The Cold-hearted CEO's Unwanted Bride -
Chapter 354: Less Nonsense
Chapter 354: Chapter 354: Less Nonsense
Bo Yunshen sharply sucked in a breath of cold air.
His brows twitched uncontrollably as he suppressed the nearly irrepressible cry of pain.
"It’s going to hurt a bit, just bear with it."
Bo Yunshen let out a cold snort.
Did he need Qin Yan to state the obvious?
"Cut the nonsense."
Qin Yan fell silent. The pain in Bo Yunshen’s back was overwhelming, completely occupying his senses—a burning sensation pricking his skin, forcing beads of cold sweat to surface on his forehead.
The pain was intense, a kind of agony that couldn’t be ignored.
Bo Yunshen shut his eyes tightly.
A small, warm hand pressed against his forehead, gently wiping the sweat away.
Bo Yunshen opened his lashes and was met with the clear black-and-white gaze of Qin Yinyin’s big, innocent eyes.
"What are you doing?"
Cautiously, Qin Yinyin continued wiping his sweat. "Daddy, thank goodness your face wasn’t injured. Otherwise, you’d be ugly on the outside too."
Bo Yunshen was momentarily choked.
What did it matter if a man was ugly?
He wasn’t some delicate maiden waiting to be wed. Why would good looks even matter?
"Go away!"
Yet Qin Yinyin completely ignored his words. "Daddy, does it hurt?"
Bo Yunshen: "...What do you think?"
Though his tone sounded no different than usual, upon closer listening, there was a subtle vulnerability underlying it, soft and unsteady.
"Daddy, I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have pinched you earlier today!"
Bo Yunshen gave Qin Yinyin a long, deep look.
What’s the use of apologizing now?
What, was she going to let him pinch her back?
As Bo Yunshen tilted his head to the side, Qin Yinyin immediately grabbed his face, her little face leaning in close, pressing her forehead tightly against his.
"Daddy, don’t be mad at me."
Bo Yunshen felt a headache coming on. Instinctively, he reached out to steady Qin Yinyin’s teetering body, his eyes flashing with evident disdain. "Move away!"
"You’re all sweaty. Go away!"
"No!"
Qin Yinyin clung tightly around his neck, snuggling into his arms.
Her small body was soft, making it impossible for Bo Yunshen to push her away, his expression becoming increasingly sour.
"Daddy, next time when you’re outside, can you give Mommy a little face, okay?"
So this was Qin Yan’s handiwork?
Too proud to negotiate with him directly, so she sent their daughter to plead on her behalf?
Did Qin Yan overestimate Qin Yinyin?
Did she really think he’d agree to every demand Qin Yinyin made?
What, was he about to spoil her to the heavens?
Giving Qin Yan some face outside—was that actually "giving face" to Qin Yan in front of Manman?
Bo Yunshen closed his eyes, neither agreeing nor refusing.
"Daddy, promise Yinyin. I’ll always listen to you from now on."
Bo Yunshen felt a flicker of hesitation.
"Yinyin, Daddy is injured. Don’t stay so close to me—you might catch it!"
Bo Yunshen’s mouth twitched.
Burns could be contagious now?
Did Qin Yan think he was some kind of virus?
If she despised him so much, why was she even tending to his wounds?
Wasn’t it her, Qin Yan, who had been the one to approach him shamelessly?
At that thought, he instinctively pulled Qin Yinyin into his arms, holding her closer.
For a moment, Qin Yan froze. "Yunshen, the medicine for your back is applied. Let go of Yinyin, and I’ll take care of the wounds on the front."
Bo Yunshen didn’t let go, the corners of his lips curling faintly into a mocking smile. His words oozed with sarcasm, "I haven’t infected Director Qin’s daughter yet!"
In Qin Yan’s misty gaze, a hint of sly amusement flickered. "It was just to scare Yinyin. Yunshen, did you take it seriously?"
