Chapter 124: New Ruler of Midgard City

"Y-Yes, Sir Rey."

"Right now, they’re surrounding Lady Milenia’s residence, which is protected by a high-level magic barrier."

Agares was furious, his face red, eyebrows furrowed sharply. His fists clenched tightly as a strong dark aura burst from his body, shocking both Nan and Aoi.

"I’ll kill them all!" Agares threatened, his eyes glowing with purple light from the dark energy.

Aoi swallowed hard. She had been with Agares since the first floor, but this was the first time she had seen him truly angry.

’What do I do to calm him down...?’ Aoi didn’t know how to help ease his mind or heart.

’Maybe the only way to stop his rage is to kill the Midgard Conquerors.\

Agares grabbed the teleportation token. Aoi immediately jumped onto his shoulder. In an instant, they left from the dungeon hallway and returned to the 55th floor—right back to Midgard City.

A burst of blue magic particles appeared in front of the teleportation crystal. Another guard turned and saw Nan arriving with Rey and Aoi.

He also wanted to know how Rey would deal with the current situation in Midgard City.

"Tell Goro to gather all native citizens of the city. Evacuate them to Agares’s residence."

"Agares’s residence?"

"Follow my orders—and don’t leave that house until nightfall if you want to live!" Rey commanded.

"Tell Merchant Lo to temporarily disable all teleportation tokens!" Rey ordered.

"We’ll get on it."

Nan and his friend went in different directions. Nan went to Goro’s tavern, and his friend went to alert the other native citizens. They had to follow Rey’s orders, even if they didn’t know what he was planning.

BLAST!

A loud explosion came from the west—right where Milenia’s residence was. Aoi grew more terrified, starting to sense the grim danger looming over the city. Agares heard the explosion and saw smoke rising high into the sky.

Milenia’s in danger!

Agares spread his black wings and flew swiftly from the crystal stone to Milenia’s residence. Aoi clung tightly to his armor so she wouldn’t fall.

What Nan said was true—the entire residence was covered in a glowing blue dome of protective magic. Several guards stood ready in the front yard, along with the maids.

They had all sworn to protect Milenia no matter what!

A striking contrast appeared between the front and the area surrounding Milenia’s house. Adventurers continued attacking the dome, hoping to break it down and get a chance to storm the residence.

Agares made a rough count—at least 150 adventurers of various classes had gathered and were attacking. He wasn’t about to let that slide.

"GET LOST!" Agares shouted.

He arrived with a boom of dark energy in the sky, flying with his terrifying black wings. His presence immediately drew all the adventurers’ attention.

They stopped attacking and looked up to see a man in a black shirt appear with a white fox on his shoulder.

"Who’s that?"

"That’s Rey! Milenia’s husband!"

"Tch! He’s alone—we outnumber him. We can take him!"

The cheers of the adventurers made them even more pumped. Now, their target shifted from Milenia’s residence to Agares himself.

One of the guards rushed inside and headed to the second floor, where Milenia lay weak from continuously maintaining the magic dome. Her body had grown thin, her face pale, and her voice hoarse.

"Lady Milenia!"

"Sir Rey has returned!" the guard said firmly.

Milenia sat up and smiled. Her swollen belly—nine months pregnant—showed that her baby would arrive soon.

Even so, Milenia hadn’t been able to focus on her pregnancy ever since the attacks started two months ago. She kept praying Agares would return to help her.

Her prayer was answered! Her husband was now in the sky—right above her.

Milenia raised her hand, opening a small gap in the barrier so Agares could enter. Seeing the opening, he swooped down and landed in the front yard.

Without greeting the guards or the maids, he rushed inside and walked to the second floor. There, he found Milenia lying weakly on the bed, accompanied by her two loyal maids. Her condition looked truly worrying.

"Aoi."

"I got it."

Aoi jumped off Agares’s shoulder and began healing Milenia. As her energy flowed back, Milenia’s body stopped looking thin and color returned to her face. Aoi did her best to protect Milenia and the baby she was carrying.

"Thank you for coming back," Milenia whispered.

Agares cleared his throat. He was deeply worried about Milenia too. It was his fault for leaving for six whole months—even though by his count, traveling from the 81st to the 85th floor only took six days.

Does one day there equal six months here? Agares had no idea.

His focus now was to protect Milenia and the city from destruction. It was time to drop his disguise.

