Hearing these words, tears welled up in Cheng Bingbing’s eyes.

For the first time in her life, someone had said these words to her.

All her life, people had been telling her that since her parents had raised her, she had to repay their kindness as an adult and not disobey them.

But today, Huo Qilin told her that her life belonged to her.

Seeing her naïve trust in him, Huo Qilin had a sudden urge to tease her.

"It’s not that. I’m not afraid. I’m just confused why you would bring me home." Cheng Bingbing took the water but didn’t drink it.

Seeing her situation, Huo Qilin mistakenly thought she couldn’t open the bottle. So, he took the bottle from her, opened it, and was just about to hand it back when it dawned upon him.

Thinking about this, he slapped his forehead in annoyance. "Look at me, I’m such a numbskull. I forgot you’re pregnant and shouldn’t drink cold water."

"Please wait here, I’ll get you some warm water."

Cheng Bingbing was a bit embarrassed. "It’s not necessary, I’m not thirsty."

Huo Qilin seemed not to hear her.

He fetched a cup of hot water for Cheng Bingbing. Worried it would be tasteless, he remembered he had some red dates at home and soaked a few in it before handing it to Cheng Bingbing.

Furthermore, they are your biological parents so you couldn’t possibly fight back."

"I’m not afraid!" Cheng Bingbing said resolutely.

There are certain things one can’t keep avoiding. So she decided to face them head-on.

"You may not be afraid, but now you’re not alone." Huo Qilin reminded her with exasperation. "You can’t even drink cold water out of concern for your unborn child. Won’t you be afraid that your parents could harm your kid?"

His words made Cheng Bingbing pale as she instinctively touched her stomach.
