Chapter 109: Boss Mini Dragon Flame
Chapter 109: Boss Mini Dragon Flame
Agares put the books back on their shelves. He had learned enough about what happened on the 80th floor and the truth about that adventurer.
In short, he couldn’t move up to the next floor not because he died on the 80th, but because the dungeon blocked him.
He couldn’t go on to the 81st floor because he didn’t have the Saber sigil on his hand.
Agares turned and saw Aoi still jumping happily on the bed. He called Aoi to return because they had to keep exploring the dungeon. Aoi obeyed and walked toward Agares.
"Did you find something from the book?" asked Aoi, curious.
"Yes, maybe some kind of clue."
"A clue to defeat the monster?"
"Haha, something like that."
They walked back down the dungeon hallway, leaving the room open with its broken door.
Looking at the smart navigation Agares activated, the actual boss room was in the hallway in the middle.
Just like Agares remembered before, the center hallway led to the mini boss room. He guessed he had to beat the mini boss to get to the main boss room.
That was fine. Agares wasn’t scared. He had beaten a lot of monsters and floor bosses lately, so a mini boss wasn’t really a big threat to him.
Agares turned when he reached the intersection and walked with Aoi by his side. Aoi asked now and then about the hallway and the direction to the floor boss. Agares explained they were going the right way.
"The hallway on the left looks like it leads to treasure. That’s because that room doesn’t go straight to the floor boss."
"Treasure? But didn’t we take it already?" asked Aoi.
"The treasure is equal to the dropped items from the mini boss and the main boss. So, I think we don’t need to go for it."
Aoi cleared her throat. She didn’t know anything about quality or dropped items, but she would be happy if Agares gave her a valuable item. Aoi always looked forward to that.
From far away, red light was visible at the end of the hallway, along with hot air blowing toward them.
Agares pulled his sword from his inventory. He walked carefully and let Aoi sit on his shoulder.
Coming out of the hallway, Agares looked surprised to see the mini boss room ahead looked like a volcano crater. It was a unique sight and rare to see during his time in the dungeon.
The smell of sulfur clearly hit their noses, making it hard to breathe. Aoi loudly said she didn’t like the smell. Agares agreed, and both of them instinctively covered their noses.
Agares walked slowly toward the rocks near the edge of the crater. Inside the crater, he saw a dragon sleeping, surrounded by lava.
Its thick scales protected it from the high temperatures of the lava.
’A dragon?’ thought Agares.
"What should we do?" asked Aoi. Agares stayed silent, still watching below.
He raised his head and looked forward clearly. Yes! The hallway to the floor boss room was still blocked by a big door. The only way to open it was to kill the mini boss.
"We have to kill it."
Agares swallowed hard. He had killed dozens of floor bosses and mini bosses, but for some reason, standing in front of that red dragon made his skin crawl in fear, like there was something heavy pressing on his body.
Still, he had to be ready for anything. With his power right now, he believed he could beat that mini boss easily without giving up too much of his HP.
He channeled his dark energy into his sword blade, making a dark aura appear and spread strongly from his body. The man’s eyes also glowed bright purple.
"Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave!"
Agares made the first strike at the dragon with his first skill. The shadow slash flew quickly forward and hit the dragon’s body. That woke the red dragon from its sleep, and it let out a loud roar in pain.
The monster raised its head and saw a human had come to challenge it again. It roared loudly at Agares, making both him and Aoi cover their ears from the noise.
Even so, Agares clearly saw the total HP panel pop up in the top right of his vision. The damage dealt was pretty big.
[+850 dmg]
[Weakened for 10 seconds]
[Reduce ATK by 30% every 12 seconds]
[Reduce 10 HP/sec for 7s]
The dragon answered by breathing fire toward Agares. Realizing the danger, Agares ran around the crater, trying to dodge the dragon’s fire breath.
"What’s our plan?" asked Aoi.
"There’s no way we can win if we just keep using our first skill."
"We have to beat it using our ultimate skill."
"Alright."
Agares kept running while waiting for the right moment to use the skill. He believed the fire breath had to stop eventually, but he didn’t know when.
After ten minutes passed, Agares saw the red dragon stop attacking and focus on resting. That was the moment for Agares to release his ultimate skill.
"Saber Skill: Eclipse Execution!"
That power made Agares float in the sky. His right hand still held Shadepiercer, and his whole body was now covered in his dark aura armor.
A red moon projection appeared, followed by the projection of a bat-winged god of darkness behind it. The red dragon raised its head and stared at Agares with pure hatred.
Agares aimed his sword directly at the red dragon. A giant purple sword formed from the energy of the red moon and the dark god, shaped like a huge Shadepiercer, floating in front of Agares.
Once it was fully formed, Agares moved his sword in a stabbing motion. The giant purple Shadepiercer shot down from the sky toward the red dragon.
The red dragon didn’t want to lose. It blasted all its fire upward, trying to stop the giant purple sword coming at it.
But the longer it went on, the more unstoppable the sword became.
STAB!
The purple sword stabbed into the five-meter-tall red dragon’s scaled body. The dragon kept growling in pain, shooting fire all over the place.
Agares wasn’t done with his saber skill. He lifted his left hand and summoned a red moon projection above his palm.
With one tight grip, the red moon broke apart and dropped thousands of meteors from the sky, targeting the red dragon stabbed by the huge purple sword.
"Break!"
BLAST!
Explosions hit the red dragon over and over after the meteors rained down on it. Agares watched the moment—it was clear the attack had a strong effect on the dragon, even if it wasn’t enough to kill it yet.
[+2450 dmg]
[Dark Mark Activated]
[Doom Activated]
A purple dark mark appeared on the red dragon’s forehead, a sign that its DEF had been debuffed and dark element attacks would now be very effective.
"Saber Skill: Shadow Cleave!"
Agares swung Shadepiercer vertically and horizontally, sending a cross-shaped shadow slash down at the dragon.
The attack looked small in front of the five-meter dragon, but the damage from it was much higher than usual thanks to the dark mark’s effect.
BLAST!
Another explosion happened, purple smoke rising into the air. The damage and buff panel appeared to respond to the attack.
Agares expected it. The Shadow Cleave hit harder than normal.
[+1305 dmg] [Critical ATK]
[Weakened for 10 seconds]
[Reduce ATK by 30% every 12 seconds]
[Reduce 10 HP/sec for 7s]
Agares landed beside the round crater. He looked at the panel and matched it with the red dragon’s total HP panel.
Out of its 5000 total HP, only around 395 was left. Even so, the amount of Mana Agares had been used was also a lot.
"Your turn, Aoi."
Aoi cleared her throat. She swung both her claws in an X shape toward the red dragon. Red fire claws shot out from Agares’s direction and hit the dragon’s body.
She didn’t do it to kill the red dragon, but to leave some damage so Aoi would get EXP when Agares finished it off.
But victory was already certain. That’s because the doom effect was about to trigger.
BLAST!
The second explosion happened after 10 seconds, blasting inside the red dragon’s body and dealing massive damage—50% of the ultimate skill’s total damage.
[+1225 dmg]
[Doom Triggered]
Agares looked to the upper side of his vision and saw the red dragon’s HP panel was gone—a sign they had killed it.
He fell to his knees, breathing heavily. The impact from the fight had exhausted Agares—he hadn’t recovered his Mana yet.
But luckily, he had defeated the red dragon and opened the path to the boss room of the 80th floor.
Agares turned and saw the hallway door to that room open, after the dungeon confirmed the mini boss’s death.
"Thank goodness."
