.

Zeno stepped sideways to evade, and he jumped afterward. The next second, his right foot landed on the minotaur’s face before repositioning himself at the monster’s back.

"Didn’t you say who I was a few seconds ago?" The demon uttered, and without doing a thing, Arguise’s head flew off.

A fountain of blood spurted out of the minotaur’s body before it fell on the sand, void of life.

Few moments after, Zeno tossed the scythe upward and it reverted back to its neutral form before falling into his palm once more. Then he looked at the beings at his side and spoke.

"Let’s head back and resurrect your ill-mannered friend," he said with a bored expression like usual even though he just performed something beyond ordinary.

. . . . .

"Arthur?" A woman with dark blue wings and a small, slender tail uttered after entering a dense forest. Her voice captured the attention of the inhabitants inside, causing them to peek at her existence.

Afterward, behind a tree, another woman showed herself and confronted the intruder.

"What is a succubus doing here in broad daylight?" She asked while holding a set of black cards with white skulls forming a circle as its back design.

She was staring at them while her silver hair shone as the light coming from the gaps of the tree leaves passed through, highlighting her tone-white skin.

The woman glanced at her side and replied with another question.

"Where’s Arthur?" She said.

"I don’t know, and even if I do, I won’t tell you, so you may now leave," the silver-haired woman answered without averting her eyes from the cards.

However, instead of getting disappointed, an evil smile flashed from the succubus’ lips.

"You’re too young to order someone around like me," she said, and dark blue orbs with odd-looking shapes manifested into thin air. Seconds later, they flew straight towards the maiden.

The woman sighed and pulled a card from her hand.

"This is madness," she uttered, and then she flipped the card to show it to the succubus. It contained a figure of a jester, drawn in red and black.

Afterward, she lifted her eyes and looked straight at the projectiles coming in front of her.

There were almost a dozen of them, and it was too late for her to evade. The next second, a set of explosions reverberated in the area, and the succubus’ smile turned even wider.

However, her jaw dropped upon seeing that the woman was unscathed after getting hit by her attack.

She was still standing in her position, and her eyes were now staring at the succubus. They appeared dull and lifeless.

"We’ll continue this, or you’ll leave this place right now, and we’ll pretend that nothing happened. Make a choice," she stated before shuffling the cards in her hands.

"She’s dangerous," the succubus uttered in silence, then a silhouette came from behind her and whispered in her ear.

"And I’m far more dangerous than her," it said.

Then all of the woman’s hair stood up, and she immediately jumped sideways to move away from the owner of the voice.

She was about to yell and curse the entity who approached her when a familiar laughter echoed in the forest.

"Arthur!" She exclaimed.

"So what are you doing here, Nahrin?" The man replied.

"Are you ready to give up your soul?" He added.

"Sort of!" Nahrin said.

"Hmnn, I’m listening." The man nodded and smiled.

In that moment, the succubus took a second to glance at the woman before reverting her eyes to the man in front of her.

’I didn’t notice it earlier, but there’s a resemblance,’ she thought.

Then she exhaled a deep breath and stated her purpose for coming deep into the woods.

"Let’s make a deal; show me what my Legacy can really do, and after a certain period of time, my soul is yours!" She proposed with all her might.

"Now, we’re talking," the man answered, smiling.

Then he made a step forward and spoke once again.

"Tell me first what you know about your Legacy," he said.

The succubus put her finger on her lips upon hearing the demon.

"Taunting enemies, even allies, gathering their attention on me and me alone," she replied.

"Seducing is the right term," the woman chimed in while arranging the cards on her hand.

Her words caught the attention of the succubus, making her stare at her with evil glares.

"Capturing someone else’s attention is the main function of your Legacy, but what if you can go even further beyond this?" Arthur stated.

"W-What do you mean? I-I d-don’t get it," Nahrin replied; confusion was evident on her face.

"Have you tried making your target focus on just one part of your body?" Arthur answered, but the succubus was still dumbfounded by what the man was trying to convey to her.

Upon seeing this, Arthur drew out a black dice from his pocket and let it spin on his palm.

The moment the surface with five white dots glowed a bright light, a jet-black scythe materialized on his hand.

"In every fight, we always tend to watch for the opponents’ next move; we carefully examine the path that their weapons will traverse." Arthur started explaining while spinning the weapon between his fingers.

"But what will happen if you take away this freedom from them?" He added before throwing the scythe above.

Nahrin looked at the weapon; she waited for it to go down, but it vanished in thin air. Then, as she reverted her gaze to the man, he disappeared as well from her line of sight.

"You can think of it as limiting your opponent’s senses to just a part of your body instead of gathering their whole attention in the entirety of you. I have something important to do; the next time we meet... is the day for you to do your part of the deal," Arthur’s voice echoed within the forest, which left the succubus speechless.

"So would you like for us to continue where we stopped?" The woman asked.

She was still there, busy arranging her cards.

"Come to think of it, I still don’t have a succubus in my collection, and it happens that there’s one before myself," she blurted out of nowhere.

This comment of hers made Nahrin dash away from her. She just realized who that woman was.

’I need to get out of this place!’ She thought while flapping her wings.

Meanwhile, the woman showed no concern for the succubus fleeing from her; instead, she silently turned around and moved deeper into the woods.

. . . . .

Silence enveloped the group of mercenaries; even the snake and the dragon-centipede monster just gulped as they processed the scene that transpired before their eyes.

"T-The Third Commander in less than a minute... That’s unbelievable," Heaire uttered.

"Sentry, why didn’t Arguise evade his attacks?" Tencent asked; he was clueless about what really happened.

The battle between the two seemed normal to them; the demon swung his scythe, but the minotaur just stood at his position without any countermeasure. And apart from that, it occurred not once but twice, and the last one took away the Third Commander’s life.