"I only said that to prevent her from hurting your wounds."
Bo Yunshen, still holding Qin Yinyin, was now caught between letting go and holding on tighter.
The emotions in his heart were hard to put into words.
Was that it?
Impossible. Qin Yan never acted with such pure intentions!
What was she trying to express?
Was it concern for him, or worry about his pain? Would her next line be a declaration of love—that she loved him to death and couldn’t live without him?
Or was she here just to swindle money?
Or perhaps something loftier—to steal his heart?
"Don’t hold Yinyin anymore. Let go."
Bo Yunshen retorted sarcastically, "If not Yinyin, then should I hold Director Qin?"
"Sorry, I’m injured and can’t lift a pig!"
Qin Yan: "..."
She pressed her lips together, the atmosphere turning inexplicably stiff.
It was Qin Yinyin who eventually climbed out of Bo Yunshen’s arms on her own. Magnanimously, she patted his shoulder and said, "Daddy, once you’re all healed, you can hold me again!"
"Then, we’ll go on a roller coaster together."
The rest of the wound care went smoothly as Qin Yinyin successfully distracted Bo Yunshen. Qin Yan knelt on the hospital bed, carefully and gently applying ointment to his wounds.
Since the injury was near his lower abdomen, Qin Yan bent low as she worked, causing Bo Yunshen, without meaning to, to focus on her face. Smooth and fair like jade, her lashes distinct and long, casting little fans of shadow across her cheeks.
The burning pain around his waist and abdomen gradually subsided. He could almost feel Qin Yan’s soft breaths brushing against his skin.
Even with the air conditioning on, Bo Yunshen felt a wave of heat rising within him.
He grabbed Qin Yan by the waist, lifting her off the bed, and tossed her onto the soft mattress behind him.
Caught off guard, Qin Yan felt momentarily dizzy. "Yunshen?"
Bo Yunshen took the ointment from her hands. "I’ll do it myself. I’m hungry. Prepare dinner for me."
Qin Yan agreed softly.
She reached up to smooth her tousled hair.
Crawling to the edge of the bed behind him, the two of them only inches apart, she asked gently, "Yunshen, what do you feel like eating?"
Bo Yunshen gave her a sideways glance. "I feel like eating spicy fish head."
Qin Yan: "..."
She put on her shoes, casting a glance toward the SVIP hospital room equipped with a private kitchenette. She licked her lips slightly and said softly, "You and Yinyin stay here. I’ll go to the supermarket to pick up ingredients. Tonight, I’ll cook in the room, okay?"
Cooking personally?
Qin Yan sure didn’t miss a single chance to score points with him!
Bo Yunshen looked at her with a faint smile, then nodded.
Qin Yan reminded Qin Yinyin not to disturb Bo Yunshen before leaving the hospital.
Bo Yunshen sneered to himself, not buying into Qin Yan’s act one bit.
When Qin Yan returned over half an hour later, she carried a dessert in her hands. "Eat this to fill your stomach a bit. I’ll start cooking."
Bo Yunshen didn’t like sweets.
Opening the packaging, he scoffed under his breath.
That dessert was clearly bought for her daughter, wasn’t it? Yet she gave it to him under the guise of "filling his stomach"?
Hypocritical!
Bo Yunshen directly pushed the dessert in front of Qin Yinyin. "It’s for you!"
Qin Yinyin refused. "Daddy, Mommy doesn’t let me eat sweets. She says it’ll cause cavities!"
"Daddy, are you afraid of cavities too?"
What nonsense!
What did Qin Yan mean by this?
Did she actually buy it for him?
Bo Yunshen took a deep breath and leaned back onto the bed, the corner of his lips twitching slightly.
When Bo Yunshen said he was hungry, he wasn’t joking.
At lunch, he hadn’t eaten much.
Though he was on an IV drip, it wasn’t particularly effective. His wounds hurt terribly, and in the summer heat, he had almost no appetite.
