The Demon King's First General
Chapter 109: Glimpse of A Sovereign’s Power

Chapter 109: Glimpse of A Sovereign’s Power

"Cut it out; I’m starting to get bored," Zeno uttered.

His eyes were now staring at nowhere when he spoke. His words captured the attention of all.

The psychopomp glanced at him with curiosity. Tencent gulped and waited for things to unfold while the mercenaries looked at the demon for a second before shifting their eyes towards the strange creature in front of them.

Sentry heard Zeno loud and clear, but he chose to stay silent and observe the demon’s next course of action.

"Book here, book that. Stop saying useless things that are not here," Zeno stated, and he stepped forward before lifting his head and looking into the monster’s eyes.

"I just want to witness a resurrection, nothing more, nothing less," he added, tossing the black dice up in the air.

"If I need to destroy this damn place just for me to find that ball of fire, I would be very much obliged to," he declared.

"Even if it’s you, the entire army of the fallen is not that easy to deal with, especially with the First Commander around," Sentry replied.

He stared back at the demon without any fear, unlike the others, especially Tencent, whose senses became numb after hearing Zeno’s declaration.

’Destroying this place? Is that even possible?’ He asked inside his mind.

As pawns of the deities, the thought of escaping this so-called prison never crossed their minds. They just went with the flow of time, waiting for the deities to free them.

Even though their purpose for putting their army in such a place had never been spoken, their obedience to those higher beings was absolute, yet he himself, a commander, was helping a demon at this very moment.

’No, I’m only doing this for the sake of saving my life," the snake justified his actions, but he couldn’t erase the demon’s statement earlier inside his head.

"Destroying and fighting are two different things, aren’t they?" Zeno said.

"And besides, who told you that a mere minion had a chance to win against me?" He added.

Now, it was Sentry who just stared at the demon, thinking of an answer.

’He’s not bluffing; he will really tear this place down. I need to convince him,’ he thought.

"If I lend you a hand in searching for that ball of fire, will you leave this place quietly?" Sentry asked as he slithered around the group and moved his upper body downward to have a proper look at the demon.

"Hmnn, I can’t promise that, especially if they start the quarrel first," Zeno replied, nodding.

"That’s so nice of you; I didn’t expect to hear such an answer coming from an existence like you." Sentry chuckled and lifted his finger above.

"The number of santelmos dropped after locking up here, but that light you’re seeing right now is coming in one of them. However..." He paused and looked around the group of people before continuing his sentence.

"I know, you already noticed it, but levitating up with energy alone is quite impossible unless you have wings to make you rise into that ceiling," he said.

The mercenaries gazed into the atmosphere as soon as they heard the monster’s explanation, but they couldn’t find the source of light he was talking about.

’Where is it?’ They thought.

Meanwhile, Zeno took a second to glance at the horizon, and like the others, he could not locate where the creature was. However, a smile crept into his face, and he looked at the half-centipede, half-dragon monster in front of him.

"If I can’t move towards it, then I should make it come to me!" He exclaimed.

Then he raised his right arm as if grabbing something. The next second, under the sleeves of his coat, an obsidian shade of black letters appeared underneath Cyanide’s name, which was written in red.

’Ezreil,’ Zeno thought, and the countless particles of sand began to vibrate while the ceiling trembled.

"W-What is he doing?" The Ruby-class mercenary shouted as he almost fell on his knees.

"This is ridiculous," Heaire commented.

Even she couldn’t believe what she was seeing at the moment. Cracks started to appear on the horizon, and the stones fell one after the other. The shaking continued for a few more seconds until a sphere of fire burst from the cracks and hurled in the demon’s direction.

It appeared small, but the longer they stared at its red crown, it became bigger and fiercer from their perspective.

The ceiling lost its brightness in that exact moment, while the demon smiled as he examined the creature.

’This is...’ Sentry thought as he remembered something related to what the demon did, but he soon shook his head and erased the idea from his mind. Then he reminded the demon.

"Careful; its flames are hot," he said.

"I encountered way hotter flames than this," Zeno replied.

