Chapter 316: The Strange Halfling
Chapter 316: The Strange Halfling
[Halfling City]
Nikolai had been hit by fatigue after using the blood puppetry skill leading to a mana overdraft and decided looked for a place to recuperate first, missing witnessing the whole epic battle.
By the time he regained ample mana, he flew around and saw the Halfling city was already in ruins.
Nikolai’s mind was in a mess: "..." What just happened? Is this a new map?
He flew at a higher altitude and managed to see the Halflings were fleeing using the ships after looting some of the things from the destroyed buildings.
He looked around trying to find his fake daughter and couldn’t find her silhouette at all but instead saw a sneaky little shortie dressed in those eccentric black robes with a long trail behind coming out of one of the buildings. On his hand was a magic staff.
The little shortie seemed to sense his presence even from such a great distance and turned around.
This is bad.
Before he hadn’t felt any danger, but now his sense are tingling, warning him.
Before Nikolai could even escape, his wings were caught by fire chain and dropped on the ground.
Being a Royal Bloodling, he still possessed some immunity to fire magic unless it was a light attribute spell, so this spell didn’t do much damage to his body but his mobility was deprived.
The required native’s stat adjustment brought all his stats to starting line.
"I didn’t expect to see a creature like this here." A voice tinged with intrigue came out of nowhere.
Nikolai lifted his head in difficulty and finally saw the face of the perpetuator.
For some reason, the Halfling was very familiar. It’s like he had seen him somewhere before but it was not in this world and definitely somewhere else.

[Peony Pavilion]
Not being able to send his brother any messages brought Zurui a lot of worries and it was only suppressed by the bead bracelet that was emitting faintly emitting a glowing light and not dimming, indicating that his brother was not in any danger.
But despite this assurance, Zurui was stirring and turning on his bed and couldn’t closed his eyes at all and the howling of the monsters treading through the gaps of the wooden planks of his room didn’t help, prompting to get out of the main residence and find some company to pass the night.
Thanks to his overly competent residents the materials and copper coins needed for the upgrade of the basic farm, basic smithy, defense wall, basic residence to Level 2, and the new building-basic quarry have been completed.
Now the Peony Pavilion could be said to be a half-baked flourishing village.
The only thing he needs to do was gather 29 more residents to upgrade into level 3. But so far, he encountered no refugees unlike the other players in the global chat.
He saw his 10 of his residents sitting by the bonfire, boisterously talking and laughing while chugging on the bamboo cups and biting on the roasted meat. The rest should be tucked in their beds or sprawled over the floor of their houses, hugging each other to sleep.
"You boy Harald, I didn’t think you would be a romanticist, risking your life to marry someone!" The men slapped Harald’s back out of amazement before asking, "Is she pretty then?"
Harald became a little embarrassed and scratched his head before admitting, "Yes, she is prettiest flower in the tribe. She can lift heavier things than me and has more muscles than me!"
The first sentence had the men interested but the second made them choke on their drinks.
What the...
When these guys saw Zurui approaching the bonfire near the entrance, they looked at his direction and asked him.
"Master, it is so late at night. Why don’t you go to sleep and leave the guarding to us?" The big guys said. Their faces were flushed under the light of bonfire.
And the faint scent of alcohol drifted to his nose. If he remembers it correctly, he had no wine in the cellar, how did these guys manage to get ahold of one.
"I can’t sleep." Zurui replied, before squeezing in between the blacksmith and Harald. Instantly, he saw the row of bamboo cups, a barrel that emitted the disturbing scent.
One whiff and he felt getting drunk. That is a strong one. Zurui thought before he pinched his nose. "What are you talking about just now?"
"It’s about Harald’s beloved."
Accustomed to playing games, Zurui sometimes mistaken them for NPCs, when in fact also have their own stories not merely inputs of data.
Through the talk, he was able to find out that Harald actually joined the game because the Chief of their tribe will promise his daughter’s hand in marriage if the territory he joins emerges victorious.
What a champ. Zurui’s impression of the Viking rose several levels.
His blacksmith also came to join to upgrade his profession because the forging materials in the Game Planet were rich.
The rest were either a brother, an uncle, a son or an orphan, and joined the gamer for various reasons but the most common thing Zurui noticed that the reasons were interconnected to one a purpose resources.
He learned a lot and his curiosity for the world outside this planet soared.
But the most pitiful story belonged to Gunnar, another Viking but lives in a different planet from Harald and has some mixed genes of a tauren resulting in his build bulkier and height taller than the rest surpassing the orc he summoned. He looks like the big brother of the group.
When it was Gunnar’s turn to tell, his expression didn’t look right and judging and he only shared that his tribe had some experienced some unfortunate events leading some of their members to participate here.
The atmosphere turned a little gloomier after Gunnar finished.
Out of due respect, the rest didn’t ask further and so was Zurui.
"Now, now, don’t dwell on it. Now, where in this new place, we are brother in arms and you can lean on others from now on to share the burdens in your heart." The Orc named Boar placed his arms over Gunnar’s shoulder before laughing out loud easing the tension in the air.
The others also make attempts to make Gunnar’s mood better.
Gunnar sighed before taking another cup, reddening his face into beet red but his expression visibly improved.
After everyone was done, it was now time for the main event. These guys sharply turned their eyes on their Master who had been silent all along.
Long Zurui stiffened.
