Chapter 339: Desolate Labyrinth (1)
Clammy just arrived and when it saw the three pals who always talks behind its back, it went to greet them before asking about the nymphs since the corpse of their precious ruler was still in his care. "Hey, where are the nymphs?"
"They went ahead of us." Not long after Mantou answered, all of them heard the shouts.
"Champion!"
"Sister Baozi! Sister Baozi!"
Hearing the shouts, Chunhua abruptly whirled her head towards the sources of the familiar voices and saw Shivani’s group walking briskly towards her.
Clammy also spotted the blue-skinned violent sisterhood of the sea and waited for them to get closer.
Grandpa Trident also gazed ahead at the direction from which the shouts were coming from and saw the nymphs. He wore another double set of shock emojis. "Is this real? Didn’t they perish a thousand years ago?"
The death of his entire race and him being the sole survivor was still fresh in his memories as if it was just yesterday. How can water nymphs appear in this place?
"We’re glad we’ve found you, Sister Baozi. Do you happen to know who did this to our city?" Shillo was the first one to arrive and asked Chunhua using an angry tone.
The bangle: Uh...oh...
Shivani and the others caught up and asked the same set of questions and made a stance ready for an all-out brawl with the culprit. "Yes, tell us Champion."
Chunhua: (⊙︿⊙ ✿) If I tell the truth, we are still friends right?
The bangle: Fat chance but what are you anxious for? With a thick skin like yours, you should be worried more about their hands being crippled.
Chunhua didn’t know how to feel whether she should be insulted or happy.
Anyways, she decided to divert their attention, "Thank goodness you’re here. I found your King in the Armory. Clammy show them."
"Yes Boss." Clammy opened his shells and the nymphs including Grandpa Trident saw something lying on the clam’s bed.
Even they already accepted the death of their King a long time ago, Shivani and the other nymphs still couldn’t contain their emotions and wept bitterly.
Grandpa Trident saw the Oceanid’s body, which was the evolution path of the Nymphs and once again wondered what happened while he was sealed.
-----
"We split into multiple ships and sailed into separate directions. The last time I saw the unconscious palace secretary and the rest of the assembly were heading towards energy crystal mine. I know nothing else...please spare me."
"How many forces are there?" Haoran deepened the blade on the halfling’s neck.
The halfling quickly said for fear the man would slit his neck, "At least 200 armed hafling guards that shifted side with them, a dozen of fire cannon blasters, and explosives stored in the lower decks. They took most of the weapons with them."
Haoran maintained eye contact and observed the halfling’s expression. "Did you hear why they are going that way?"
"Not...not...I didn’t hear anything. They were tightlipped and fired at anyone who wanted to join the ships. Sir, can you please spare me? I will never do this again. I was just driven by..." The Halfling couldn’t finish his words as his breath went erratic, gasping and his eyes went wide before dropping to his side, where he laid there unmoving.
Haoran just stood there and waited for a few seconds to lapse making sure it wasn’t a scheme before checking the halfling.
No pulse, no heartbeat but his skin was hot to a degree it was scalding.
He checked the other 10 and found out they were no longer unconscious but were actually dead. Their temperature made him thought they were only sleeping.
Haoran recalled item description of the Orb of Requiem he obtained from that Lich Spearman.
Luckily, his INT stat was greater than the recent decease and he saw a white cloudy sphere coming out of the body of the halfling and being sucked inside the orb.
Afterwards, the orb turned darker than the night and images flashed on the surface. At first, Haoran still didn’t know about the images being shown until he saw halflings dressed cleanly and donning on finer quality shiny leather surrounded by other armed halflings and boarding the steam ships.
He watched the clips until the images disappeared when five minutes passed.
Unable to obtain more information, Haoran stood up.
He looked at the orb. For some reason, the memories of his battle with the lich spearman replayed in his head. That guy wanted him dead.
Does he want to extract his soul to feed this?
But he’s but an unimportant individual and holds no value for that lich. What kind of information does it want?
Haoran stored the Orb of Requiem back and went to find Xiao Hua.
----
The steam ships carrying the high halfling officials only just reached the port of the Island where the mine is located and hurriedly disembark after the quarter of the passengers were infected by thermic fever.
Inside one of the rooms built in the Underground Labyrinth, the eccentric Halfling crouched over his table sensed movements above the ground.
His hand was holding an intermediate energy crystal which he wanted to bring with him for research purposes. After all this while, he still couldn’t determine what sort of energy is stored in the stones.
He turned his head towards the sleeping Nikolai on the cage. He fetched his staff and quickly went out and took a tunnel path of which plenty of golden energy crystals were embedded. There were like stars studding the night and providing light for his path.
----
Haoran saw Xiao Hua with her familiar and summons standing behind the kneeling nymphs. Haoran approached her quietly and whispered in her ears, "I need to go the energy crystal mine. Stay put."
"What a coincidence. I also need to go there. Do you know where it is, Chef Long?" Chunhua was surprised. If Chef Long knows then she didn’t have to ask Shivani.
Haoran answered, "I’ve been there before." It was the island where they landed and fought with the golems and the place of the Desolate Labyrinth. "But why do you want to go there?"
"I need more energy crystals to make something." Chunhua answered.
"What ’something’?" Haoran’s eyes lowered on the collar of her azure robe. It creased and ruffled.
"A Sealing..." Chunhua stopped talking when she felt something moved on her chest.
"Chirp Chirp." Little Noodle yawned.
"Anyway, Chef Long I’m going with you. Don’t tell me to stay put." Chunhua stubbornly said.
Haoran couldn’t utter a word of scolding towards her stubborn words and only replied, "Okay."
Twenty minutes later, Chunhua, Haoran, the four foodie squad eating their meals, and Grandpa Trident were sitting inside Clammy.
After bidding the nymphs goodbye, they headed towards the island of the crystal mine.
"Hey brat, I’ll pass the trident’s ownership to you if you successfully make the seal." Grandpa Trident said while looking at the nymphs carrying the Oceanid’s body to the ship. He hoped this time, his people will be saved.