The next second, the santelmo shot flames towards the demon, trying to free itself from the unknown force binding its body.

"It’s quite aggressive," Zeno said as the flames dissipated before touching him.

Afterward, he grabbed the creature with his left hand and glanced at the duke looking at him.

"You’re the only one who can hold it down," Zeno declared, and he tossed the ball of fire towards Jez.

The duke caught it with both of his Legacy’s hands, locking the creature inside without any intention of letting it go.

"Should we head back now?" Royle asked.

Excitement was present on his face, realizing that they were just one step away from resurrecting Allesanah. However, Jez shook his head and looked behind them.

"Someone has arrived," he uttered.

Then an unusual type of energy filled the area. Tencent and the rest of the group stared at the figure emerging from the shadows of the void.

"He’s here," Heaire murmured, and she made a step backward.

"So, Sentry? You’re a traitor as well, like that useless snake," a hoarse voice reverberated in the whole area.

"Watch your tongue, Arguise," Sentry replied as soon as he heard the other monster’s allegation.

Then, the monster’s body came into light.

"A minotaur?" Royle uttered, but Heaire corrected him the next second.

"Not just any other minotaur; he is the first humanoid ox to ever live: our Third Commander," she said.

The mercenaries gulped upon hearing the woman’s introduction. Based on what they heard earlier, there were a total of twelve commanders, and the third strongest of them all was now in front of them.

"Arguise, if I were you, I would turn away and leave now that you still have a chance," Tencent yelled from afar.

However, what he got was a reply filled with mockery and laughter.

"Do you really think this Lord will lose? Do not compare this Lord’s capabilities with a poor one like yourself, Ninth Commander," the minotaur said, ignoring Tencent’s warning.

Afterward, he started to step forward and count the people in the area.

"One, two, three, four... Hmnn, even a psychopomp dared to betray us," Arguise imparted.

"She has nothing to do with this; we just ask for her help," Jez shouted, defending Heaire’s innocence.

"What a mentality! Listen, human, the moment she agrees to help you, she’s already your accomplice!" The monster exclaimed, and then his eyes directed to the silver-haired man fidgetting with a small black cube with his left hand.

"This Lord is not mistaken; there’s a demon who managed to infiltrate our place." Arguise paused and laughed before he continued speaking.

"How long has it been after this Lord killed a lot of demons? This Lord will rip this man apart and eat his innards," he added.

’Fool,’ Sentry and Tencent shared the same thought.

They were about to reply, but a huge bang echoed in that instance, and they saw the minotaur’s body slam at the ceiling, destroying some crystals in the process.

"I’m right, telekinesis," Jez uttered in silence while staring at the monster pinned above the area.

"I’m in a hurry; let’s do this fast," Zeno’s voice resounded, and he flicked his hand downward.

Then the minotaur’s body pummeled down the sand at an incredible speed.

"This little trick of yours reminds me of something," Arguise said upon standing up like nothing happened, and he swung the giant hammer he was holding into the group’s direction.

The sand rose in the air as a yellow shockwave traversed the path towards Zeno.

However, the sand formed a thick wall and protected everyone as soon as Sentry raised his hand. The shockwave was eaten by the sand and disappeared.

"Stop it, Arguise; we already came to an agreement that they would leave after this," he said, informing the other monster about his and the demon’s conversation earlier.

"Too late for your reminder, Sentry; this Lord already recognized that demon!" Arguise replied, and his laughter echoed in the place once more.

"Fighting a sovereign, just thinking about it, makes my blood boil, and my thirst for battle grows even further," he added.

The next second, Zeno stepped forward and spoke with a smile on his lips.

"I’m just a lowly general of a fallen demon king bastard, and my style of fighting changed in that certain course of time, but..." He paused and took off his coat, which revealed his well-toned muscles, then a jet-black scythe appeared on his hand.

"Just this once, to fulfill your delusions, let me show you the difference in strength between a sovereign and a mere fallen," he continued.

The next second, he walked towards the minotaur and partially opened his mouth to speak a word.

"Nahrin," he whispered, smiling.