"You rest. Let me take care of them."

Agares removed the earring from his ear, deactivating the disguise spell on his body. The appearance of Rey vanished, replaced fully by Agares.

"What are you doing?"

"It’s time to stop hiding. I’ll be this city’s ruler and protector!"

"I won’t let the native citizens die because of them!"

He walked out of the room. Milenia tried to stop him—but failed. Aoi tried to calm her, saying that Agares had gotten a lot stronger.

Milenia’s stomach cramped harder—a sign the baby was coming. She believed Agares could win, but the fear still lingered.

She didn’t want him to die before meeting their child.

Agares opened the front door. His figure appeared before everyone—guards and maids bowed in respect.

The adventurers looked ahead, squinting to get a better look at the familiar face of the man in the black shirt. One of them realized it.

"That face!"

Agares summoned his Shadepiercer sword into his hand, walked down the stairs, and stepped into the front yard.

"That black sword!"

Dark energy flowed visibly along his blade as he walked toward the front gate of Milenia’s home.

Back in the room, Milenia insisted on watching what Agares would do. The maids couldn’t stop her. They helped her sit on a single seat by the window.

From there, she could see everything.

"THAT’S AGARES!" the adventurers shouted.

"Wait—wasn’t he dead?!"

"If Agares is the man in the black shirt, then he really is Milenia’s husband!"

Agares’s black wings spread from his back, lifting him into the sky with his sword still in hand, pointed at the adventurers below.

"None of you are leaving here alive!" Agares threatened.

"Saber Skill: Eclipse Execution!"

Agares cloaked himself and his sword in dense dark energy. A projection of a red moon and a giant dark god appeared before the adventurers.

Their attacks stopped. Wide-eyed and pale, they stared in shock at the terrifying power of a living Saber-class monster.

Judging from the energy fluctuations Agares released, they could tell he had reached Noble Stage.

He pointed his sword—not to create a giant blade—but to manipulate the darkness into thousands of swords the same size as Shadepiercer. None of them had seen anything like it before.

"Kill them!"

Agares unleashed the thousands of blades from the sky, raining down over the area surrounding Milenia’s residence, targeting every adventurer who dared attack the woman he loved.

He showed no mercy.

WHOSH!

The black blades rained down. The adventurers tried to form magical barriers—but it was useless against Agares.

The clash between thousands of swords and their defense spells shook the city with magical shockwaves.

Nan and Goro had managed to evacuate the entire population. From Agares’s home, they saw the massive red moon and dark god projection over Milenia’s residence.

"Is that Sir Rey’s true power?"

Back at Milenia’s place, Agares launched the second phase of the saber skill.

He summoned the red moon projection and crushed it with his left hand. That caused the giant moon behind him to shatter and transform into thousands of meteors.

The adventurers stared in horror. They were already struggling with the sword rain—and now had to face a meteor storm.

Panic set in.

"I’m getting out of here!"

"Run! We can’t beat him!"

"This is insane!"

Agares grinned sharply, eyes locked on them. "Too late."

BLAST!

Their magic barriers shattered. Many adventurers were severely injured—or killed. Huge explosions rocked the area around Milenia’s house. Countless adventurers died.

But many still ran toward the teleportation crystal. They had to warn the Kingdom and Empire that Agares was alive.

"Why isn’t it working?!"

"The teleport tokens aren’t working! We’re trapped!"

Agares looked forward, seeing piles of mangled corpses—blood-stained streets and ruined buildings around Milenia’s residence.

He glanced to the side, seeing a group of adventurers fleeing toward the crystal. But he had already worked with Merchant Lo to disable all teleport tokens.

"Damn it! What do we do now?" some adventurers cried out.

"Hide! Maybe he won’t find us!"

Agares didn’t speak. He flew low, landing, and walked out of Milenia’s residence. He stepped through the blood-red streets, crushing adventurers’ body parts—hands, feet, guts, faces—beneath his boots.

He didn’t care about ethics.

He only had one purpose: kill them all.

"Saber Skill: Shadow Clone!"

The dark energy around Agares split off, creating a clone of himself wielding the same sword.

Luckily, Agares had already boosted his INT stat significantly. His clone should be more than capable of handling the rest.

"Are we capturing them?" the clone asked.

"No! Kill them and cut off their heads."

"I’ll turn them into a warning."
